[33g] Long creature names get cut off
« on: January 01, 2008, 06:27:00 am »

The full names of creatures with very long names get cut off by the edge of the display, rather than wrapping around or somesuch.

As many dwarves as that Bronze Colossus killed, I kinda wanted to know what epithets they gave it.

Consulting the human language raw gives this:

luthi : shell
ices : glisten
ņerib : cheerful
isel : scarce
puja : bend
bekor : twilight
ung : void

As you journey to the center of the world, feel free to read the death announcements of those dwarves that suffer your neglect.

One billion b-balls dribbling simultaneously throughout the galaxy. One trillion b-balls being slam dunked through a hoop throughout the cosmos. I can feel every single b-ball that has ever existed at my fingertips, I can feel their collective knowledge channeling through my veins. Every jumpshot, every rebound and three-pointer, every layup, dunk and free throw.

Thanks for that.  So, creatures that are not dwarf, goblin, elf, or human default to having human names?

I wouldn't bet money on it.  I know that world-names can be taken from any of the four languages.  I suspect that megabeast names can as well.

If the dwarves had named it, I think it would be in dwarvish.  But megabeasts have their own names.

I think the sort of weird thing is that if the megabeast has an original two part name in, say, the human language, then after it kills a bunch of your dwarves, the extended name will be in human as well.  With the deities I'm working on, I'm going to fiddle with having entity-based names, so that the dwarves could give it a different name or part of a name instead of having to work with the original.
