I have definitely not seen any of that. Sure, people get annoyed at loosing a game, but none of the raging common in online games that I've seen. Everybody I've talked to has been super nice. Heck, I used to start every game by saying I was a newbie, and would ask questions all the time. That's how I got to learn how to play.

My experience has been mostly using TeamSpeak on the server provided by the devs. It makes the experience totally different, and the game so much easier to learn. Sometimes certain players will sort of take command of the team and delineate a strategy. If there's a newbie, they'll also point out why you should do X or Y, or help you outfit your ship for a given strategy.

My personal experience with the community has been pretty good, and I'm used to playing games with fairly mature online communities (average age 30/40+).

Unfortunately, the devs removed the F2P component... that was a lame move, but I don't think they'd be able to support a F2P game. The servers are struggling as it is!

P.S: I got a bis disillusioned with TaleWorlds... the games totally failed to reach their full potential, and they've been putting out rehashes over and over. I'm sort of "meh" about it now. I keep waiting for more Starfarer though :)

Thanks for the reply, missed it earlier. I'll add it to my "watching" list, maybe they'll have a free weekend or something of that nature later on. I did visit the forums, seems like 2v2 is the most frequent game type? I like larger fights (6v6 looked fun), but still, worth keeping an eye on. It does seem interesting!

I think TaleWorlds will have to step up a bit with M&B2. The War of the Roses game (Paradox title) looks like it will be competition of sorts. Same sort of setting, just far better graphics and probably a lot less depth. Still, competition of a kind, and I'll never be upset at seeing more games of that nature.

The problem with 2v2 games is just that the matchmaking system has a preference for 2v2 games, and the "lobby" system where you see all games that you can join is hidden in a menu. I think I've only played one 2v2 game, and I don't really enjoy it.

I hope there will be a free weekend. The release really hurt the game because of all the lag problems. They need a free SOMETHING to make people interested again.

So I picked this up on the steam sale with all the DLC. Anyone still play that wants to train up a newb? Any newb mistakes to avoid?

Haven't played in a few months, but the game is nice :) My main suggestion is to get on TeamSpeak. They have a server, and it makes a huge difference :)

First off: Sorry for the thread necromancy!

Anyways, Green Man Gaming is currently in the middle of a summer sale, and one of their promotions is giving Stellar Impact away for free! http://www.greenmangaming.com/s/ca/en/pc/games/strategy/stellar-impact/

I imagine you'll need a GMG account, but I believe it will register on Steam.

It's an alright game which is mainly undone by it's tiny community, but perhaps if enough people got the free offering it could be a much better experience!

I really like the game, and I love the permanent improvement. Besides the usual in-round upgrades you get, you also get items that are global. Kind of like having a meta-inventory management thing going on.

Rounds do take a little longer than other MOBAs, especially after getting used to Awesomenauts' 30m rounds.

Still, wicked game, and there's a TS server as well. They should just make the base game free, and then let people buy the extra ships or skins or something. I'm sure it'd do a lot better, but I don't think their server can handle too much traffic, which is a pity.

Ahh, sorry, guess I wasn't fast enough in finding/posting! :(

Yeah, with the prevalence of f2p games MOBAs especially, it's hard to entice new players to come in and try this game. Getting a F2P model would increase the playerbase and longevity of the game quite a bit in my opinion. But I genuinely enjoyed the setting and mechanics even if I was pretty horrible at the game itself.
