((You are right! I have been lax in my duty and the thread is crumbling! By Celestia/Luna/Armok/Slepnir/Epona/(Insert Horse Related Deity Here) I must write once more! Charge!))
Flashbang's Thoughts, Actions, and Words, Definitely Not in Any Diary Anywhere (Probably)
Ponies came and went, passing by me in the darkened halls. I had slipped away from the hallway outside Sepsi's throne room, my thoughts cloudy and my spirit weak. Nopony noticed my passing, my blackened coat and stealthy tread hiding me from view. Not that anypony would have cared, none of them would have even given me a second glance. Mobius had been the only one to care enough to plan to my murder, and Solstice ... well he was gone now. There was no doubt in my mind of that. He had been summoned before our leader in relation to the crime of treason, and nopony I knew had ever come back from that.
Each second felt like an hour, and every step felt as if leaden weights had been strapped to my hooves. My body was on autopilot, and I barely noticed when I reached my destination. It was a door, no different from any other, but still so very special. I stretched out my wings and flapped up to a small niche opposite the door and right below the ceiling. It was barely visible from the ground, but it had more than enough room to hold a fully grown pegasus. I remembered how happy I had been when I'd found it, the perfect hiding spot in the perfect place. I'd spent hours hiding within it, watching ponies pass by and more specifically watching for one pony in particular. In the mornings I'd waited patiently for him to open the door, cherishing every sleepy yawn and tangle in his ruffled mane. Every night I'd observe his often late return and keep watch for any potential attackers. Now I watched nothing at all, staring at the door and paralyzed by the knowledge that he wasn't coming back. Never coming back.
The sound of approaching hooves broke the spell, snapping me back to the present and ready to deal with any intruders. They may have killed him, but I wasn't about to let them loot his belongings. Lack of sleep and plenty of tears blurred my normally excellent night vision, but I could see that the trespasser was a male unicorn. A miner's pick bulged from his satchel, but I doubted he'd have time to use it as a weapon. My wings flared in the darkness, readied to launch me straight at the enemy. I imagined the kill, the expression of horror and disbelief that would grace his features as I tore his throat out. I would have to flee the fortress, there was no doubt of that. Maybe I would be able to survive in the wilderness, maybe not, but in reality it was unlikely I would even make it that far. These ponies may be weak, but brought together by fear and panic there was no doubt they could overpower me. I would likely die, but if I could avenge Solstice in the process then that was the price I would pay.
The poor fool that dared to disturb Solstice's former dwelling had almost reached the door. My sharpened teeth were bared in a vicious grin. I may not be able to suck blood from my victims like a true darkbolt, but I could definitely spill it. That unicorn was as good as dead. At least he was until a golden glow enveloped the door handle. The light illuminated his features, and despite my disbelief I recognized him immediately. It was Solstice. Solstice was still alive.
