... make some really good tasting food by mincing certain ingredients and throwing it in a baking dish in the oven. (Along the lines of meatloaf, not some strange tallow+mushroom+meat+syrup paste)

... start collecting rocks & minerals that are present in DF.

... start randomly quizzing all my friends on constituents of common metal alloys & names of metal ores.

... eat more mushrooms - which was hard to achieve considering my prior interest in mycology and the food production thereof.

... simply making stuff instead of buying it... made my own pocket knife last year, and have a few mushroom-growing domes in my basement.

DF has inspired me to look up metal alloys and what is taken to create them. And their actual use.

And to enjoy architecture.

And to question how things work.

You do not understand the ways of Toady One. He is not a business, he's just a guy trying to make a fun game. He's invited people to come along and experience the journey with him (and help him test it out as he goes along). At the end of the day, I don't think his main goal is to sell Dwarf Fortress, its just to create the best game possible.

Look into Dwarfs as a Warhammer army
Humorously suggest magma as a solution to awkward social situations
Play Nethack in Ascii rather than with the windows tileset

Feel empathy toward goblins, who i previously viewed as soulless bags of flesh, useful for nothing more than fantasy cannon fodder.

Brew my own beer (well I used to do that before playing DF but now I brew stronger, darker ales)

I'd expect you to NOT question how things work after dwarf fortress...

It has inspired me to mine out and form an underground community. As of yet I've had no luck finding a suitable location, however.

I recommend Scandinavia.  Only a thin soil layer and lots of shallow metal.  Lots of trees for beds.  There's also bears, wolves, lynxes, wolverines, and moose for pets.  The only downside is an above-average density of uninvited guests...

DF has inspired me to... approach problems with a slightly different look, achieving often a much more efficient solution.

It's also inspired me to be self sufficient. I'm not there yet but I have a largish vegetable garden with strawberries, lettuce and silverbeet, and bok choi. I've started purchasing animal products from local farms rather than the supermarket as the quality, price and customer service is much better and I just feel healthier.

DF's reliance on farming got me interested in farms again, so hence i've started growing food and buying from farms. I've also started eating Quinoa for breakfast- 20% protein by weight makes me feel so energised.
