Slade is also nice in stonefall traps

I feel sorry for the invaders...

That's... worse than getting mangled by a horde of angry elephants.
Hey, let's not go crazy here. If you saw a horde of these coming for you...

If you saw a boulder that weighs as much as a small town dropping on you from a height...

... Then I'd still probably fear the elephants more. The boulder can only kill me. The elephants can do far worse.  :'(

Hm... It's a tough call. I suppose I'll have to compromise: I'll have my mason carve a slade statue of an elephant, then drop that on stuff.

Have your masons build a slade elephant colossus, and drop that.

No, no, have your masons build a giant slade rabbit and place it outside your fortress!

I agree. Rabbit is too powerful. Even the necromancer is scared of it!

Winged elephants!? Oh noes!
When I read this before the image loaded (woo, dial-up) I thought it'd be a reference to the Shantaks creatures devised by Lovecraft...

Quote from: H. P. Lovecraft
[...]they were larger than elephants and had heads like a horse's[...]the shantak-bird has scales instead of feathers, and those scales are very slippery.

...Rereading that, sounds a lot like a Forgotten Beast. Beware its deadly weight!

As usual, everyday dilemmas can be solved with the application of lovecraft.

I love the cartoon dwarven physics here, anything you can't see is diggable, slade or SMR. Just like coyote running off a cliff and only falling after he realizes there's no ground.

I previously developed a tactic to dig down through solid SMR similar to this. Works for at least 1-z level thick SMR. trick: channel down into unrevealed SMR, which creates a hole and a "Magma Flow" tile where you were standing. Flooring over the magma flow was necessary to be able to drop cave-ins through the tile. Supporting a cave-in on the floor made it "plug" the gap 1-z-level no matter how high the "plug", but dangling the cave-in from above made it punch all the way through to HFS.

The only limit being "unrevealed SMR" to dig down into, so you can only dig 1/4 of the layer, tops.

I might do more SMR studies soon.

Ok, so I've officially decided that it's time for s**** to get real, and I shall be going all out with my slade testing from today onward. Just thought you'd all like to know.

My first finding have shown that 7 legendary miners with copper helms and adequate skill in armor using, fighting, and striking still die pretty quickly when they refuse to take their assigned picks and get mauled by over 100 assorted zombies...

I-I think I may need to lie down...
