Cicatrix approaches Veranus with an armload of animated bone goods. She places them down gently at the Amazon's feet. "Here you go dear. Just get me those axes if you can afford them with this. If you can't afford three of em, get me as many as you can and some decent clothes. After that, do what you will with the extra."

The High Elf leaves Veranus without making further discussion and then approaches each member of the merchant group in turn, scanning them with mana in attempt to find somebody unimportant enough to have time to waste on a poor blind lady. Before Cicatrix can pick out the merchant she would like to start a conversation with however she is cut off by the Gnoll and dragged to the corner for some hushed discussion.

"...I told you to wait on me dear. I just looove old shrines and the like. It's probably not as creepy as you think... ohhh but I hope it is! I've just practiced reading via manna, it will be a brilliant test for my new vision! Just give me a few minutes to make small talk with the merchant slime first."

Greywood quickly seeks out one of the younger feeling and less busy members of the merchant group and leans on the wall nearby. "Mercenaries paying merchants... that's usually the other way around." Cicatrix flashes her most charismatic smile. "Gotta be an interesting story as to how that came about."

"Hello... are you by chance selling any machine parts or sheet metal?"
as he speaks, he contemplates if he has anything that he could trade them for. Maybe some old baubles. Or that peculiar apple in that cold storage room.

"Sheet metal and mechanical parts huh? Let me check in one of the tents, we don't usually get many people buying those."
After about an hour of waiting, the merchant returns with a bag full of metal scrap
"That's about all we've got worth anything. It's mostly just taking up space, so we're willing to give you a special offer. 100 coin. For everything."
The merchant seems off. Brier wasn't the best judge of character, but he at least had some experience with merchants.

Now he had time to look over the goods and see what was available. Weaponry, tomes, crafts and the such. All useful, but perhaps some imbuing was in order.

He shouted to the merchant:

"Oi, merchant! Do you need any of your goods enchanted?"

Wait for merchant's reply and if he say's yes, then imbue some of his stuff in exchange for some tomes and clothing. Also food and medical supplies. Food and tomes are the first priority. Once that's done, head off to the forests and talk to the spirits.

A merchant steps away from the group dealing with Veranus as Forrel shouts the magic word, "enchantment."
"Yes, how may I help you? You are interested in some of our fine enchanted weapons and armor, no?"
The merchant pops a big smile. It was obvious what this merchant was interested in immediately to Forrel. He had a great deal of experience in handling such merchants back at his home. They were usually thrown out immediately if they were caught making unfair deals twice.

Greywood quickly seeks out one of the younger feeling and less busy members of the merchant group and leans on the wall nearby. "Mercenaries paying merchants... that's usually the other way around." Cicatrix flashes her most charismatic smile. "Gotta be an interesting story as to how that came about."

Not allowing the merchants to get a word in, the merc leader comes over and responds to the conversation Cicatrix tried to strike up with the merchants.
"Not particularly. We just so happened to be going in the same direction, and the merchant leader just so happened to have space for us to ride. Passing through the mountain's inner systems was dangerous, so being able to avoid touching the ground directly seemed reason enough to justify paying for a ride."
"Don't trust any one of these merchants except their leader. He's a fine old man, but the rest of this lot wouldn't know what honesty is if a dragon bit their left leg off with some."

Brier nodded his head slowly and looked up.
"Thank you. I will think about it."
Brier turned away and his face creased with worry. As he passed Cicatrix, he whispered a simple phrase.
"Don't trust the merchant."
He headed back to the kitchen and looked if any of his belongings had any monetary value.

Veranus intercepted the merchant speaking to Forrel.

"Let me speak with my companion for a moment, trader."

@Forrel, aside and to the rest of the party in the area

"It was wise to let them know of our powers, but remember we can get more from them if sell as a tribe, instead of by ourselves. Once all of our resources are for sale, I will offer them as a package deal-they will buy the goods they might not usually have, to make the deal and gain what they really want.

If you trust me, allow me to sell your talent to them."

((I suppose that would put me in the area.))

Ba responded to Varnus.

"I tried selling my skills to the merchants, but they think I'm some kind of monster based on how I fight. I can do blacksmithing, bladecraft, weapon repairs and the like, but you'd have to make sure they don't know. Not that they're all that bright..."
Ba scratched at his chin. "Now that I think of it, why don't I craft the axes that Cicatrix wants? All I'd need is some raw metal and some wood for the handles. Well... and a forge if that door wasn't shut."

Cicatrix nods. "I guess the dangers in this realm a different than back home. Where I come from merchants would be expected to pay mercenaries for riding along to ward off bandits. The dangers of the road must be very different here indeed. What job or quest is so important as to make you brave them? I'm sure you will do just fine, if you are brave enough to tell the lady flanked by corpse golems who to trust, you are brave enough to conquer any task or vanquish any beast."

She reaches out her frail bony hand to the giant, and speaks softly so as the merchants don't here. "I'm lady Greenflower. pleased to make your aquienence." Revealing her name was a calculated risk, but Cicatrix had many children and apprentices over the years who took her surname, so it wasn't an automatic give away.

"You're that crazy necro-queen eh? I heard rumors you might have escaped. Don't worry about us, the instant you were captured by a government your official bounty was lost. Only private contracts are available for you now, and we don't take private contracts."
"I can tell you all about the dangers around here whenever you want after we settle in at a nearby village, though you might want to ask one of your pals to take you there. Being blind in your case must be a nightmare."

Dwarmin, I get that you want to be a jack-of-all-trades type of leader character, and that's all well and good, but I don't think you have a clear understanding of your less-than-no merchanting skill. You also have the worst luck.
If you still want to try to deal, then okay. I'll let you, and I'll be objective in how it happens. I'm just giving you a fair warning that you're most probably making a mistake.
Anyway, I'm going to go update one of the OOC posts to include a more in depth description of skills, perks, and attributes. You have a nice long think about whether you want to continue with your shenanigans or not.

Cicatrix frowns briefly. Crazy was an adjective she was quite used to, what annoyed her however was the fact that history had painted her solely as a Necromancer. Great and terrible things were possible with nature magic."I can get around okay. I'll be quite fine traveling alone once I get some creations a bit more advanced than basic flesh golems. That said I'm sure some of the others would like to come listen as well. Must be a huge list of dangers if you don't have time to list to them now."

She pauses for a few seconds, connecting the dots in her head. "I'll take it there are governments exclusive to this realm then. If you only do official work I'd wager any government with an interest in the material plane would have you fighting Hyperion and his good squad."

Action: If D attempts to trade: Wait for the trading to conclude, take any items I may obtain from the deal and visit the shrine. If it looks like the bartering will take some time mutate some of the swarming insects in my possession into Queen Insects with nature magic while I wait.

If D dose not attempt to trade: Head straight to the shrine

"I suppose you could say there are governments here. They certainly don't call themselves that, but that's essentially what they are here in the mana realm."
"They officially refer to themselves as guilds, with massive unions to represent the guilds of specific continenets. Major guilds have the authority to post official warrants, jobs, and bounties just like countries could in the physical realm. The only real difference is that guilds can use things other than money as the rewards. It can be rare artifacts, legendary weapons, land, precious materials from the soul realm. Anything considered to be of equal value to the task."

Hmm. Lemme sum what I saw.

Brier: 0 CHA, 1 Merchanting
Veranus: 4 CHA, -1 Merchanting
Forrel: 1 CHA, 0 Merchanting
Cicatrix: 5 CHA, -5 Merchating
Bagandi: -3 CHA, -2 Merchanting, also hates merchants. :I

I'm looking at our player list and seeing Veranus as the best one-she's got the second best CHA score and while Brier and Forrel each have 1 and 0 points respectively, then also have 0 and 1 CHA. Either of them might be better right now-depending on how weighted CHA is vs Merchanting skill, but if Veranus earns any merchant skills she'll be better than both.

I don't know any of the numbers, but I guessed that high CHA would overcome the lack of experience. Which is all I can do right now is guess. That's assuming CHA boosts my skill.

I already updated the thing with the thing, but I could have sworn Forrel had 3 merchant skill when I was assigning base stuff for him. Investigation time.

Cicatrix nods. "Sounds interesting. I'd just love to have a nice long talk with you about guilds, danger, and other such things. Why don't you tell me where the village you are settling into is, I'll drag some of this group over and visit for a day or two when you are ready."

"It's a port town on the far west coast of the boxed-in valley this place overlooks. We had intended to ride only that far, but the merchant said he saw people here and wanted us to escort him a bit further. Your lizard pal has a map and directions to get there, so just ask him to lead the way if you get lost."
