((I knew the forge was locked, but I didn't know that Veranis wasn't the owner of the place. In-character at least.))

"I'll take first watch when night falls. When it's morning I'll try and force the door to the forge." he paused for a moment. "So what brings you here? Surely we can't be here for the same reason."

Veranus inclined her head toward Ba'gandi Kash.

"Chance, I suppose. This group-when it was larger-rescued me from a fate worse than death."

The Elf turns to the left and lifts her armor to one side, showing him the slave mark on her back. Then she lets it fall, feeling a bit self conscious.

"They denied me a warriors death, you see. So, I have vowed to protect these people in repayment, as long as I can, and when Hyperion returns for me, I will make him give me the release I deserve-or he will die by my blade.

I suppose my story is not so unique. What warrior of a shattered people has not vowed to slay Hyperion for his multitude of crimes, in defiance of all logic and hope...it is a dark dream, but it is all I hold onto now.

...

Tell me, Ba'gandi Kash. What have you lost? What has he taken from you?"

"Hyperion took my family, my tribesmen away from me. They all died while I was trapped under a rockslide. I should have fought beside them, but instead was forced to listen to them die around me. They all died fighting, that is all any of our tribe could hope for. He may have taken them, but that isn't why I'm after him. I'm after Hyperion for the challenge of the fight. I want to prove that I can succeed where others have failed."

Ba'gandi leaned forward, unintentionally showing the massive scars on his shoulders.

"If I walked away now it would be no better than running in the heat of battle. I may be scarred, but you'll find no scars on my back from running away from a fight."

Ba'gandi sat back again and tilted his head to the side.

"If Hyperion marked my back like that, I'd certainly want his head an a platter. I think our goal is the same."

Veranus her finger down the edge of her spear thoughtfully. She was glad to have someone to talk to. The words began pouring out like blood from a wound.

"Much the same with me-we fought, and we lost. Everything.

I still do not know why Hyperion went to the trouble to attack my lands-we were so far from any large habitation, we foolishly thought ourselves safe and cut off from the world, as we had been for many thousands of years.

We had gathered all the clans of the jungle-Dancing Serpent, Singing Hawk, Rushing Gorilla, Bleeding Spider, Lunging Crocodile and my own, Springing Tiger. We made them pay for intruding on our lands...but, not nearly enough.

I was there when our lines finally broke after a month of fighting. They poured through our lines and assualted our homes, while the rest encircled us.

Hyperions Elemental Generals were finally brought in-we apparently had angered him so-and, I saw my Queen facing three of them by herself. The elemental powers released blasted, scorched and froze the very jungle around me. When the dust cleared, I saw she had fallen, and taken two of them with her to the afterlife-one of fire and one of ice. The third I do not describe-for he is mine to kill, one day.

I knew the battle was lost. I thought to order a retreat-command had fallen to me, now that everyone else was dead-but I am ashamed to admit I could only think of my own family and the hope I could escape with them. So, I broke through the enemy lines and ran for my village.

I was too late of course-I saw that my husband had been slain defending the entrance of our home. He never held any illusions of being a fighter-he was a builder, an artist, a thinker. A kind and gentle man. He could hardly bear to kill an insect, yet he laid down at least a dozen of the enemy that day.

I only entered to find my four children were also slain, the murderers long departed. I held them for awhile, praying to the Gods to bring them back. They were not listening.

I cannot remember much after that. I remember screaming, and killing. I do not know how many of the foe I slew in revenge, only that it must have been a significant amount-I remember shattering my spear on the face of an Ogre-Knight and strangling several Goblins and Fell Humans with my bare hands. Then there is a sharp pain on the back of my head, and I let the darkness take me. I wake up in chains...and, well the rest of the story you can extrapolate from there.

Veranus sighed deeply.

When(if) you go back to fight Hyperion, do you want me to describe the EGT, or do you want to do it yourself, Dwarmin?

"Who is this Solom? Oh, and do you know of any other Spirit Lairs?"

It was interesting what he could glean from these spirits.

"Solom is the eternal master of The Hub. Anything and everything that happens in and around The Hub has already been determined and made allowed to transpire by Solom. Had he chosen otherwise, you would most certainly be of those who were made to die by now."
"Our master of the lair has told us that you are of those allowed to enter and exit the lair of free will. However, we cannot answer any more questions of Solom or The Hub. If there are no further questions, we can escort you safely to The Hub."

"I thank you for your answers, and yes an escort back would be welcomed."

Once Forrel gets back, he would tell his companions and researchers about the news.  He would then try to to search for hidden doors or pathways in the walls, hidden from view, and the such.

    Brier
Brier manages to repair his Weave Cracker, but he couldn't do much more than that. Its longevity isn't much better, but with the little amount of sleep Brier had it's amazing that it was successfully repaired in the first place. He immediately puts his piece to work on another door in the kitchen, which cracks open leading to what appears to be food storage. Amazingly the machine withstood the breach, but until it gets a much needed upgrade, Brier supposes it won't be put into use any time soon.
This new storage is incredibly cold, with a closed off area that's far too frigid to just waltz on into. There's not much food, and anything he can find isn't worth eating. The only piece of food that seems unspoiled is an apple. Something seems off about it though, so Brier decides to leave it where it stands.
As Brier exits the storage and double checks the locks on the kitchen door, the overworked elf passes out where he stands, falling to sleep on the kitchen floor. Brier will not be awake until midday tomorrow.
    Veranus Tigerclaw
Not trusting unknown strangers, especially caravans of them, in this bizarre land is the only way Veranus knows to ensure even a little safety for her saviors. She holds a small meeting with those that seem unable to defend themselves informing them all to stay in the barracks while she and the other fighters check out the caravan to make sure it's safe.
She offers herself as a representative of the group, and the necromancer has a little chuckle at the idea. After a few questions, and some mild debate between onlookers, everyone in the courtyard goes to the barracks, and Veranus goes back to her shelter under the obelisk-like statue she has claimed "ownership" of. The idea of having to eat another of her disgusting rations causes Veranus to lose her appetite, sending the woman to sleep with no supper. Something she loathed doing.
    Forrel de Yahmiz
Forrel is taken back to the castle in mere seconds by the large spirits, who quickly return to their lair. A meeting was already taking place, so Forrel takes the opportunity to share his findings with the rest of the group, which the scholars delight at. They quickly drag Forrel off to have him help write down the information. Having no chance to escape, the shaman ends his day with a rather uncomfortable rest with the men and women that dragged him off.
    Cicatrix Greywood Greenflower
Cicatrix attends the meeting, while working a bit more on her home. The woman who gave her the bones proposes to represent the group when the convoy arrives. A rush of nostalgia fills the fallen queen's mind as she remembers when she would make similar proposals to her father. She chuckles at the memories. The young Forrel person talks about the mage king, which causes Cicatrix to recall her father having an old friend named Solom who died hundreds of years before her birth.
Having her temporary home mostly completed, Cicatrix takes another whack at the plants in the garden, this time knowing not to be aggressive. She studies the weave of the plants, something far more complex than the doors could ever hope to be. It seems that the plants mattered more to this Solom person than anything in the rooms he had locked. As time goes on, Cicatrix notices that the weave is still going on, and she quickly abandons the idea of being able to break it.
She begins talking with the plants that will answer back, and finds that these plants would be rather useless for her army and home, as they are locked in that endless weave to keep them from destroying themselves. They'd go extinct long before she'd have the chance to incorporate them into anything.
She takes mental notes of plants that grow fruit or have venom, then goes back to her plant-house. Cicatrix eats a ration, and begins to gag. A few hundred years in prison, and the first meal she gets after finally having a proper room is more stale and salty than sin itself. She coughs down the rest of the ration, and quickly begins gulping down some of her drinking water to wash away the taste. She nearly passes out from the experience, but eventually manages to fall asleep.
    Ba'gandi Kashi
Ba attends the meeting, offering himself as a guard for those who'd be hiding in the military wing. The bizarre bird-thing comes back and starts yammering about someone Ba didn't particularly care about. The whole caravan affair doesn't sit well with Ba though, it feels too familiar to an experience he had after Hyperion's attack. He can't put his finger on what it could be, and eventually gives up on thinking about it.
To take his mind off of things, Ba perches himself at the only entrance the caravan can reach this overly-huge complex in, sniffing around in the direction of the other paths leading out to see if there's anything worth exploring eventually.
Ba spends the night guarding the entrance and sniffing around. A cave to the east is smelled, and there appears to be something behind the building birdy called the hub.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________
The night passes with no spectacular events. It is now morning, and the NPCs are huddled in the barracks. The caravan has arrived. Everyone(excluding Brier) has confronted the caravan.
A rather portly fellow in an extravagant robe lined with golden linens steps out of the leading carriage, surprised to see people actually here. Ba recognizes the person and suddenly realizes why the situation felt familiar. It's a merchant he worked for, one of the more annoying ones too.
A few mercenaries step out and pay the merchant, apparently they were just passengers. The lead mercenary is a rather large male human, covered in scars from head to toe. He has short black hair, tan skin, and one of his eyes appears to be gouged out. He stands at about 8'7" and seems to be uncharacteristically somber. On his back is a colossal sword that's only slightly shorter than him, it's about the width of three people, and has no guard. Its handle would require at least six hands, and is wrapped in a bloody cloth. How such a weapon can be swung by anyone is a mystery to the group.
The merchant says they'll be staying for the next two days and will come around once a week for two days every time. The portly fellow is acting uncomfortably close to everyone.
The civilians in the barracks are told they can come out by a rather disgruntled Ba'gandi.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________
It is morning. For the next two days anyone can interact or RP with the merchant or mercenaries.

Cicatrix smirks. "Supplies. Wonderful."

The Necromancer turns to the woman who shared the bones, still unawhare of the Amazon's disdain for her. "If I were to craft those bones into trade goods, would you be willing to hawk them to the merchants for me? I've been... away... for a long time. I'm afraid I don't know the current value of anything, and I'd hate to make a fool out of myself. All I want are some proper axes for my creations to chop wood with, if what I make is worth more than that you can buy stuff for yourself with the remainder."

Action: Animate the bones into self propelled household goods such as mortar/pestals, brooms, stiring spoons, ect...

Completely ignoring the merchants, Ba said "I'm going behind the hub. I saw something hiding over there last night. Is anyone else going?"

Ba'gandi clearly wanted to get away from the merchants, and decided that he may as well investigate behind the hub while he was at it. He'd still go alone if only to be far away from the merchants.

Action: Investigate behind the hub.

((Unless someone can suggest another action this is what Ba will do, even if it is kind of dangerous to leave new mercs that you don't know alone.))

Veranus crouched, choking down a ration for breakfast. It was not usually like her to go without meals, but she had not been feeling well lately. She only ate enough to stop her growling belly, and gave the rest to a small refugee child who seemed hungrier than she was. Hardly as act of charity, considering...

Veranus knew of merchants-they had often brought news and traded vital supplies such an medicine and steel weapons, and oftentimes luxuries such as fine cloth, Dwarven stonecraft and magical trinkets to her tribe, in exchange for Elven Woodcraft, leathers, exotic spices and gemstones. She had also never met one who deviated from the norm-all overstuffed and pompous as peacocks, flanked by well paid killers for hire wherever they went. It always seemed to Veranus, that they always seemed to come away at an advantage.

She heard the Necromancer speaking to her. She cast a single weary glance at it.

"I can do that for you, Necromancer. If the fear of being foolish lies too heavily upon what you have for a heart, Veranus will spare you this burden and take it upon herself.

Rest assured, they know we are desperate for supplies and we will not get a fair bargain today, unless they seek to squeeze us for greater profit down the road. The words of merchants are slippery as river pythons.

I will do all I can, though."

And, Veranus thought but did not say, do not think me such a simpleton that I cannot imagine your axes cutting more than wood.

Veranus thought she might try fashioning her own goods-but she could barely remember the stone or woodshaping lessons she had recieved from her Husband all those years ago...but, she would try. Maybe it would bring her some joy, a good memory for once. His hands were deft, and had made the most beautiful things, like...

She looked at the empty spot on her left hands pointer finger-once, she had worn her husbands betrothal ring there, but the slavers had stolen it when they chained her, and she could not find it again afterwards. But, she had marked the faces and names of her tormentors-she knew which ones escaped the trap, and one day she would hunt them down, one by one, until she got it back.

Assuming she lived that long. She stood up, spat upon the ground at the Necromancers feet-more of a reflex than an intended insult, but she did not care how the creature took it-and began walking to the garden.

Action: After eating a ration, Veranus will attempt to gather some stones and use her rock magic to shape it into the likeness of the things traders like-amulets, rings and cups.

When finished, Veranus will then try to hawk the bone and wood goods for coins.

((OOC: Once I sell to the merchant, we'll need a list of things he is selling))

(Lol -5 merchant skill for me)

Cicatrix, too blind to notice the spit was aimed in her direction, smiles and waves at the Amazon as she departs.

"Thank you dearie. I knew that much. In two weeks we will have good stuff to trade and appear much less desperate. If you can't afford the axes now, I'd do with some clothes instead. I'm too blind to know for sure, but I have a feeling that the torn garment I'm wearing now is not entirely... erm modest."

With that, Lady Greenflower returns to her room to get to work.

I don't even remember giving you such low merchanting skill, that's actually fairly amusing. But there's no wood in the garden. At least not this one, I might put trees in some of the other wings and gardens I'll bother letting you guys get access to.
