Veranus walks up to the man, with a look of mild concern.

"You there. I saw you in the forest. I don't believe we were properly introduced...?"

"Ah, right. You're the one who was watching as I was being dragged off by poachers. Luckily my men were there. By the way, have you met my good friend Hoz yet?"

Veranus sniffed. She felt oddly defensive in his presence.

"Forgive me then-on the account of strangers one does not lightly throw away their life, especially those who have been spying upon them. Why did you run, anyway?

Also I had a child to protect...do you hold a grudge against me for that?"

It's not the elf. It's the human in the glowing armor. The elf wasn't taken prisoner at any point.

"That cynicism tells me you have met him. Good, now I don't need to exert energy on anger. To answer your question, my men and I 'ran' away because we were trying to capture some heavily injured animals for Hoz to heal. The phoenix was just one of them, and we figured we'd have a chance to retrieve its egg from you at a later time."

"Lets have that rematch then. We'll hold it outside. It may be snowing, but I'd rather not tear this place apart." Ba started walking towards the door.

Veranus was not put at ease. She smiled dangerously.

"Fair enough. Do you still have plans to 'retrieve' the egg from me now?"

Veranus wouldn't-couldn't...it just wasn't who she was. It didn't matter if she was still wounded, and unarmored-and he was in some sort of glowing plate. It wasn't the point...that familiar tang of rage came back. Ahh, but unlike before it was now a righteous anger.

She stepped forward and pushed him in his armored chest. Doubtfully not pushing him very far, considering their opposing states.

"I bet you feel awfully confident in that armor, don't you? You think to tread upon me in my state of weakness? Some warrior you are."

Her fists clenched...unclenched.

"You...but, How can you can understand? What do you understand about me that you think you can pass judgement? You've never had a life ripped away from you, have you? Fought back from a despair so crushing it was eating you alive from the inside out? No, I don't think so.

Just another swaggering mercenary. Your only true love is the coin, right? Do what you are paid to do, kill who are ordered to...what would you know of true loss?"

"Lady, you seem to be misunderstanding. I don't get payed for what I do. I'm asked to do something, and I do it. It's as simple as that. And don't go around acting like you're the only one who's suffered around here. Almost everyone in this building was a slave for most of their life, and they've seen just as much, and definitely more, taken away from them as you have."
The man walks away into another part of the hall. Everyone who could hear the conversation simply stares nervously at Veranus as she contemplates how to proceed.

miceclus: "Don't worry, you can talk Forrel. We're in the capital. We can either go straight to the main guild hall, or we can pay a visit to some shops and shrines before continuing our way. Do you have anywhere in particular you want to go?"

    Brier
Brier looked over the materials his helpers brought back. Most of the tools have degraded in quality with time, but still clearly outclass the chunk of wood and metal he had put together. The minerals, while not plentiful, were enough to make the gauntlets. At least of a quality high enough to consider them worth using.
He placed what he needed at a bench a ways from the forge. Brier still wasn't entirely used to being young again, and neatly trips into the unlit smelter, bumping his head on the walls within. He climbs out, nearly stumbling again, then takes a bit of time regaining his balance. He lights the forge, then neatly processes the materials into several very small bars of silver, gold, platinum, and steel.
The bump on his head from earlier begins to give Brier a headache, and eventually his work has to be put to a halt. Brier takes a visit to the medical area across from the barracks and someone treats the light concussion he received.
Quickly returning to his work, Brier works the metals, and eventually finishes crafting the gauntlet. He uses the few leftover materials to make some decent carving tools, and gets the designs carved into the separate pieces of the gauntlet. After reassembling the pieces, Brier's technomagic gauntlets are complete. They didn't turn out as high quality as he hoped, but while wearing them he can certainly feel a difference in how mana flows in his hands.
    Cicatrix/Seiyas
Seiyas and Cicatrix spend the morning working the bone tools into more versatile and tough materials. The quality of the bones become just weaker than iron from the enchantments of Seiyas, and Cicatrix warps the shape of a fair number of the tools into something more suited to digging up stone. The two attempted to make a decent bone golem with the new tools, but they found that it would either fall apart immediately, or the enchantments keeping the bone strong would fall apart upon movement.
They eventually settle on seeing the enhanced tool structure and strength as victory enough.
    Ba'gandi Kashi
Ba and Cyrano step outside of the building into the blistering winds of the blizzard. Neither can see the other very well, but the two realize immediately when the match began. The rules were the same as the last match, and Ba was determined to win. Cyrano seemed no less confident, but this time Ba was calm, adn wouldn't go after Cyrano if he couldn't.
The battle raged through the morning, as Ba and Cyrano kept each other from moving more than a few steps. Eventually, one of Cyrano's men grew impatient and stepped into the battlefield. The two combatants flew at each other from the shock, exchanged punches, and then withdrew to the other side of the field. Cyrano took a sprint, and when Ba went to block his back as a lesson from the last duel, Cyrano got a knick under Ba's other eye from the feint Ba went to block. There were no theatrics, and both had acknowledged the end.

She merely turned away before she could attack the arrogant man-trying to calm herself. She needed to find the truth...

Action: Veranus tries to find out the truth of this place. Why were they slaves? Who enslaved them?

"How are we going to use them? I don't think I'd be very good at quarrying, but I could always try. My golems should be able to help also, I think." Picturing the puppet golems flailing with their tools brought a slight furrow to her brow, but that'd probably still be better than trying to do it all by hand. She intended to dig through a sizeable amount, after all.

"Also, does it matter where I get the stone from? I don't know the layout of this region."

"I'm guessing they are as tough as copper at least. Plenty good for mining all but the toughest stuff I'd reckon."

Cicatrix scratches her ear. "I think some of the corridors here end in rough stone caverns. You can explore a bit."

The madwoman shrugs. "I'd assume you know more about the earth than I. I trust you to pick the stone we use. If you can't find anything in here we can go out and scour the forest later when the weather dies down."
