On one hand we can try the art of conversation hoping that if she lies to us or has reason to lie to us we can figure it out without getting horribly maimed/killed .On the other hand if she's any kind of magic user, 100 year old demon, mindflayer or anything else with a stronger mind then the guy who hears voices they may not like it when we go bumping around in their mind without permission. AND if they're not A mind melting psychic then It would be Incredibly rude to go peeking at someone else's private thoughts without permission. Try talking first.
