So I just embarked...
« on: October 11, 2011, 12:48:37 am »

And I'm watching DF's RAM usage climb alarmingly high.

650Megs

700

750

800

850

It's just shy of 900

This may be an interesting embark.  It's still going (but rising slower now).

...

5 mins later

...

Oh look, the magma sea is 4z above my dwarves.

This is not going to end well.

Actually, according to DFreveal and looking around the rock layers themselves are intact and in the proper places.  It's just my magma sea is not.

If I unpause with no magma sea is the world going to implode onto the SMR?  (Scratch that:  I have candy veins)

I'll probably fix it with DFhack and play it as normal.  Everything else seems in order.

*shrug*

unless a cave-in occurs, the rock should rest nicely on the SMR as it does near the bottom of the magma sea.  If there;s a cave in, it might make a hole...

...

Yes.

Or rather, it was until I cleaned it up with DFhack.

Before unpause so my dwarves didn't get insanely murdered.

It looks like it isn't refilling the map above the surface from the edges, which I find strange.  I was just going to hack in an obsidian border for the map.

That may be problematic if it keeps you from accessing magma for, say, obsidian farming

YOU FOOL!  You should have let it land as it would!  What better cause for dwarven lives than sudden magma rain?  Why else would they move their little wagon out to the middle of a floating magma cascade, other than to seek fire from the sky?!

So you have a pre-magma flooded map? I see no problems here although you may lack goals now that maximum magmafication has been reached.

Please, if you have the seed for this map, post it.

Seeds won't do it but I was considering posting the save for another reason.

There are probably more bugged maps even though this one is fixed.

What happens if I fill the magma sea with water?

Re-embark and surround your caravan and dorfs with obsidian walls.

Now build a fort belowthe magma sea that has engulfed everything above you.

Actually, the five other sites I've looked at have been perfectly fine.

If you started under the Magma Sea then your dwarves are the not-so-H F S.   :o
