The Company
A Forum RPG Experience
The Red Dragon Inn was the most famous tavern in Farhaven; it was perhaps the most famous tavern in the known world. Generations of adventurers had stopped by the venerable establishment to seek their fortune and toast the start of their careers. Tonight would be no different. Gerard sat at the most prominent table in the room, tapping his fingers on the old wood. He'd been friends with members of the local Brotherhood of Sellswords, Mercenaries, and Treasure Hunters. This relationship had managed to land him a Company Charter, but he had no brothers in arms to sign to the charter! No matter, surely there were five stout souls in this city, on this busy night of drinking and merrymaking, that would join. Membership in a sanctioned company carried some hefty benefits, after all, and he was even offering a small supply package and stipend to any that joined him.
He just needed five volunteers that would sign on for gold, battle, and glory, and his company would be born.
((OOC Info: This is a RPG where you, the people in the thread, will take control of a character in a fantasy realm at the height of the romantic era, just after the Renaissance technologically. Gunpowder weapons and swashbuckling fights have become widespread, but the use of armor and a sword is far from dead in this realm. PM me to set up your character, and then once the game is underway and you're in, just play by posting here what your character is saying, doing, whatever! I'll generally update once a day or so, more often on slow days and days off, less often when busy. All actions posted in a given day will occur at the update together, in the best order I can manage. Characters are free to role-play with one another in the thread as much as they desire before updates; the updates will only affect the actions and such of NPCs and the game world. The game will start once I have five players, but is not limited to just five! Sign up, and let your career as an adventurer in this world unfold!))
Character Creation and How to PlayTo create your character, simply PM me with your character's name, race, and class, and a physical description of them. Include as much or little of a backstory as you like (if you can't think of much, we can always flesh one out together later, or leave it up to me to do it for you). As a general guideline, any class or race from Dungeons and Dragons 3.5 will be greenlit without question. However, that doesn't mean you have no other options! Any special ideas you want to run by me, just ask in the PM and we'll discuss it. Even if my answer is no, for certain classes it's something that will come later, and some others are not something you need a class to do (what is a pirate but a rogue or fighter that's at home on a ship, anyway?). I'll email you back to coordinate any other details needed as well as your starting inventory, and then you start playing in here!
"So, do I need to know how to play D&D to play this?"
Absolutely not! While I'll be using some dice and the like behind the scenes to handle the action, all YOU need are your imagination and fingers! Think of it sort of like a "YOU ARE X!" game. You type what you want your character to do in your post, then when I update the action happens! Talking is easier! Just type in quotes what you want to say, and who you're saying it to. You don't even need to wait for an update from me to talk amongst yourselves, either.
Make sure you clearly denote when you are speaking OOC (that's Out of Character for new people), that way I don't mistake your planning a secret with your fellow players or the like as something you're ALREADY doing or saying in a room full of people!
Good luck, and have fun!
