Low-Fantasy 3.5 Campaign
« on: October 10, 2011, 01:35:11 am »

Howdy Hey, Bay twelverinos.  I've been wanting to do a low-fantasy old fashion dungeon-focused *kinda* campaign for a while, no end of the world scenarios, no demon sieges or anything crazy.  More of the dank dirty forgotten ruins filled with collapsed walls, treacherous foot wide bridge over who knows what. Stuff that depending on how prepared you are, the better your loot.  Can't climb a wall that was once a stair case before a cave in?  Too bad.  Didn't bother to check for a trap on an ancient sarcophagus? Poison gas, roll a fort save or die.  Your guy died?  Well he's dead, roll another one when they get back to a town.

You WILL want to stock up on tools and torches, food I'm gonna let slide and assume you will always have some on you.  Crowbars, buckets, ladders, grappling hook and rope, ten foot pole, You'll be able to find a use for most of them.

Starting gold is 75 pieces, this campaign is not combat focused, but there will be fighting just rarely against humanoids.  There is no way to heal besides bed rest.

Campaign will be played on maptools v.85.

Spoiler: Campaign rules (click to show/hide)

Feel free to ask any questions.

     Shopping list

Lots of rope
Grappling hook

I'm not gonna list what you need just what's been bought.

edit- Forgot about ability scores, roll for them as normal With this, health is maxed first level.

Definitely looks interesting! I'd have to wait and see what time and day it's on, though.
However, wouldn't a lot of the more combat-oriented classes be a little useless in a campaign where combat is rare?
Not to say I wouldn't play one anyway. :P

You won't be fighting orcs and stuff, but big ass spiders, rats, monstrous centipedes, some undead (mostly zombies), trolls, stuff like that.  Things that "could" exist in a human world.

Also I'm pretty much nocturnal, So We'd only play when I'm awake.  Currently that's about 8PM - 10AM (GMT-4 I think).

Undead existing? Can you explain? I really would like to know how that works. Not doubting you but...how does it work? Diseases?

Not joining; don't know how these things work and I'd probably forget.

Low-Fantasy, not NO-fantasy.  I'm leaving out skeletons cause they don't make any sense, zombies however are simply re-animated corpses, how?  I don't know it's a MyStErY.

@Micelus: It's really very easy to learn these games, I mean, I have never played 3.5 before myself.
Basically you tell the DM what you wish to do and he translates it into the game's rules, and tells you what to roll.
If you think you won't remember the sessions though, I don't really have much advice for that...

Well the problem is more that I'm busy and I don't have control of my own schedule.  What program would I use to play? Hamachi? I seriously don't know.

Oh, and I have school. Not like I have the whole day to myself...

EDIT: Plus I'm in my exam periods...Have to re-memorize two years worth of education...

Stats: http://invisiblecastle.com/stats/view/27944/

I'm making a ranger that hates vermin and throws hammers at things. Woefully incomplete character sheet here:

Nice dex.  Also your gonna get both two weapon fighting and rapid shot, then again you could just use two hammers (when you get the feat) and double throw em as a full round action (again when you get the feat).  Basically you're a hammer bro.

Can I suggest that you cut down the amount of hammers though?  They don't have very good range so there more of a hit before the person closes in type of thing, plus there heavy.  Can I suggest like 6? or 5?  That's two for a full round double throw of manliness, then 2 more for two-weapon fighting, and 1 or two for auxiliary.  That and I can't see how you can carry 16 hammers.

edit- Also vermin was an excellent choice.
