Questions From A Noob
« on: October 08, 2011, 10:00:18 pm »

I'll update this post with as new questions come up throughout my playthrough. Any help would be much appreciated.

1. Sleep; Is it important in Adventure Mode?

Worldgen is sort of like gambling. There are many factors that could be damning. I remember not long ago I had a whole week of forts that had some major flaw like that. Maybe you don't have a good civ, maybe you do but elves/humans/goblins are extinct. Maybe all thats fine but you have no good metals. Maybe all the good metals are on mountains and you don't like that [or flat lands and you don't like that, whatever], maybe most of the FB/Titans have been murdered...  there's a bunch of things that define a world, and each one makes that world unique.

Though admittedly some are more annoying than others.

I've been using the Legends Viewer utility to take an in depth look so I can better understand my world, but it seems that there are 14 (!) dwarves left alive. Lol.
15 now that I created my femalw dwarven adventurer. Do you think if I make it my quest to impower the race of dwarves again I can do it?

Well, if you play in dwarf mode, the first two dwarven migrant waves are hard coded, so at the VERY least you could populate the world with a bunch of random, wandering dwarves... but as for rebuilding the civilization... I doubt it. Unless your dwarven queen/king is still alive, then you could become the capital, MAYBE get more migrant waves, and create a new dwarven capital. Granted if you were to abandon, it would cause the dwarves to wander and your stuff to scatter, so it would only *really* apply to fortress mode.

Well fudge. Gonna make a new world then. Lol. -.-; Hopefully in this one the dwarves are way beyond the silly capacity of humans.
Is there anyway to make sure the dwarves come out on top during history? Lol. Oh atleast more survivability!

I don't know of any sure fire ways, but like I said, worldgen is basically a crap shoot. When I make a new world, it's not uncommon for me to manually reject several gens because of one flaw or another in geography alone. Then once I get one I like, it's still in danger of being scrapped if the civs arne't all there. I don't care if they're at war with the elves, the silly fools don't bother me, but I'd atleast like them all to be alive.

Yeah, it's unfortunate. Though it's only really a *problem* if you play on big worlds with long history. If you do a small, short history world it takes all of 4 seconds. lol.

So I created a new world. It's medium sized.
The year is 298.

Humans: 573
Elves: 432
Unknown: 271
Goblins: 101
Dwarves: 70
Kobolds: 23

I... There are more goblins then dwarves. SOMETHING IS WRONG HERE.

There are more goblins then dwarves.

To modify one of my favourite quotes;

''Then you grab an Armokdamned axe and you kill them until their population reaches an appropriate level.''

Also; yes. Being drowsy is unfortunate so you want sleep. Try to sleep in doors [ask citizens in houses if you can stay the night], that way you aren't caught by boogiemen in the wilds with your pants down.

If you abandon a fortress and then make an adventurer will it be all along the same timeline ie:
Time actually passes with each game?
