He actually plays Iras for the entire second saga, which is about 5 CDs. Largely as a narrator, but they made a bonus track of Magic Of The Wizard's Dream with him singing the whole time, and that was pretty cool.

What makes a band hipster-ish? It has to be more than commonality.

How easy it is to relate them to a primary source of hipster music.

For example, let us take Owl city, a rather trendy band! One would think that it wouldn't be loved by hipsters, but not so! The lead singer of Death Cab for Cutie,  Ben Gibbard, has another band called The Postal Service that he uses for all he's good music, dumping the crap onto DCfC.
Owl Cities musical style is a pretty blatant rip off of TPS, so with so few links to get there, hipsters fucking eat that shit up.

Anamanagushi is only popular amongst hipsters ever since it was linked to Plum Tree, and then because of Paul Robertson, Architecture in Helsinki suddenly took off.

It is all about the chaining bro. Short chains make for hipster fanbait.

I want this so bad you have no idea. They don't sell things like that in our record stores.

TMBG isn't that obscure, are they? Especially since they did at least a few songs for Disney now..

I've liked TMBG since...about forever, my parents played it for me when I was a little tyke. I only really enjoy a few of their songs though, they're not really a band where I'll listen to entire albums all day long.

Here you go.

The only songs I've heard from TMBG are 'Istanbul Not Constantinople', which they didn't write, and The Mesopotamians.

TMBG isn't obscure in the slightest. At all. Why anyone would even think that confuses me.

And I don't like them. A few of their songs are mediocre at best, most make my ears bleed.

+1. If the name is generally recognized, they aren't obscure.

Well, it might have something to do with me not being used to being surrounded by fellow nerds. TMBG is a nerdy kind of band, so it only makes sense that a forum based around a game with ASCII graphics and rather complicated physics. I'm not hating on DF here, I love it, it's just that it's pretty much true.

Maybe because you listen to your autotune bullshit.
Please tell me that's a joke. I never want Bay12 to fall to the curse of "WAAH GO LISTAN TO UR X11!" that seems to be attacking Youtube right now.

Also, I defy anyone to sing along with "Birdhouse in your Soul" and not get happy.

The funniest part is that I hate autotune and listen to almost nothing made after 1990. So much for assumptions, eh?

@ Angel of Death: Yeah, I was hoping I would never have to see that stupid "98% of teens listen to crappy rap/pop, copy this if.. blah blah blah" or "lolol i mentond justen bebir i r funny" crap anywhere but YT. Not liking a genre of music or "music" doesn't mean you get to annoy people by making obnoxious, cliched comments to emphasize how cool you are because you listen to band x or genre x. You don't listen to music because it is "deep", "cool" or "underappreciated" (unless you're a hipster), you listen to it because you enjoy it. (At least, I would hope so. If you listen to music because it makes you different, make a loop track of two apes beating the shit out of each other with trashcans and play it constantly, because that sure as hell is unique.) No need to go around blathering about how great you are because you like some mediocre band. Discussing bands, on the other hand, is an ancient and sacred art of personal attacks, sweeping generalizations and differing tastes that is completely different in every possible way and should never be restricted or ignored.

Yeah, I'm so totally not playing this until I have a person to keep me company while playing.
Just 1 hour in I believe...

Dear god that is beautiful!
Kael, get over to the music thread, and start dumping. GOGOGO!!! Your forum needs you!

Edit: Hey look, that lead to a band called 'Gutevolk' and once again, I am in love. Seriously, only Mogwai has ever dipped me into an affair with sound so very quickly, so thank you Kael, I will be at peace for some time to come. I can not tell you what a great service you have done for me without even knowing it.

I post in the music thread occasionally. The music I post is really chill to offset most of what others post. Like Bluedawn, which you would probably like.

Anyhow, glad to help. I'm always looking for new music.
