Tiny Toons must have be the most underground, obscure cartoon ever made.

Holy crap, the one other person who ever saw... Nah, you're probably a poseur, just read about it on Wikipedia and thought you'd namedrop.  Next you're going to tell me you were then when Homestar Runner, and you'll be a liar because no one was.

So if we're all being hipsters here I can think of three bands off the top of my head that are so much more obscure than TMBG, and I'm sure none of you would ever enjoy them.

Does enjoying Rhapsody Of Fire make me a hipster? They're not very popular, and many people haven't heard of them. I'm unclear on this whole one-who-is-hip thing.

Like, there's this totally awesome song about this dragon named Trogdor. Don't even bother Googling it, you won't find it.

I'mma go steal a post to get back on topic for a second. I listened to them with my dad as a child, alongside the Talking Heads, Devo, and the B52s. I've sang their tunes with my buddies during road trips. I've seen them in concert once.

They're a source of a great many fond memories, and their good-natured and quirky attitude brings me no small amount of happiness. Their name is a reference to Cervantes' "Don Quixote"... the phrase "...they might be giants." has a sort of hopeful, dreamlike quality; despite his awareness of his own senility, the windmills which the man from La Mancha meant to joust could still be the things he saw them to be. It's a neat notion, relating to the perseverance of dreams in the face of harsh reality.

Yay Talking Heads. David Byrne is one of my heroes.

I was an unintentional hipster back in the early 90's, just because a lot of bands that I picked up on turned out to kind of a big deal later. Like this guy who won a talent show in Charlottesville and got to be the opening act on the HORDE festival, named Dave Matthews. I heard he has his own Band now. Also, the Spin Doctors and Blues Traveler, although both are defunct now.

Still love all my early DMB albums, even though they later became a frat boy favorite for reasons I will never fathom.

Also, I defy anyone to sing along with "Birdhouse in your Soul" and not get happy.

Heh, hipster thread. Would I be unhip to admit to liking a band you all like? If so, fuck you.

Don't mind me, just listening to my Korean indie post-rock and Japanese/Scottish blended shoegaze.

This isn't that obscure, so I don't mind sharing. Good night bay12!

I'm so hip, I can't see over my coxal bone.  :P

Dear god that is beautiful!
Kael, get over to the music thread, and start dumping. GOGOGO!!! Your forum needs you!

Edit: Hey look, that lead to a band called 'Gutevolk' and once again, I am in love. Seriously, only Mogwai has ever dipped me into an affair with sound so very quickly, so thank you Kael, I will be at peace for some time to come. I can not tell you what a great service you have done for me without even knowing it.

I only know one David Byrne track, but I liked it. It was included with my Windows Media Player years ago.

I don't think goofy italian epic metal counts for hipsterdom.

Ooh by the way, did you know that Christopher Lee plays Iras in that one song, Mystic Prophecy of the Demon Knight?

They're, like, so totally obscure, and that is certainly why I like them, rather than the fact that they were pretty much responsible for the post-punk movement. And they're Louisville boys, and were in a range of other great bands, like Squirrel Bait.

The really hipster part about liking regional groups from a couple decades ago is that practically no one who wasn't a part of the Louisville punk community knows who they are/were. Especially because apart from the Bold Beginnings compilation and a few live tapes there really isn't much material available, so much so that some most of them *gasp* aren't on youtube!
