I'm curious, is there any way to get to a thing and retrieve the thing from within in adventure mode without uncovering it through fort mode first? From what I know, things are spawned only when you start a new fortress (and even then aren't necessarily guaranteed).

Naw, I'm pretty sure things are spawned during world gen, and I know that there is one thing per 16x16 area. I'm also pretty sure you can get to one via underground passages or something.

HOLY flying carp, that stuff is amazing.

HOLY BEARED MAGMA CARP! We need to mod in some of that stuff.

Beared? Does that mean like a cross-breed between between a holy bear and a magma carp?

Someone. Mod this in. Now.

I have a magma carp. I accidentally enabled it to not need to breath, though....

You know my least favorite part about naps? I've got no idea what's going on for about an hour afterwards... Also, it always leaves a weird taste in my mouth.

Magma carp sound fun, I like how dwarves like them for their hot bods.

So, we can obtain slade boulders now?

We need to utilize burrowing to attempt to get a slade artifact bludgeoning weapon -- if that "metal and stone" thing is still true, a burrowed moody weaponsmith might get us a Slade Warhammer

Perhaps we can get slade warhammers now. I'm pretty sure no one has tried yet, simply because we've been told it's impossible. Thing is, I just learned about even getting slade boulders, and I checked the wiki later on, which said that happens. However, it also said it doesn't show up on the stones screen, but I was able to select it as a building material.

Time to try and force some weaponsmith moods...  You'll need to get lucky though, and get a dwarf who has weapon skills, likes warhammers, and manages to pick up slade.  I would suggest using the "infinite melted bolts" hack to get unlimited copper or something, and have several magma forges set for various skill levels.  With luck, you should be able to turn any given migrant into a weaponsmith over some amount of time.

Let the hax begin!

We can also test the useability of Slade for masonry by creating a burrow containing a Slade stockpile and a mason's workshop, assigning a mason to the burrow, profiling the shop to the mason, and then ordering something made.  Similarly, rock crafts.

We could be on the cusp of a new era, where our dwarves will be armed and armored with the very dead stone of the underworld itself.

Which is perfectly reasonable.  The thing is just in a box.  The box is sitting on some dirt, many times.

Indisputably.
