Getting gypsum from blocks
« on: October 08, 2011, 09:31:58 am »

My mayor has been in a coma for several years because I don't have gypsum powder to make a caste.  He has an overlapping fracture.  Anyway, I traded for gypsum blocks but the option to turn them into powder at my magma kiln is still unavailable.  Strangely, the kiln says I need fuel but maybe that is just a bug carried over from the regular kilns.  I am beginning to wonder if gypsum blocks specifically cannot be reduced to powder.  Anyone know of this?

Blocks of anything can only be used to make buildings (workshops, bridges, roads, wells, etc.) and constructions (floors, walls, stairs, fortifications, etc.) - they cannot be used for any other tasks.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

A simple solution is to just trade for gypsum powder

"Needs Fuel" is the default error, it's unspecific and means "something is lacking" but is rather buggy there.  You need raw gypsum or bags of plasters, blocks don't serve the purpose, sadly.  Though you can build a gypsum block wall beside the traction bench, I'm sure he'll appreciate it.

You don't need plaster at all. Splints work just as well.

I think that plaster just helps stop the body becoming 'dented'
