Hey Forumdwarves, Ive got a problem
I have a very large above ground refuse pile that is walled off and the only entrance is through the center stairway which comes from my base, i also have about 80 - 100 dead bodies outside. My dwarves are ordered to not gather refuse from outside, because i didnt think that my refuse pile could handle that much and that it would eventually get full and cause refuse from my base to pile up and eventually cause miasma. Knowing all of this, what i wanted to do was dump all the dead bodies from outside (mostly trolls and goblins, also some humans, dont ask) into a special section i built into my above ground refuse pile. I ran into an issue with this when i realized that dwarves ignore outside dump tasks as long as [gather outside refuse] is set to off in the orders screen. So my question to you guys is, how do i dump outside objects without my dwarves gathering every single last dead animal piece?

You could mass forbid everything on the surface and then unforbid the things you want to be hauled.

if you enable the 'gather outside refuse' you'll get an additional option to enable or disable the gathering of vermin corpses, you can also set non-hunting related animal corpses to be forbidden, same with 'other deaths' and some various other settings under the Forbid section of the orders menu.

what you can do is simply forbid everything outside and reclaim only that which you want dumped. that way you can direct your dwarves more and prevent them from running all over the map (clean up one section at the time). that makes it easier to protect your garbagedwarves by stationing one or 2 squads of military dwarves along their route to prevent/limit losses due to ambushes.

Its not that im worried about ambushed i just was wondering if there was a way to do it without as much micromanagement. Someone should post "have all dump items be dumped regardless of location" into the suggestions section. that would clear all of this up. thanks for your answers guys.

well, if you really want to do this without micromanaging (well, it's not that intensive, you can just use the designation menu) you could always try dfhack, it has an autodump feature.
