Kalost sighed as he stored a letter inside of his pack. Damnit, he thought inside of his sober mind, why did Kikrost have to pick me for this? I have no skills whatsoever aside from socializing, for Armok's sake! The king could've picked other dwarves for this mission instead of a lying bastard like me! I tried to convince him that I saw ill-suited for it, that I was weak, both physically and mentally. He didn't believe a lick of it, and reminded me that I was the previous diplomat for the Mountainhomes, and if I really were physically or mentally weak, the stress would've killed me, or the zagith¹ that I had to meet with every week would've done it instead. Only good thing about my current situation is that I actually might have a chance to get a drink of something other than water.

"Oi. Sirlan," Kalost spoke to the dwarf beside him, as he rode his buffalo, and Sirlan rode a camel.
"Yeah, boss?" he answered quickly, as he looked towards his superior.

"'Bout how much further 'til we make it there?" Kalost inquired.

"Dunno, boss. I ain't got the map," he replied, as he took on a worried face. "Oi! Which one of you got the damn map?" he shouted at the dwarves and dwarfettes behind him. They all shrugged, and Sirlan looked even more worried.

"What? What's wrong?" Kalost asked. If they lost the damn map...

"Sorry, boss. Lost th'map." ...I'm gonna be pissed.

"You lost the map? Damnit! Who knows how far we've gone now!" Kalost was consumed with overwhelming rage. "You know, what? Fuck it! I don't care if this is the right place or not! We're setting up here!" Kalost immediately stopped the wagon, and hopped onto the ground. "Well, what're you guys waiting for? Help me unload the damn wagon!" he shouted at his companions.

Well, this is not a very good day so far. We've lost our damn map, and I've got a feeling that most of our supplies went with it. Just in case, once our rooms are ready, I'll be taking inventory. Karakzon's busy digging out the beginnings of our fort, and Fikod's cutting down the trees that're in the way of our pasture. First chance I get, I'll be putting a wall up around it so our animals won't go loose.

Construction of the animal-eat-grass-in-here-thing is completed. Right now, I'm ordering a second floor to be constructed above it, which is where we will store wood. The floor above it shall be the carpenter's workshop. Ingenious plan, is it not?

Beginning preparations of the fortress are complete. We have a trade depot, a stockpile for the crap we unloaded from our caravan, basic rooms, and a storage area for stone is being dug right now. Things are going well. We might actually make it through the year alive.

You've struck bituminous coal! Well, whoop-de-fucking-doo. We already brought some of it with us, so I guess that was 30 db well wasted.

In other news, our burn-coal-into-coal-with-coal things are up and running. We should have plenty of coke by the time our vein's dug. Not much else happened this month, so here's a rough drawing of the fort.
