For some reason I have gained an unearthly fascination with microcline, and have designated microcline stockpiles as well as additional masons to paint my fort a shiny magmaproof blue.

Do you have any materials that you cherish above all others?

FYI: Microcline isn't magma safe. Its melting point is 11500.

Have them killed. Nothing solves a problem quite as effectively as simply having it killed.

I personally like kimberlite.... Most people would probably agree with me on its superiority to microcline :P

If not kimberlite, I like olivine, or realgar is a "real" treat (get it? real as in realgar?) Harharhar!

Obsidian. Imagine a whole fort built out of stone looking like black glass.

I love you, obsidian.

Bauxite because of its pleasant colouration and if my fortress is ever electrified it will turn into aluminum.

I don't mean to alarm you, but it appears that your Dwarves are all in fact elephants.

Billon because with tetrahedrite as the only ore, it's both economic AND is easy on the eyes. Plus it... uh... I like the name?

Obsidian (smooth, shiny, weaponisable) and nether-cap (fun property that I haven't been able to exploit properly)

Thank god you told me that before I decided to build a magma monument of some sort...  :o

It's still pretty... <3 adamantine blue

... In regards to nether cap, how useful is it's ability? Just being a magma-safe wood is very nice, but the more esoteric applications are what make it fun. Do cold foods stay unspoiled longer? Can you integrate it into a pump stack without degradation? What reaction would a dwarf have to having to sleep in a freezing-cold bed, eat on a freezing cold table, ect.? Can it snuff fire?

Nethercap.

It's lovely... just... lovely.

Nethercap barrels are basically dwarven refrigerators.

If I actually gave thought to it, marble. I imagine my fortress made of marble as something similar to ancient Greece, with amazing statues and pillars and the likes.  :P

I thought cobaltite was regular blue, not quite candy-colored, but lighter than kimberlite and the like.

Hmmmm, tough to say. Microcline does look kind of nice, looks like ice to me. Bauxite is nice for the blood-look. Obsidian too is really nice... and marble... really anything but like, siltstone or something.

Or any stone that comes out brown, like wood. I once thought of making my castle out of gold but that fortress got killed by goblins...
