Enemy of the State
« on: October 06, 2011, 05:55:25 pm »

For some strange reason, my brewer refuses to brew beer. This caused my fort to dip to 0 drinks without me noticing at first [it's still in it's infantile stages, just a mere 18 dwarves so far]. The farm as well as food stockpile are right by the still, and my stonecrafter just dropped off 20 rock pots, empty and ready to promote alcoholism... but he just won't do it. The labor is enabled and everything.

He was convicted of being a traitor and summarily executed, because my fisherdwarf [who hasn't done a damn thing so far] had no problem brewing beer when I told him to. He went right about giving us something to drink. My question, however, is what would cause this? Is there a reason one dwarf just wouldn't do something? He wasn't 'on break', he had 'No job'. He wasn't busy in the fields, and everything was available. I just wanna know what may have caused this so that in the future, elf spies and traitors can be weeded out sooner.

MY question is how did you execute him?

You may want to see if you accidentally assigned your dwarf to a barrow that didn't have the stills in it. Other than that IDK.

He 'walked the plank' [retractable drawbridge] over a very, very, very deep hole.

Disk he have the brewing labor turned on? Are you sure? A little hard to check now, so it's going to be pretty hard to debug.

Have them killed. Nothing solves a problem quite as effectively as simply having it killed.

Yes, he had it enabled. I was very thorough before deciding to off an alcohol magician.

Did you remember to set your plump helmets (or other plants) to brew in the kitchen screen?

By any chance did the Still's building material get forbidden?

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

Didn't use burrows until I killed him, plump helmets are used only for brewing, and I did not forbid the still. Like I said, the fisherdwarf had no problems picking up the brewer's slack once I turned it on for him.

I think he just tried to go on strike. Silly dissention.

Maybe... maybe he wanted to promote abstinence...

BURN THIS FORT DOWN NOW! It has been touched by the hand of evil!!!

Dumb question but did he have access to the still? As in no pathing restrictions or stuck in a restricted area? Cut away from the still perhaps?

Just out of curiosity, did you check his personality?  Maybe he was just lazy and unmotivated.
