Grim. I personally despise Apple products and their marketing with a passion, but Steve himself was a cool guy, who knew how to get his audience interested.

Also, my friend posted a link to a news article about it, and the thumbnail was the Microsoft logo. I don't know whether to laugh or sigh.

Not only the chairman of Apple, but also of Pixar (and later, the majority shareholder of the Walt Disney Company). An interesting man to be sure.

Well damn, that was fast.  Didn't he just step down from acting CEO for his health like a month ago?

I bet he and Bill Gates had some crazy tontine bet that Bill just won, intellectual property rights to integrated monochrome displays or something.

Seriously. Either he was working right up to the end, or it advanced on him rapidly.

You know what they say though. People hang on until they no longer have a reason to.

End of an era. The Apple ][ was the first computer I ever laid my tiny little 5-year old hands on, and my life was irrevocably changed as a result.

Requiescat in pace.

Requiescat in pace, Steve. He's in that big Apple Store in the sky now.

I've known he was probably on his way out for a while, it's not a huge surprise this happened.

... I just checked apple's stocks, and I would have figured they would have dropped, but while they opened quite low, they actually rose quite a bit today.
I wonder what that says about his death.

Bright lights, big puffy white clouds, no physical exertion.  He'll feel right at ergonomic home.

Stocks are an incredibly finnicky thing, but remember Apple is just coming off a new product reveal that despite it's mediocrity will make probably several hundred million in profit.

I think the hit is much less than what it would have been, if the reins of Apple had not been passed on to Tim Cook. He probably spent many, many, many hours telling him how to run Apple well, and also what to do in case of his death.

Considering that news of his death didn't really break until after the markets closed in the US, *and* they had a product announcement today? It says absolutely nothing.
