So, how 'bout some Evolution?
« on: October 05, 2011, 05:35:26 pm »

Given the premature demise of RabbidHare's rebirth of Evolution: Not a debate, a forum game, I was wondering if someone is interested in hosting one. Of course, it wouldn't have to go by any of the previous renditions of the rules or anything. It definitely needs some additional revision to streamline the game a bit, but I think that the game itself has promise. I'm too busy to run one, but I would really like to play one. I'm sure that I'm not alone. Of course- requesting a forum game to be hosted is somewhat odd, but hey! At least it gets done. ;D

Here's a link to most previous editions of the game, courtesy of micelus:

So. Anyone up for it?

The main problem with the Evolution games is that the rules are rather vague, which would make running such a game rather difficult if you had trouble coming up with rules. The exception here is the Evolution Lite games, since everything except for the trait levels is explained in the rules - in other words, once the GM accepts a certain trait as being within a certain sphere and level, everyone knows what it does. I would like to help revise the rules, but I am currently not sure if I will be able to run a game effectively in the near future.

Mildly confused, weren't you already running an evolution game? Why start a new one when you can just continue what your currently doing?

Ah, no. See, this is an entirely different concept; they just have similar names. Evolution: Origins is a suggestion game with the single cell. This one is a multiplayer game where everyone starts with a different race and adapt to their environment. It's similar in a loose sense of the word. And I want to join one, not start one.

I remember seeing a similar game to the evolution games, it can be found here.
Also, I think I might be able to run a game like Evolution Lite.

Hm. E-Lite does seem to be the most viable for a game.

Alright, I think I should be able to get started in the next 30 hours. I have a few questions though:
  • What should I use to make a hex map?
  • I am planning on making a few rule changes to Evolution Lite. Should I run them by you people or just put them up when I start?

It would be nice if you posted the revised rules, just so we could see the changes.
