True, but that's only dwarf leather or bone. I'm talking about a whole, living baby encircling that scepter.

What happens if a dwarf gives birth in the middle of a mood?

The baby will wander off aimlessly (as unattented babies are wont to do) and the mother will continue to work on the artifact. Once the artifact is completed, she should immediately Seek Infant and pick it up, assuming it hasn't gotten itself killed (e.g. by jumping into a pool of water or a deep pit). The same thing happens with Sleep - giving birth does not cause the mother to wake up.

Incorrect. I can confirm multiple cases of the mother giving birth while asleep and then cancelling sleep to seek infant.
