I've never driven a manual transmission car, though I know in theory how to do so. I don't see the appeal but to each his own.

Well, for starters, a proficient stickshift driver is more manly.  ;)

more control over the car giveing;
1: better Fuel economy
2:they generally weigh less than comparable automatics so are faster to start.
3:more gears so you get better use of the engine's power band.

4: automatic is see as what you use if you cant drive a manual transmission (i.e. some with an impaired arm or leg will find it difficult or impossible to safely drive a manual)

Agree, plus that's about the LAST thing *I* want to see from this kind of game - author spending valuable development time on useless graphics.

I realize (or hope) that you're kidding but I don't judge my masculinity or 'manliness' by how well I can operate a vehicle.

The only one of these that interests me even slightly is the better fuel economy. In response to #4, it isn't that I 'cannot' drive a manual; its that I don't care to do so. For the same reason that I use a washing machine rather than manually wash my clothes. Certainly hand washing works better, is more water efficient with less wasted detergent and is probably easier on the clothing. I don't care, I toss that shit in a tub and press go.

Fortunately I also don't really care what others think about me so long as they do not infringe upon my perfect little illusory world. :P

I've only ever driven a moped, with a theoretical maximum speed of 45 km/h, or 28 mph, but which in reality goes over 55 km/h, or 34 mph.

If there's one thing that pisses me off is me driving at 55km/h in a 40 km/h area, because some guy is about a meter away from me.

Also overtaking me in the said scenario, with several other cars on the opposing lane, about a hundred meters away.

My grammar seems to be leaving me, but yeah.
 Don't do that.

those points about automatic transmissions are pretty much invalid now...
1. Fuel economies are pretty much the same between both now
2. Eh?
3. And they've generally got the same amount of ratios as manual gearboxes now

Besides, dual clutch gearboxes (which will just be "automatics" to anyone else anyway) seem to be the future now anyway. They're basically a normal manual gearbox with an electronic clutch and gear selector,

There is one reason why you'd want a manual gearbox over an automatic gearbox however.. skids!

I just don't like my car deciding when it's time to shift. Nor do I really want some technological solution to giving me the same thing in an automatic transmission, like performance modes or any of that crap.

Well the beauty of DSG is that you can easily wire in flappy paddle gear changers, but then have a button press to put it back into auto mode for when your granny/mother/sister etc drives it.

Manual and automatic have their advantages. Driving long distances in a manual SUCKS HAIRY MONKEY BALLS. I know this because I have done it.

That said, manual is a LOT more fun to drive - if you're at a stoplight and the light turns green, it is a lot of fun to be across the intersection in a little 4-cylinder Subaru before the guy in the 6-cylinder Mustang next to you realizes the light is green.

what's so bad about driving long distances in a manual? you really shouldn't be changing gears a lot unless its a winding road... in which case your already having to steer anyway...

just plonk it in 5th and away you go.
