Technical Difficulties
« on: October 04, 2011, 04:01:43 pm »

So I'm not sure if this is the proper section of the forum to post this in, but here goes anyway...
So I recently downloaded and installed the latest Radeon Catalyst drivers (11.9 to be precise) and all of the sudden running DF causes my screen to start tearing like mad... But the weird thing is that it only happens when the window is either full-screened, or just above a certain size... Rolling back the driver install is kind of a last resort, as it renders another game completely unplayable, and DF is currently playable, just... Weird. Anybody have any theories as to what is going on here?

Using a Radeon 5870, and dual displays, running windows 7. Can include other hardware information if it is deemed necessary.

the new driver probably just broke something in opengl that df uses to render, try some different render modes (2d, vbo etc.) as some might still work fine

Bah, seems to be pretty universal across the different render modes... Although I found a nice happy medium where sizing the window to about 2/3rds of my screen doesn't cause the flicker, but gives me a decent FoV.

@Thwarven
Impossible. I would never touch an ID software game.

D: Why not? They make good games (I've even heard good things about Rage when you get past the not-workingness)

Radeon drivers are just bad at OpenGL.
I remember every new version caused some sort of new graphics bug in at least one of several OpenGL games I play.

I suggest trying other driver version or randomly changing settings in the ATI Control Panel until it gets better.
