When digging warm stone, how to stop designation removal?
« on: October 04, 2011, 05:49:52 am »

When I am digging above a magma pool, being perfectly safe, the stone is still warm. I know how to remove the 'pause' and 'center' part of the warning message, but how do I stop the game from cancelling the designations, making every square a pain in the ass?

I could'nt figure this out, but the cancellations made me once so numb against them until I forced a fatal digging order into a cavern lake, flooding the lower areas of my fortress.

When you make a wide mining front, you can at least make some progress but for this 1-tile-wide-passages, I really don't know. I find it quite annoying and avoid it.

I don't know why it does that...

It should only be marked as 'warm' if you're about to build stairs or a channel down into the magma.

Anyway, there's a way to turn it off. I just can't remember it right now.

Something that works for me is using DFhack reveal tool. The game won't interrupt the digging every time since it thinks you've already uncovered the tile.
This won't work well if there is a circus in your world though.

Even if I trigger Hell, they won't do me harm since they don't have an open route to me, right?

Edit your post, don't talk about that openly, no one likes spoilers.

Also isn't not the clowns that do the damage it's the lag.

revealing the circus wakes up the clowns, even if there's no way for them to join the party in the dining room. your fps will suffer as they mill about in a giant blob of stacked clowns (you know the trick where a lot of clowns come out of a small car? it's the same, but without a car and a lot more clowns), waiting for you to clear the way.

There's not a single person on this forum who doesn't know what a Demon is.
By the time someone comes around who DOESN'T know what it is, this thread will be dead. Don't split someones skull over it.

If you're using applications to get rid of annoyances already, you could kill off the initial wave with the magical powers of..What was the name of that mod..

Ah, my dwarven heart beats with fierce pride for this.  I can't take it anymore!  I have to go do something profound.

DFLiquids? Spawn water and magma above the clowns, watch as hilarity ensues.

No, Necro910, "nothing but magma" won't work...

Don't worry, I support use of water as a catalyst.

For those problems when magma just doesn't work... just add water!

Since I didn't see it mentioned, the default "reveal" function in the newest version of DFHack keeps the dangerous bottom layers hidden, so you can safely unpause with it active.  I wouldn't recommend keeping the map revealed permanently, though, because you can run into problems with (cavern and magma) discovery triggers and, if you decide to unreveal later, you can run into "unexplorable black space" issues (revflood can usually fix these, at least).
