Hyper-valuable... food !
« on: October 03, 2011, 07:47:08 pm »

Good day folks !

I've been experimenting a bit, with goblins suddently at peace (WTF seriously ? I'm just about to kill elven merchants just to get some action here...) and I've found that my legendary cook's longland flour or quarry bush leave roasts sell for ludicrous amounts ! For example, 18 quarry bush roasts sell for 4104* and 19  longland flour roast roughly 4978*.

I'm seriously thinking about opening a fast-food caravan stop here !

I'm still thinking it's a bit broken. I can't fathom the number of rock trinkets i'd have to sell to amount the same price.

Try using dwarven syrup.  It's not hard to get roasts worth 10,000+.

This is a known bug/feature with prepared meals, where a large ingredient stack results in an insane price, mostly (ab)used with relation to Quarry Bush Leaves.  I don't use it personally, preferring to just keep digging more stockpile space for the gigantic overflow of food and drink my fort makes while I sell rock crafts.

However if you're going to clean out caravans with food, building a drive-through trade depot seems the stylish way to do it.

i have the same problem with glass. i pump out a lot of blocks, so whenever i make a few serrated disks for traps i always wind up with a few masterpieces at 4-5k apiece

Aside from that, being rational is not only optional, but is frowned upon.  We hate elves.  We kill for socks.  We sacrifice nobles.  We love kobolds.

A FB meat stack or a whale meat stack, combined with sweet pod syrup, quarry bush leaves, and probably more syrup, can generate some insanely valuable stacks.  Anything that creates a large stack of edible goods, such as butchering a whale, causes a single high-value ingredient to suddenly become a mountain of high value ingredients.

Aren't such ingredients incredible heavy?

Then it can't be butchered.  I haven't dealt with them recently, but metallic beings tend to avoid being butchered.  Same with snow and ice and fire.

The toughest part of butchering a FB is dragging the darn corpse to the butcher's shops before the darn thing rots.
