I'll count the water as a seperate route, along with the forest (I really am hoping to catch a certain something in there) but if 104 continues on the other side of the forest, no, I cannot catch anything else there.

Yeah, 104 is both north and south of the forest. As for Petalburg Woods, are you hoping for a shroomish or a slakoth?

Shroomish.  Even if I found a slakoth I wouldn't use it for both story reasons and personal reasons.  Expect an update in a few hours, along with that Wurmple evolving if it doesn't die (haven't played ahead yet)

Guys, I have a dilema.  The first pokemon I found in Petalburg Woods is a Silcoon - an evo of the Wurmple line.  However, I already have Dustox.  Should I count this guy or keep looking?

I'll leave it up to you.

Another note:  It's level 5.  And it only knows harden.  I REALLY don't wanna grind this thing up to 10 if I catch it.

I named it Vishnu after a bit of consideration and thought to myself...route 104 isn't that dangerous.  I could camp out here instead of heading back into Petalburg with...him.  I nodded to myself and after a bit of a struggle, I got the tent set up in a small clearing in the grass about halfway between Petalburg Woods and Petalburg town.  I settled onto the ground and gathered up a few dry sticks and some rocks to try and build a campfire - if Zippo didn't beat me to it.  My little bird saw what I was doing and went ahead of me, plucking up sticks and slowly but surely building a small 'house' out of them like in manuals.  Then with a puff of smoke and the stench of sulphur, he lit it on fire just as the sun was setting against the waves.  I smiled to myself and let Vishnu out of her ball to introduce her to the rest of the team.

Zippo was refusing to leave my side for an instant and he regarded the Wurmple coldly - just turning up his head and blowing out a small puff of flames at her.  Octavia was looking at her like you might look at a science project...or a snack.  And Fluffy was...rolling in the dirt a few feet away and letting out some happy barks.  I sighed to myself and reached out to pet the worm as it hissed softly - making Zippo bristle his feathers at it.  I grumbled and knocked Zippo on the back of the head - and the reaction was instant.  He looked up at me and tears filled his eyes as he went off to sulk next to the tent.  I let him - after all, you have to be nice to new friends.  I tried to pet her again and succeeded in running my finger down her hard shell as she blinked up at me.

With a smile on my face (and after making sure Octavia realized this one wasn't for 'practice' like the others) I curled up in my sleeping bag and went to bed for the night, just listening to the surf crash against the shore a mile or so away and breathing the salty air deep.  It was...nice.  Nicer than the house we lived in in Saffron, actually...I could get used to this.

Nothing happened during the night except for one thing - at some point during the night, all four of my little friends managed to climb into or onto the bag with me.  Fluffy was draped across my legs, Octavia was curled against my middle, Vishnu was clinging to the surface of the bag along my chest while Zippo rested his head next to mine.  It was easily the best way I ever woke up.

I got up slowly and stretched before a slow grin spread across my face.  It was time to get to work with breakfast and time to train these little guys.

Well...breakfast in a sense at least.  I don't think I'll ever order Zippo's 'quick-roasted Marill' in a restaurant...really fatty and thick.  Filling though with plenty for all of us.  And Octavia's 'hunting' method didn't damage the body at all, leaving a lot for us to eat...except for Vishnu.  I glanced around after a bit, trying to spot the newest member and found her eating the leaves off a bush and spitting them out in a wad of white gunk and before long she started spinning them around her - tighter and thicker and a light burst forth from her middle.

Vishnu was evolving.  My mouth dropped open and soon the light cleared, leaving a purplish cocoon resting just next to the bushes with thick red patches on one end that resembled eyes...it was a Cascoon.

The pokedex chimed in as I was simply staring slackjawed at her - making me jolt and shake my head clear.



As I stepped forward to get my newly evolved friend, a Poochyena rushed out at it - probably driven by the sight of the light and investigating.  It leapt out at it and before any of us could do anything, a burst of white spikes fired from the cocoon to embed themselves firmly into it's chest.  It fell to the ground a few inches away from Vishnu and stepped forward a few times after struggling to it's feet - then it vomited and collapsed into a heap.  I was a bit afraid but I had to do it...I stepped forward and looked at Vishnu, ignoring the horrible odor coming from the area.  She didn't seem to notice me, but she didn't shoot the spikes at me.  I gulped and then glanced at the Poochyena...the area where the spikes jammed in was completely rotted, making the area around it smell horrible.  I grabbed a stick and nudged the Poochyena's body and it caved in on itself like the entire inside was melted.  Of course...that's how Wurmple and it's evolutions eat.  They sting and then suck the melted remains out of the wound.  Not a way anyone wanted to go.

I gathered up Vishnu and stepped away from the corpse to set her by my tent then I sighed and steeled myself.  This would...be nauseating.  I was going to try and dispose of it's body to keep the route clean and to keep disease low - but Zippo had a better idea.  My little friend rushed forward and slowly but surely, used his flames to burn the body to ash leaving only the slight sulfurous smell left.

I nodded to them and gathered them around as best I could - Fluffy was digging in the dirt and not really paying attention to me, so I just addressed the rest.

Uh...everyone.  We're gonna be staying here a few days while we wait for Vishnu to finish evolving.  I'll help all of you train, get stronger, and uh...uh...

Octavia stepped forward then and tilted her head at me.  She pressed her tiny hand against my ankle and I felt something press through my mind before she gave a few nods and went to touch each member of my team on the head in turn.  After each touch they all just nodded up at me as if they understood.  Did...Octavia just transfer my thoughts to them?

I was just starting to think about what that could mean later when Fluffy barked up at me kinda muffled.  I looked down at her and she had a...vial or something in her mouth.  I reached down and she plopped it into my hand with a few wags of her tail.  I looked at it...this was an X-attack.  A powerful 'rage' drug that induces your pokemon to get stronger and stronger during combat.  They were illegal everywhere...but they still got used.  I shuddered and just stuck it in my pack well away from the other medicines to make sure I didn't mix it up with something else I needed.


Octavia is holding an Oran berry I gave her a while back but forgot to mention.  Just a little insurance due to her low HP.

It had been a few days.  Vishnu's cocoon was swelling more and more every day and we were all just relaxing, training, and having fun.  Fluffy brought me another X-attack which made me believe that this was being shipped to somewhere in Petalburg...I thought I should tell dad, but I really didn't wanna go back and see him.  The authorities would deal with it, I'm sure of it.

Uh....let's go for a walk.  And see what there is to see here.

They all gathered around me and I scooped up Vishnu to hold against my chest while we moved and they took their normal positions.  Fluffy leading the way, Zippo right next to me, and Octavia following behind.

Zippo was sticking by my leg like glue and wouldn't let anything get close as we explored around to see what all was on this route...aside from a small cabin near the shoreline with a decent sized boat, along with the normal travellers nothing much was here.  I sighed to myself and looked down at the cocoon cradled in my arms as Octavia was...'playing' in the back behind me.  I didn't know what she was doing, but nothing was attacking us and none of my team was hurt.  I would just ignore the sounds and keep moving.  And always take a different path back to the tent than the one I followed out.

As we walked back to the campsite Vishnu started shifting and squirming in my grasp in ways that made her painful to hold.  I quickly set her on the ground and stepped back several feet, wiping my slightly bloody hands on my shorts as the cocoon on the ground literally shredded itself open and a purple and green blur shot out of it and into the air.  Before I knew what was happening, Vishnu's new form settled onto my back with her wings folded against her side.  The dex chimed in as I craned my neck to try and get a better look at her.



Toxic powder from it's wings...uh...that didn't sound good.  I twisted around and managed to knock Vishnu from her perch and she seemed to understand my worries.  She flew away a few feet and flew hovered alongside me a few feet away while I nodded to her.  With that, we made our way back up to the camp and gathered everything up - but not before Fluffy gave me an antidote and a potion.  I pet the Zigzagoon and grinned at her as we made our way to Petalburg Woods, all of them in their normal 'guard' positions with Vishnu circling around us now to keep everything in sight.

As we entered, a Poochyena leaped from the undergrowth out as us and Fluffy dealt with it in an...odd way.  She stood up on her hind legs and used her tail to knock the Poochyena up on it's own, making it's eyes roll back into it's head. - then she absolutely slammed her head against it's own.  It stood there dazed for a moment - long enough for me to toss a pokeball at it and with a satisfying click, I had a new friend.  The dex was talking away while, as normal, I was wondering what to name it.

Since one of the first posts on here was a request to name a Poochyena either Rover or Maggie, it's getting named Rover.  Also:  Images I cut out for one reason or another.

Battle with this guy.  I don't think Fluffy headbutting four level 3 wurmple to death is really interesting.  It'd be repetitive to write and repetitive to read.


Got most of the team to level 10 aside from Zippo now.

I know I haven't really used Zippo much yet, but starter pokemon are SO much more powerful than the others at the beginning it isn't even funny.  And yes, Zippo's been using ember without actually knowing it, sue me.


I've never used a Dustox before, admittedly.  This was the evolution of Vishnu I was hoping for though, mainly because it learns psychic attacks while Beautifly doesn't.  No clue how long we'll be seeing her for.


I love Octavia.  I admit that freely.  I really can't wait till she learns Double Team though.  It is distressingly easy for her to lose half her health in one shot.


Fluffy has been shockingly useful.  Granted, I've literally never used a Zigzagoon for anything but an HM bitch so maybe I'm just seeing her differently right now.  I always just sent them to the Box when I got one to make room on my team for something else.  Headbutt is marvelous at this stage of the game, by the way.  Easy flinches, STAB, and no recoil damage.
