Bleh, stupid emulator ate the beginning screenies again.  Ah well, everyone knows what happens when you get the pokedex and the pokeballs.

Spoiler: Part 3.  Zigzagoon Caught! (click to show/hide)

I was a bit numb back at the lab.  Professor Birch...he asked me to help him...help him fill out the Pokedex.  I...didn't know what to say at first, so he asked me again.  He probably thought my silence was declining so he started to say that he'd find someone else but I yelled that I'd happily do it.  I'm...going on a journey.  Just like I've always wanted...

He gave me five pokeballs to go at my belt and the small red device...the pokedex.  He told me to go say good bye to my mother, which I happily did.  She was outside...and she looked mad.  She had forgotten I headed out.



She looked down and saw Zippo leaning against my leg - the little guy was kinda quiet for once...he normally just chirps and talks away at me, even though I don't know what he's saying.



She...didn't even notice him before when her eyes were glued to the tv.  After a bit of talking about what Professor Birch wanted and she agreed when she found out what I was gonna be doing...almost instantly.  She probably wanted me out of the house.  She gave me a pair of shoes to leave with - running shoes, in quite a bit better condition than my loafers.  They were a few sizes too big, and I knew they were her's...but she said something then that surprised me.





Dad...I'll get to see him on this trip...she turned around and walked into the house with a final goodbye, and I could almost swear there were tears going down her cheeks...but...that couldn't be right, she didn't like me cause I didn't like dad.

I tried to distract myself by checking the pokedex and seeing what it said about Zippo...



I had to laugh at the thought of this little guy spitting fire...then I remembered the wisps of flame I saw before, and I got a little bit scared.  But...he wouldn't hurt me...would he?


We passed a Wurmple on our way into that tiny town again...but we just let it be.  It hissed at us as we passed, and shot a few poison stings but it's aim was terrible.  It was forgotten by the time we got to the town.


I finally read the sign...Oldale town.  'Where things start off scarce.'


That...was a confusing town motto or whatever.

We went north into the picnic area again, I was hoping to find a pokemon...a new friend and companion.  I did.





I was nervous...and Zippo could tell.  So, he did what he wanted...the results weren't pretty.





It was laying in a pool of it's own blood, growling weakly at us...I threw a pokeball at it, just as Zippo went in to finish it off.  I rushed it to a pokemon center, Zippo following just behind and as I waited for it to heal it hit me...I just caught my first pokemon...but what was I gonna name it?

Update Complete!  What do you guys think?  And what should we name the little Zigzagoon?  (I was really hoping for a wingull...)

Is this the one where Zigzagoons find stuff after battles? Cuz that's always pretty awesome. I like Fluffy, but something like Klepto could be fun .

Sadly, Pickup is much less OP than it was in Ruby/Sapphire. I think Emerald is the first one where Pickup's loot is affected by the mon's level.

And yes, Pickup is effected by the level in this version.  I'll probably still get some nice berries and possibly a few TMs though.

EDIT:  I looked up the table and I have the oppurtunity for some Nice Things.  Granted, it'll really only come to play if I get Fluffy to level 20+ which may or may not happen depending on how things go.

Most of what I can get is kinda useless due to my rules though, no rare candies.

She gave me back my new friend with a smile on her face.  I think she knew I just caught her...I called her out of the ball and gazed down at the happy little zigzagoon.  There...didn't look like there were any hard feelings.  She shook herself like a dog and let out a cry up at me...she was asking for a name, I thought.

  Uh...Fluffy?

She made a bunch of noises at the name and I think she liked it!  Maybe things are gonna go better from now on...but I had to get my team under control first.  I decided to take them out and go training.  Heading north to the picnic spot again, I found a new one...



It was a Poochyena!  I could catch this one too!  I tried to get my pokeballs out while Zippo stared it down, when I bumped my hand against my pokedex.  It spoke up, surprisingly.

  Attention Trainer: Alison.  You are under breach of Law Number 32-B.  Due to a rash of Pokemon Thieves, no trainer is permitted to catch more than one pokemon per route.  Violators will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

Tch...yeah right.  No one payed attention to that law but...dad was a gym leader.  I'd be one of the few they check for that...besides...don't my pokeballs automatically register where their tentant was caught?  Crap!

I sighed and told Zippo to use Focus Energy...which surprisingly, he did.  He got hit by the Poochyena tackling him, but he stood his ground...I told him to scratch it, and he did!  His claws raked down the little dog's side and drew a lot of blood...the focus energy worked!  It made it go deeper!  The Poochyena passed out on the ground and I grinned to myself...this was gonna be easier than I thought.  Time to train.

That's really all that happened.  I spammed pokemon until Fluffy was level 5 and had a bit of survivability...then something else happened.

I went west to the next route and saw something moving in the grass almost immediately...something small...and green...could it be?


I literally gaped when I saw this.  And nearly cried.  I love this line and it was the first one I saw too!

Fluffy was pretty lax about attacking so it didn't take long for this...especially since I managed to find one so young...



The Pokedex chimed in as it went into the ball...I was already trying to think of what to name it...

I am not naming shit stuff that I would hate seeing on the screen, sadly.  Also it's synchronize which is kinda bad...but still, I got a fucking Ralts!  Bold Nature...I cannot remember if that's any good.

-Attack, + defense. Not that good (it'll still die to anything with attack power), but it doesn't hurt anything. Also, remember that having a mon with synchronize at the front of the party makes it so that half of the random encounters have the same nature as it.
