Don't most Scifi Shows say that they recycle the air???
So? Most SciFi shows have Aliens and weapons that disintegrate people, too. Then again, some choose not to.
Don't most Scifi Shows say that they recycle the air???
In 5 thousand years, I THINK we'll figure out how to recycle air.
Or how to continue decomposing. Whichever works best.
Via Stella is set in 2500, I think
Well there is two ways to recycle air.
A: Biodecks feeding the plants the CO2 discarded from humans (But how much would you need? per plant)
B: Using sexy awesome techongly to turn CO2 into Oxygen
Biodecks would require a bit more power than a light aircraft can spare, and I thought I may as well keep it in handy for the Capitals-only, so that it can take up an entire deck.
Technology is possible. They've already made an engine that runs on Oxygen, or something. So after 500 years, you'd expect it availabie in reverse. But still, adding a "Limited Oxygen Supply" adds another worry for you to handle, and another possible disaster event <3.
About this "air" thing, where does the "11000" come from ?
Other than that i have a few comments :
- we don't consume "air", we consume oxygen.
- your crew will die from CO2 poisoning before running out of oxygen.
- if you have CO2 scrubbers, they will lose performance over time due to O2 rarefaction and will die before the O2 levels reach 0.
- if you use O2 tanks, you can store oxygen at up to 700 bar with our current technology (i think).
- a human being consumes about 500 liters of O2 per day (about 700g).
- 1 cubic meter of O2 @ 700 bar = 700 000 liters @ 1 bar = enough O2 for one human for 1400 days (weights almost a metric ton though).
Edit : i wrote this assuming that you're not using O2 tanks and are only relying on the same ambient air for the whole trip.
11,000 is the average that humans (non-excitedly) draw in, so I've used it as a base.
- We breathe in Air, and we consume the oxygen. Our lips don't magically filter the air as it arrives at the
gap of Rohan gape of our mouths - that's what our lungs are for!
- Touché, making CO2 Scrubbing Equipment another addition to the Ship Management duties.
- Ergo giving maintenance at least one more job for them to worry themselves about.
- With our current technology, yes. Via Stella being Science-fiction means that this argument point is mute.
- I quoted it at 11,000-something. Admittedly, from my first source, and not cross-checked. But I'm going to cheap out with the "Science-fiction" escape card on this one.
- Ok.
FTL capabilities, or strictly in-system travel?
Will there be some sort of combat engine?
How many different locations are you hoping for in the first testing release?
Will there be any sort of ship customization?
* I don't know what FTL is, precisely, but seeing as it's linked with "Strinctly in-system Travel", I'm going to say we're looking at possible Alpha Centauri colonisation.
* Yes.
* We want to release the game as a playable whole, as opposed to mini-releases.
* Yes. The limits of this have yet to be discussed.
