Rise of Nations. What with the AI who can ignore pop caps and commerce limits at-will and has dangerously retarded diplomacy tactics and all.

Recent game, Egypt and Greece were allied, I(Spanish) was allied with America for awhile, but after they got nuked a few times and demanded ludicrous resources, I ditched them. Then:

Lysandus of Sparta(Greeks): I demand tribute! (800 Wealth)
Me(Spanish): Oh fine . *pays tribute 3 seconds later*
Lysandus of Sparta(Greeks): Too late! DECLARE WAR!
Me(Spanish): Dude, wtf!
Lysandus of Sparta(Greeks): Madness? THIS! IS! SPAR! TUH!
*NUCLEAR LAUNCH DETECTED*

And yes, he took the money.

And in a previous game, two allied players were bombarding my coast, although I was trading at least kill-for-kill with Cannons with them. Then one of them drops a huge army(which would have put them over the pop limit at the Information Age, and it was Enlightenment Age at the latest). So I try to declare peace:

Them: Okay, we can have peace if you give us 900 Metal. (About all I had, because of the Cannons I was building.)
Me: Fine, fine, here's your metal.
Them: You know what? We want... 4400 Metal!!

When the entire Catholic Church is controlled by a nation that you NEED to defeat to win the game, while every nation around you demands tribute and then declares war after you pay, cluster f-bombs are sure to follow.

Sounds like you've been neglecting religion. Sometimes I get caught up in the intrigue and warfare I forget to train priests and build churches, and suddenly I'm excommunicated and being attacked by former allies. ;_;

I was building churches in every town, though I wasn't training many priests. Too busy trying to finally defeat the Scots and build a toe-hold on the mainland. The fact that I devoted most of my unit production to a unit that sounded great but was actually crap (and thus, needed to replace losses) didn't help.

Men of War: Assault Squad. I buy the heaviest tank I can, set it at the front out of view of AT gun fire and infantry with AT grenades. A StuG or Panzer II rolls along and 1-hits it. Every. Fucking. Time.

I eventually stopped buying those money sinks and instead starting spending my points on the much more entertaining and cost-effective Bonzai charges.
