Smooth floor question
« on: September 30, 2011, 06:54:26 pm »

I have a situation in which my aqueduct, which is regularly flooded and then drained, continuously grows cavern moss, mushrooms, and other junk from the cavern layers.  I don't want this to happen.  I understand that I can prevent things from growing on my muddy stone floors by placing constructions there, such as floors or roads, but that is time-consuming and resource intensive.

So, my question is, will simply smoothing the stone floor of my aqueduct prevent things from growing there?  Thanks for your time.

Smoothed floors will still grow plants if muddied.

Constructed floors, or buildings such as roads, will stop plants from growing.  If you really want to be cheap, designating a stockpile there will also stop plants from growing.

Roads are:

 * Cheap
 * Fast
 * Can be admired
 * Count towards king arrival
 * Prevent plant growth.
 * Decent training for architects.

Don't shrubs and saplings still grow on stockpiles though? I remember using that trick once but I'm certain it didn't work to stop all growth altogether, but trees cannot grow that much is certain.

Correct.  Shrubs and saplings will still grow, you just won't see them.  The saplings will grow until they're just short of maturing, then stop.  If you remove the stockpile, those saplings will then instantly become full-grown trees.

... and can be destroyed by building destroyers. I in my case prefer constructed floors in dangerous or risky terrain. (Thanks going to Sphalerite again for helping me with this issue)
