I changed the dude's name because I forgot it. 'Simon Usuf' now. Also the post got long again, sorry.
Someone with a hammer was bashing at the edge of her thoughts.
A hammer struck down the nails of a mahogany coffin, the sharp noise changing in timbre as she shook herself awake amidst a folder of news clippings and photographs. The clock read 1pm. She had somewhere to be, and grabbed her jacket from the coat-hook.
The sound came again and Van realised there was someone at the door.
It was unlocked and opened to two uniformed men, police detectives. Van recalled meeting one of them when she had been to give her version of the events that night.
"Officers." She straightened. "Did you find something?"
"Good afternoon. I'm afraid not. We want to ask you some more questions about the night you found Mr Usuf."
"I've already told you everything I know."
The officer next to the detective gave her a strange look then that she couldn't draw away from. She noticed his uniform was adorned with a strange symbol that she hadn't seen before. Special division? The force holding her gaze seemed to break just as she noticed it and she shook her head. Probably still tired.
"We just have to go over a few things." the detective said. "It won't take two minutes."
"I'm actually just leaving, can we talk in the corridor?"
"It's really only one thing. We have reason to believe your friend was consorting with some criminal groups, likely terrorists we have been tracking."
"Terrorists?"
"Yes. I must ask again if Mr Usuf confided anything about these groups to you. Did you know about his dealings with them?"
What the hell did you get yourself mixed up in, Simon? The other officer was looking at her strangely again.
"Miss?"
Lie.She swallowed. "No, he never said anything. This is the first I've heard of it... terrorists?"
The police officer seemed to relax. "Nothing to concern yourself about. Well, we've taken up enough of your time." They disappeared into a marked car.
Conspiracy or not... something weird is going on. She hurried to her destination.
