Not neccesarily because we're completely blind. It's just for style.

OR, we are like Daredevil. We have amazing hearing and make annoying click noises for echo location.

I don't like the hands part. But I like the click noises and the third eye.

Imma just go with a blend of the votes:

..Because you have a third eye, right on your forehead. Nobody else can see it, and you are the only one who knows it's there. You're also blessed with supernatural hearing, able to "hear" your surroundings even if you can't see anything, even things that normally make no sound.

Now that all the description is out of the way, what do you do next?

You look around your cell. Not much - a pile of straw for a bed, and a little table with a dish in it for food. You briefly think back in attempt to remember the guards' schedule, but all you can remember is that you will be fed soon because you never really attempted to predict the guards' movements.
You wonder if you could fashion a shank out of a chicken bone with your shaving razor. Too bad there aren't any bones in here. But maybe some other thing to fashion one out of...
You briefly ponder whether you could pry the bars off of the window when you realize there actually isn't one.
