Make a wooden hammer, they look nicer than wooden swords imo.

Step One: Forget to add seam allowance.

Step Two: Fluffy Wamblers for Fun and Profit.

Step Three: Straps are for more than just BDSM.

Finally: Mediocre Success!

It needs to be wider, right now the grip of the pliers tends to slip off the mount and rest against the palm, which is what I wanted to avoid.  The straps also need work, as these are non-elastic it makes it a tad difficult to make them tight.  I'll probably use bits of chainmail knowledge to hook them tighter.  Also the loop around the thumb should probably just loop the thumb, like a ring, instead, as I found this setup to be a bit unreliable.  The straps will become less of an issue once it's made wider, though, so I'm not terribly concerned with that.  I may also use ribbon next time instead of chord, as I found the chord to be tricky to sew down.

Terrible quality, stuffed with 1 cotton ball that was ripped in half so that it would fit lengthwise, it fails to supply adequate padding to my palm.  But I learned a lot about sewing, this was my first attempt to make something with cloth.  I'll remake it, and it'll be awesome.

Functional and nice. I like it.

I always like to see the creations of people with more time and motivation than myself.

It's not currently functional, but I'm learning so the next version will be.  I'm also thinking that corduroy might be a better choice than cotton balls.

Two words.

Thermal Plastic.

More words to explain what I mean :)

You want a formable substance that is firm enough when you are done forming it to stand up to grip pressures.  The thermal plastics used as removable hard casts are great for that.  Make your shaped item, let it cool in the shape you want it in, then drill some holes and mount padding and straps.

Physical therapists are a good source for scraps of this stuff in the size that you seem to be needing here.  I'm not sure how easy the stuff is to get otherwise.  I had a supply of it at one point due to the after effects of an unfortunate argument with a hydraulic cylinder, but it's long gone by now, and no clue where it went to.

Another option might be to simply buy a old, used welding glove from some welder and cut off the parts you don't want, and use the cut-off parts to thicken the parts of the glove that cover your hand where you want to protect it.

Rawhide welders gloves.  Rawhide is awesome stuff.

Always an option, and may be needed for working stainless or titanium, but for now a few sheets of cloth or 1-2 of thick Cordula/canvas should be enough to cushion.  The main thing is that I don't need a hard thing to use.  Like... if I wrapped tape around the handle, then I'd just have a fractionally larger hard surface digging into my palm.  An actual cushioning material is needed, and especially something cool and breathable since I live in hot climate.

14awg 6.7mm ID aluminium, 14 awg 6.4mm ID EPDM black rubber, and 14awg 5mm ID alumium edging. Looks pretty good I think :)

People seem to like this style, I sold three like it at the weekend!

Probably stay away from the rawhide glove then, but the thermal plastic sheets might be what you need.  Having a firm surface with padding behind it might be better than just padding, because the firm surface forces the pressure to spread away from a point source.

Buddy commissioned a tear-drop pendant from me. This is the prototype, gonna be remaking it in anodised aluminium.

@Blargityblarg

That's so hot. Is there a tutorial for that kind of stuff or did you just come up with it?

That is a good piece with simple components, do you mind if I try it myself and play around with different ring sizes for it? I've been making chainmaille on and off for a few months now to keep off the stress from university and I'd love to expand from just making sheets and basic chains. Practicing with different sized rings in a piece would definately expand possibilities... no chainmaille pun intended.

The major shape of the pendant is just Byzantine chain; it's just linked to other rings that I happened to have in sizes that worked, with the big-ass one in the middle supporting the lot.

Most of the rings there are 4mm ID 16g (all gauges are in standard, not American) copper, the big middle ring is 11/32" ID 14g aluminium and the large rings on the sides I'm not sure of, as I got them as part of a ring mix. They're 16g, but I'd have to guess they're about 8mm ID? In any case, their ID doesn't matter as long as it fits together.

Alright, I'll have to see if I can make due with my 5/16, 1/4, and 3/16 rings. I've found just about everything in here amazing, and hopefully I'll have something to show you all in a bit. I've been working in 5/16 16ga to get used to it, but I guess 1/4 for euro 4 in 1 would look much better. Other than that the only trouble I have is finding non-galvy wire, because for some reason I just feel wrong paying for shipping.

Anyhow, I hope some more crafts(wo)manship is posted soon. It's always enjoyable seeing what everyone has been making.

Eh, I haven't done too much metalwork recently. I did however make some (crude) log benches... refining my tactics on that however...
