it doesn't look like they could have pre-wovenbags, unless those scales have openings I don't see. My understanding of it was that the scales are just punched from metal with no openings, and they are connected with different rings, but I could be wrong since I haven't really looked into it.

@silverskull If you look at the very top row of scales in that picture, they do have openings. They can be woven with rings, but in that pic they are woven with thread, which is perhaps why you didn't notice.

But if I'm misunderstanding what you're talking about, just ignore me  :-[.

are you talking about the punched holes? I knew about those, what I was saying is that each scale is a solid piece, you can't "open" a scale the way you would a ring, I don't think (again, I could be wrong). Girlinhat said she wondered if the bags came pre-woven, which would be possible if the scales "opened", but I don't know how you would do it if they didn't, and it appears that they don't.

You cannot "open" scales like you can rings, unless you cut a slit in the top.

Those bags are done by knitting, and as each knit is done a scale is worked onto the fabric.  Judging by the thickness of the knitting, it looks like no scales would actually touch the dice, so it might be nice if you had some really special dice, like gold plated or such.  But I imagine if you have gold plated dice then you've got a case for them.

Either way, scales are always "solid".  They're done with a metal punch that cuts and bends the metal.  There is no way to add or remove a scale without undoing the nearby thread/rings to get at it.

I'm thinking about opening an Etsy.  Any suggestions on a name?

I had to ask Wikipedia just what an 'Etsy' was. :P

As for names, well... Would you make it Dwarf Fortress themed at all? How about, 'From the Forge', or 'Born of Magma Creations'? I don't really know. 'The Armour of Ceilings'?

Not going for direct DF names, since this will be my 'all purpose' shop, but I wouldn't mind a homage.  If there's a fortress name that somehow embodies metal jewelry then that'll be ideal.

Why not just GirlInHat productions?

Mostly because none of it is actually olde.  Aluminum and byzantine sheet and rubber, all rather modern.  I may consider some name that includes "ring" or "round" or "weave" somehow, though I'm still in debate on that.

"2,000 rings to rule them all!"

Coming up with good names has never been my strong point.  :P

If you're opening up a shop on Etsy, I'd definitely consider buying some crafts (when I have money of course)

You can already buy stuff if you want, just email/PM me and wire through Paypal.  I'm always open to commission!

Also, I'm now thinking "Fifteen Hundred Rings" as a name.  No particular reason.
