Laythe at the Bar.

"I reckon, the one I'm thinking of. If he wants to get in touch with you, he will. Otherwise.. Well. Look elsewhere. But I bet you'll have poor luck finding any mages."

--------
The Border Campaign
Action: Tala covertly sends out some of her personal guard to hide in the area, and watch messengers coming in and out of Timothys camp. If spotted, they are tracked to wherever they are going, and the guard reports back to Tala personally.

[4] Your guard turns out to be quite stealthy. Unfortunately, it does not appear Timothy is receiving anything but ordinary reports from his lands. He certainly sends no messengers. In fact, incoming messengers are detained and not permitted to leave.
((In addition, you dont HAVE a personal guard. So for the purposes of this, I just used some other soldiers.))

Send letter to Blackadder, inviting him for a discussion in Ligorian camp. Bodyguard allowed.

[2,?] Your messenger staggers back into camp a few days later, horse missing and badly beaten. He informs you that Blackadder is currently unable to join you, as he appears to be besieged by another noble, whos identity is currently unknown.

In other border campaign news, Sir Timothy August's recovery seems to be going well.

((So sorry for lateness.))
After the wedding:
William stepped into Rectyl's office and gave the lizard a smile.
"I need to ask you a favor, Rectyl..."

William meets with Rectyl.
Retcyl was busy checking the reports from Hugo and the Bloody Fists when William entered. He heard what he had to say and responded.

"Of course William...I'm guessing this is  something about my ship or Polca, yes? Or something about your estate?"

"This place is crazy. They bite at each other like rabid dogs, no heed paid to their common security..."

Nikephoros mused over the situation as it was. He could assume that it was De Plume who attacked the Blackadder, or that it could have been someone else. Either way it seemed that Ligoria would be able to gain some allies if he promised them titles and security as well as seat in the government in exchange for taxes. But first he would have to rescue Blackadder form his predicament fitrst to enlist him. Maybe he will know more about the bandit queen.
Sir Timothy was getting better, so Nikephoeros hoped that he would be able to travel soon. And now that he had 6 regiments with him, he felt a bit more confident about the operation.

Once Sir Timothy gets better enough to ride, move with all regiments and Sir Timothy towards Blackadder.

"Of course William...I'm guessing this is  something about my ship or Polca, yes? Or something about your estate?"

William looked a bit sheepish.
"A mix of the first two. I have received a regiment from the republic- as well as become a baron of it- and plan to head back to Polca and throw that fool Lord out of office. I would like to borrow a ship."

Retcyl sighed. "Go ahead. But before you resort to any violence, hand this to the Lord...might make things easier."

As Retcyl spoke, he took a nearby scroll from a shelf and gave it to William. The contents of said scroll were blocked from William's view; it was sealed with the flower emblem.

"Its a certificate of forced resignation; the Lord, coward he is, gave fealty to the Empire...give it to him and we'll see how far his loyalty goes...not an inch, I think."

"Farewell again dear William...but you should know I'm going to ask something of you eventually William...these favours of yours add up."

Send out news that I wish to hire engineers and labourers. Also see how my smuggler is doing.

[2] Your smuggler hasn't been seen near the island in a while, but the last time he came by there was a drop of .[44] ducats left for you. He apparently didn't say where he was headed, just that he should be back around the new year.

Specialists are priced as normal and can be hired from almost any city you have access to

"I understand that, Rectyl and I'm looking forward to paying them off. Farewell."

Disguise the Republican Soldiers with different clothes, so they can't be traced back to Ligoria. Then take Rectyl's boat and sail to Polca. Take any flags off the boat and survey the port for any ambushes or garrisons before docking.

Finally Ortwin arrived at his family holdings. A simple motte and bailey affair, with a small village surrounding it. At least the donjon was of stone. Ortwin, riased an eyebrow when he passed the gates into the motley without meeting any guards. The old bloodoak in the midst of the court looked like it had some malicious intent in mind without all it's leaves. In the naked branches  a trio of ravens had taken place and seemed to watch him.

Crows bring the Spring he thought to himself repeating a Brighthall saying.

After talking with some servants he was brought to a small audience room. It was a simple room. The room looked like it always had, a hearth on one side and the only windows in the whole castle on the other side of the room, allowing someone to look down into the court. Ortwins till remembered the old oaken table his father had always used, although it seemed some more burnmarks and carves had been added in the last few years. Finally he raised his eyes on his sister-in-law who had sat there in silence.

Ortwin...

Liandre...

her voice was cold and filled with grief. Liandre had never been a particular sight to behold but with her grief-stricken eyes, the widows-clothing and that frown in her face, she looked even more unsightly. a cold silence filled the room, nobody wanting to begin. Finally Ortwin had enough.

How did...how did he die...?

The pox had taken him, he didn't have a quick death. The doctors tried to bled his gall but he only went worse. The lord had punished him for his sins.

ORtwin had almost forgotten about he...piety. If all had went the way Liandre had liked it, she would have lived in celibacy in some monastery, but alas she had been married to Ortwin's brother. Who didn't relish the prospect either.  She had always hated him for it and his brother had soon left her alone having his fun with other women. That was one reason Ortwin had left, the endless tirades of that woman...

Were are the guardsmen and why did i see only one servant?

she laughed. It was a ugly laugh...a bitter laugh.

Oh as soon as this whoring bastard had left the world, they began to steal what was not nailed to the gound or to heavy to lift and made of with it. I had to sell the lands to even feed myself.

Now it was for Ortwin to laugh ugly.

You mean, you have sold them to get away as soon as possible with as much money as possible?

How dare you! I have managed this castle almost the last two years! And you dare calling me a fraud! By the One i cu...

By the Gods, stop your ranting woman! You have managed to run my ancestral lands down. When i left the lands outside were rich and the people happy. Today i only saw some half-starved wretches, no guards and an old hag screaming bloody murder at me. GET OUT!

he grabbed the widow and dragged her out into the court, she all the while screaming and flailing wildly. Finally he threw her out onto the dirty road.

Ortwin Bloodoak i curse you and your family until the en...

Get. out. of. my. eyes. You self-righteous old hag.

fueled by rage he closed the two large palisade gates himself.

when he stomped back up into the small audience room, one of the servants approached him wearily.

"Uhm you are the new Lord sir?"

Yes of course i am! And now, is Hergen the old master-at-arms still alive?

"Y-yes milord, as soon as your brother had died, Lady Liandre had thrown him out, saying that whoring and drinking sinners like him had nothing to do in such a household. I think he might currently be in the The Dead Owl"

a smirk crept on Ortwin's face. The Dead Owl had been always horrible: the drinks tasted like piss and the food was not even touched by the animals, but it had always been chockfull due to being the only tavern in the whole area.

That thing still stands? I think ill get a drink...

As William left, Retcyl hastily sent a message to the escort ship, saying that they would in fact, have a task beyond looking good. After the mesage was sent, Retcyl left for the palace.

He saw little difference in the palace; true the trappings of royalty were gone, but the decor of this republic was little different. Just as extravagent and grand...or limited and poor to some. Retcyl hailed the guards and told them that he wished to meet with either rulers of Ligoria.

Send a message to escort ship saying that they have to transport William and obey him for now. If the Lord should somehow end up on the ship, sail immediately back to Ligoria as long as there is no immediate danger in doing so. Retcyl goes to the palace, requesting a meeting with the rulers.

Franz leaves with the guard his sword, a throwing knife and a single dagger. Entering the palace he is guided by servants to a waiting lounge where he is offered some tea, which he gladly accepts.

Franz waits for the Lord Chancellor

After twenty minutes of waiting, Franz's patience was finally rewarded. A disappointed merchant walked out of the council room, and the guards allowed Franz to enter. Kathos was sitting at his chair, with alot of paper around him. There were guards along the walls of the rooms, but they were not bothered by the arrival of Franz. Kathos, without looking up from his papers, spoke first.

"Who are you and what is your business?"

Smiling, Franz enters the room.
"AH, good day Lord Chancellor."

He takes a steep bow before continuing to speak.

"Let me introduce myself, I am Franz LaWitch, you might of heard about my family. I am a man of special talents. However for safety reasons I would like to discuss my business in private. It will not disappoint you."

Kathos' eyes focused on Franz for a few seconds, then his attention returned at his papers. After a long moment of silence, he moved his hand towards the door. The guards left the room; only one man remained, next to the door. It was Adrian, the Lord Chancellor's second in command.

"I have never heard of the LaWitch family, and I do not wish to hear about them. What's important is you. So, 'Franz' what did you want to talk about?"

Castleton, a tall middle-aged man with dark hair and eyes, greeted William at the door. "Good morning. Sir Blackrose, is it?" he asked, standing aside to allow William to enter. He recognized him from a few days ago, when he and his lady had paid a visit to the estate. "If you're looking for the Baron, he is in his study. Do you require anything?" he asked, meaning directions or refreshment.
