At the meeting with William
Kathos shrugged, looking amused.
"I fought a few battles against his forces, back in the days... Kothitas is a powerful nation, William. They have some powerful armies, and competent officers. Be careful when you'll go there. Why do you want to execute Marlax, anyway?"
Some time earlier, during summer
((CG once gave me swordplay training rolls in the IRC. I wrote a post, saved it, and forgot to actually post it :/... I found that lying around on my computer earlier today.))
[Swordplay training: CG rolled 46545]
Kathos and Adrian were walking in one of the gardens of the palace. They chatted for some time without any specific subject, until Kathos stopped walking, looking ahead and smiling. A servant was entering the courtyard, carrying two wooden swords. Puzzled, Adrian looked at his commander. The Lord Chancellor answered the unspoken question.
“I didn’t fight for too long, Adrian. That was obvious when I met with the assassin, a few weeks ago. I thought that some training wouldn’t hurt. Just because I'm the Lord Chancellor doesn't mean I will never fight again. I want to be ready if I have to defend myself.”
“You mean… You want to fight right now, In the middle of the courtyard?”
Kathos’ grin grew bigger as the servant handed him the training weapons. He gave one to his lieutenant, and he placed himself into a fighting position.
”Indeed.”
Kathos attacked first. He was an extremely aggressive fighter - the Thunderblade, a sword longer than most weapons, nearly always gave him an advantage if he wanted to pierce an opponent's defense. Adrian dogded his first attacks easily. They used to spar alot, back in the days, and Adrian no longer hoped to block Kathos' attacks. Kathos was a strong man wielding a powerful weapon, and when he faced a very defensive enemy, he could simply hit them again and again until his adversaries were too tired to block. However, he was slower than his lieutenant, and Adrian knew that. The officer counter-attacked quickly, and they started to fight furiously. Back in the days, Adrian never won. He was always slightly behind his commander.
After less than a minute, Adrian disarmed Kathos.
"You're right. You are getting rusty."
"We'll meet again tomorrow."
