"I think it would be a waste if you ended up hanged in Polca, William. The fact of the matter is, your whole plan is relying upon the fact that the Lord does not expect you to come back with a bigger force and try to go straight to his palace to get rid of him, while he has every reason to believe that it's not the last time he hears about you."

Kathos looked towards the window. His smile faded a little - he looked slightly bored.

"Audacity can win against impossible odds, William. However, you can only be 'audacious' against an opponent once; afterwards, he will expect you to fight in a non-linear manner. You are a talented fighter and a good leader, but you are not as experienced as you believe, and you are certainly not immortal. As I said, it would be a terrible waste if you died in Polca... Like every member of your family, you have an incredible potential. Don't throw it away."

"If I may add, I believe that if you help us help you, we all walk away richer and more powerful. There are details to be figured out later: what will happen with Polca and how can we deal with Galam, but I do think that Kathos is right. You need our assistance."

One of the shadier inns in Vasir...
Terryn's head came up with a gasp, tepid water dripping from his face and down his muscular neck. His pounding hangover still remained, but at least the waves of nausea had left. Pushing back curly autumn hair- he'd need to remember to cut it- he glanced back at Oswald, who had silently entered the room after showing a sprightly and lithe young man, who Terryn had drunkenly agreed to "share a room with", the door. "We best be heading back, my friend. Sanguine's a more stable source of income than escort missions...ah...why don't we see if we can't find merchants heading back to Ligoria?"

-Terryn searches for any escort work in Vasir that is heading to Ligoria, or in the same direction as Ligoria. (ie. if escorting the caravan/noble/whoever would only take him part of the way, that's fine.)

Spoiler: Terryn's Assets (click to show/hide)

[2] Most of the ships in port currently are headed westward after they dump their cargo in Vasir. [6] There is a Caravan that ends in Moun headed out from town soon. It doesn't, however, plan to make Ligoria before mid-winter. Closest it'll get is Shola before heading to Mileth. The Caravan Driver apparently has the most awful route assigned to him.

William had a short, sharp laugh at 'and you are certainly not immortal'.
"Why your concern for me is touching, Kathos."

William frowned and ran his hand through his hair.

"Which is one of the reasons why I came, I will accept your offer to become a baron again and serve the...Republica, provided you lend me one regiment of soldiers this fall, to take control of Polca. We can arg-discuss the benefits the Republica will receive from Polca later."

William accepts baronship of Ligoria and the two parcels that come with it. Provided that Ligoria lends one regiment of troops.

"It's better than nothing," Terryn replied to Donald's grumbling as he tossed another fur cloak into the travel chest. "Unless you'd prefer to continue taking odd jobs like this?" The bearded man squinted, and shrugged. "Aye, Command'r. One more long haul an' we'll get t' do some real fightin' again. Sounds good to me."
Terryn gave a short satisfied nod and then turned to survey the winter boots on display in a market stall. They would be traveling for some time, and in the winter at that, he was going to be prepared.

Accept the job.

Well then William, it seems that we will come to an agreement after all. But we need to discuss the benefit to the Ligoria now before I lend you soldiers. I need to have your word of a tangible benefit out of this. We could give you the title of Count of Polca and autonomy, but I would like to see a yearly flat tax from Polca flowing into Ligorian treasury and your full cooperation under my command during wartime.

"That, 'under your command during wartime' sounds like a drag, I'll lend my troops to you, but I reserve the right to override any command you give if it senselessly slaughters, injures or will destroy the majority of my troops for no purpose. I also reserve the right to call my men off if the atrocities committed by Ligorian troops are too hard to Stomach.

"I said "co-operation". I do not want you to follow me around like a lieutenant, but I can always use a field commander. And your troops will always be under your command unless circumstance disctates otherwise. All I want is your acceptance of orders as they come and sticking to whatever war plan there might be."

"Sure. If Polca becomes a part of Republica, autonomus under your rule of course, then you are more than free to enter the council. You membership will be mandatory.

Later that day, Pasha stood in a fitting room in the tailor's shop on the square, his arms out to his sides somewhat like a T. The little man was rushing about, taking measurements, and making last minute adjustments to his outfit. I didn't think I could be this calm about it. I thought I was going to be a nervous wreck today, he thought, nodding to the tailor as he stepped away. Retrieving his sword belt, Pasha buckled it around his waist, checking the shaska and knife in their sheaths. Both were secure, but quickly removable should anything happen. He didn't think it would, but this was the one day he was not going to leave it to chance.

Finished, he moved out to the square, nodding to the guests and dignitaries, pausing a moment to clasp hands as was tradition with Nikephoros, Kathos, and William as he encountered them, before making his way to the priest's side. That, too, was tradition, even if it was one he didn't care for. Truthfully he would have preferred one of the two leaders of Ligoria to be performing the service as he didn't hold any faith in religions, but he would accept it. It was a small sacrifice, and one not worth fighting over. He looked over at the traveling band he had hired and inclined his head slightly.

The lead bard nodded back and took up his instrument, and they all began to play. Standing by the priest, Pasha turned to look down the street to where his bride would emerge, anticipating the moment eagerly...

"Alright then. Nikephoros will choose what regiment he will send with you to assist you. You are now part of the Republica, William. Congratulations. I'll do the paperwork later."

Kathos looked around, as if he was making sure he didn't forget anything.

"When are you going to leave?"

"Week or two. If I do happen to survive, i'll be coming back down here for a few days, before I head down to some hellhole and deal with a man by the name of Marx-...no Marlx... No, I mean Marlax. I'll see you today at the wedding, Kathos."
William made to leave, politely nodding at Nike and Kathos as he went.

Kathos stopped looking around the room and fixed his eyes on William. His smile disappeared.

"Marlax... How are you going to 'deal' with that man, and why?
