Quite a few choices here today, eh?

Retcyl seated himself down on a table by a corner and just watched the crews for an hour. Seeing what they did, their characteristics, their enjoyment or anger. It always interested Retcyl that alcohol was the first thing men turned to in despair and celebration. He spent much time looking at the crew of the escort ship. They looked rather tired of their shore life while the mercenaries seemed to be enjoying it. They might do.

Retcyl called for a waitress and ordered a drink for the whole escort crew, before getting up and heading to their table. He looked for the leader, and after identifying him, seated himself opposite him. "Would your fine men be looking for a job?" He said slowly. Soon after, the drinks arrived. "For you."

Talk to the escort crew leader and ask him if he wants a job.

[5(23)] The Captain looks surprised that you decided to sit with them, more surprised at the drinks and completely dumbfounded by the job offer.

"You're offering me and my crew a job? What kind of job?"

Behind Sanguine's Barracks...

The Mercenary Commander favored the Lonemine Commander with an exaggerated frown, before moving to lead his men out of the alleyway. "Very well then, Sanguine. I'll see you tonight, unless you send word for me sooner."

-Terryn waits until that night, or until word is sent for him, and then heads to William's Barracks accompanied by Oswald and Donald.

[X] No roll needed

((Whoops, swore you wore heavy...Note to self, actually read things.))
William flipped a coin and then caught it after glancing at Terryn.
"Huh...Must be going blind or something, but no, that will do. And no, your soldiers will not be required for this exercise."

Back in the Barracks:
William flipped the pad over and re-read what the captain said about which ships were the most problematic and smuggled in the most contraband.

((What was i supposed to roll about this? Whether William can read his own handwriting?))

((Just how many boats are career smuggling ships/belonging to gang/smuggled in a lot of contraband, what the boats are named and which are strongest crewed/armed...?))

Before anything else, test how fine the Flour is, also, test a small pinch of gunpowder outside to see if it actually works.

William's Barracks, at night:
William was leaning against a wall with Chironas beside him, he wasn't wearing his trademark black coat and hat this time, just his usual leather armor over some grayish-black clothing. Zerim was strapped to his hip and a simple pack was strung over one shoulder. The pack was most likely filled with bottles of high proof alcohol, matches and rags. The four guards- one with a crossbow strapped to his back- that William had chosen eyed the thugs for a moment before going back to doing what they were doing before, which is to say, waiting around. William didn't look up upon hearing Terryn's approach.

"Glad you could make it. Need anything or any questions you want answered before we go?"

[461]

Only three ships are career, and of those only the two posing as merchants dock in the harbor. The third, the Sovreign, moors out about a mile - forcing the crew to enter and leave by dinghy - which are watched like hawks coming back to the ship.

Before anything else, test how fine the Flour is, also, test a small pinch of gunpowder outside to see if it actually works.

[3] A bit coarse, but fine enough for your needs, and [6] the gunpowder works - if not too well.

Midnight:

Hmm...the sovereign is going to be an issue...
Indeed. Or you could pull the Captain Marine Trick.
What?
Captain Marine trick, the one that was used during the third rebellion of Suul by the entire marine force
...Does that actually work...?
Wanna try?
...Lets deal with the weaker ones first, then yes I will.

"Alrighty then, lets go blow some shit up." William said this with a small smile as his men picked up the bags of flour and slung them over their shoulders, a fourth was carrying the bags of gunpowder very carefully. Everyone of them carried a spare pair of matches, but were told not to use them unless William was out of commision.

William headed towards the piers where the two weaker ships were docked, then killed the sentries quickly and quietly, either by using the crossbow or the sword, then he'll plant the explosives (A sealed bag of gunpowder with a wick stuck in it, on top of the eighty pound bag of flour) below decks, as close to the bottom of the hull he can get without arousing more guards/smugglers. Then he'll light the wick with a match and leave the boat and a few dozen feet radius around it rather quickly. He'll repeat this process with the next boat
Terryn is to guard Williams back by watching for any smugglers being alerted, or if he's feeling brave, he can attempt to kill the captain.((If anything goes wrong at any stage, William and the group will wait for mine or Thatkid's orders.))

Chironas caught William before he left and kissed him-passionately-for luck.

"You'd better not die on me, William. Not tonight."

She smiled, letting him go.

Then she shifted into the shadows, and and waited for the explosion.

The tide was high tonight, and the salty air fresh and clean. Sir Terryn half wished that the place would smell like shit. That it was low tide. He may not be the most honorable knight, but he certainly preferred to look a man in the eyes when he killed them. It was the least you could do, Sir David had taught him, to show respect for those you killed, at least in the end. And Sir Terryn was always of a mind that it was more appropriate for an environment to reflect the actions within somehow, though that was hardly ever the case.

His gloved thumb ran along the grooves in his long sword's pommel as he walked along several paces behind Sanguine's group, his bright blue eyes darkened to that of the ocean's depths in the moonlight as he kept a wary vigil for any danger. His group, consisting of himself, Donald, and Oswald, was a tad separated from the Lonemine group. But this was only so that they would appear to be a separate faction, if someone was planning to attack there was no use in revealing your true numbers too early.

The group turned a corner, and the first set of sentries came into view. As Sanguine raised his crossbow and put the plan into motion, Donald loosened his short sword in its scabbard, and Terryn held his breath. If the sentries got the chance to raise an alarm, if Sanguine and his crew failed to take them out quietly, things would go bad very quickly. If there were complications, he wondered if he'd leave Sanguine to his fate, or risk trying to finish the job...

E: If they safely make it onto the ship undetected (or apparently undetected), and the Captain's quarters is separate from the rest of his crew then Terryn and his two companions will move to slay him in as quiet a manner as possible. If not, they'll simply continue to watch Sanguine's back.
If the group is discovered/a sentry is able to raise the alarm/etc. Terryn will make no rash decisions. (ie. Wait for a command on my part, please?)
E2: Note for combat that Terryn is wearing a studded brigandine, carrying a long sword, and making use of a buckler.

Well, if you believe that talking will get us somewhere...

I believe we tried talking once with these guys under Laythe and when we seiged a certain city. But then again, we had certain constraints, whereas now we can conduct our policies more freely.
If you feel that you can achieve something, then I will be willing to let you try. I will be standing by in case something happens.

Any objections, anyone?

[Sorry for the absence, I was sick for a few days.]

"I don't have anything to say against that plan. Our interaction with the nobles will be extremely important for our future - the other nations will watch our actions, and learn about us. We must show them that we are willing to give a fair deal to our adversaries, and that we will crush anyone trying to oppose us. The different states of the Storm Coast must understand that Laythe is gone, and that none of us here are like her."

Kathos paused for a few seconds to let that sink in.

"While you are away, Nikephoros, I will start some work in the city. A pirate recently raided the port. It's a miracle that he only managed to take 3 ducats, for there was no ship protecting the docks. I will look around in the port, and if it's possible I will buy a ship or two and hire their crew, unless any of you have an objection. We cannot leave our port undefended. If there is time, I'll try to take a few actions against the gangs in the city, too. It was part of our plans since the beginning to deal with the crime in the city, and we might as well do it soon."

Sounds fine to me. Come Autumn, Tala and I will move to the border. And one more thing Kathos : Take my one ducat and spend it on city. Bright One knows that the townfolk need this money more than I do and there is still a lot of work to be done.

Unless anyone has anything other to talk about, I believe the meeting is done.

At the end of the meeting  give 1d to Kathos for city reconstruction.

((Terribly sorry, but i ran 2 sets and neither was any better! So this should, at the very least, be hilariously entertaining for everyone.))
[312221]
Everyone manages to get on the ship undetected - by the ship crew anyway. The dock sentries were unceramoniously pushed into the harbor by your attempt to slay them quietly. You're pretty sure one drowned and hopefully the others, bleeding, will bait some sharks. While not exactly a very stealthy run, your men do their jobs well enough. You plant, light and flee the 'present' left in the ship. One smuggler down. Even better! No one is sleeping anymore. Other crews have come to see what's happening on the other ship. Terryn and crew are hilariously standing around with a mixture of being pleased with themselves and terror at the explosion.

Men are awaiting further orders - however the ones holding bags are looking sorta paranoid.

William let himself smile as he left the ship and hurried away, everything was going fine...well fine enough, by his standards. The explosion tore across the peaceful night like the first thunder stroke in a coming storm. The faint smell of burnt wood, burnt flour and burnt bodies drifted across the bay, chased by the acrid smoke that came with it.

"One down, three to go." William muttered under his breath as he watched the ship suddenly flare, soon after, approximately a few minutes, he noticed the people who lived and worked in the dock were roused by the explosion.

Put the unlit gunpowder bags into the flour bags and conceal them in there and then vacate the area and use the back ways and alleys  to avoid the crowds and head towards the other boat. Once there scope out how many sentries are now standing guard. Send the Crimson Guardsman that isn't doing anything to go back and get the rest of the Guards,as well as try to get to the Hatcur afterwards to get their assistance in the matter with the following request, with the orders to render aid to the people in the dock area as necessary(I.E assist in cleanup, render medical aid to any survivors, and so on) until a sign by William that they should flee, flight or assist William, is made.((But of course wait for Thatkid to post beforehand.  :P ))

Terryn affected a slight wince as the first explosion rocked the harbor, but he did not look away from the ensuing carnage until several long moments had passed. By then, a crowd had already begun to form. With a slow sigh, Terryn began to move to follow Sanguine's group, pausing only to issue a quick, quiet order: "Donald, head back to camp. Get a few of our most discrete brothers, I want you to start a fire on the opposite side of the harbor. Hopefully the chaos will better hide us. Try not to get caught."

He then continued to follow along with Oswald, watching William's back and, if safe to do so, assassinating the captain of the next ship once they're on board.

(Apologizing for my own delay as well.)

At the cave, nighttime

Pasha listened to Tala's story attentively. He took a sip of the ale as she told him of her first attempt (a somewhat failed one) at thievery, and how the farmer had taken pity on her and let her have the potatos. I may have to find out who this farmer was, and perhaps send him a gift. Anonymously, of course... A little later on, he added, "I hope you killed that bastard," as he took another drink and refilled their glasses. As she finished the story, she moved closer to him, putting her head on his chest.

"Your happiness is my only concern, Tala," he said gently, stroking her hair. The world is pointless and cruel and the only thing I am good at is death, both by my own hand and sending other men to theirs... but if my continued existence makes you happy, then I have a reason beyond animal survival to keep going. He gathered her into his arms. "Well... my stories aren't very exciting, I'm afraid. I was born in Moun, where my mother had escaped after her... association with Dysevik; even he wouldn't attack the holy city."

He paused for a moment to straighten out his own memories. "We lived on the streets. For a poor person, Moun was a decent enough place to live; the priests could be generous if they saw fit, and tried to provide children with a bit of education, mainly reading and writing and religious studies. Presumably so when they grew up they could get a good job and give better donations, but I'm not complaining." He pushed his hair out of his face, still slightly damp from his own jump through the waterfall. "My mother, Yulia, died when I was young. One of the first things I remember." He sighed. "I'm not sure how. I don't remember. I don't think it was thieves in the city, and I was too little to understand much of anything anyway. My memories from that long ago are fairly disjointed, but it seems that the priests were very worried about something. It was probably a sickness."

Pasha took a drink. "So I was a troublemaking kid. I would sneak around and get into all sorts of things I wasn't supposed to. I never stole anything except food, I mean what use is a gold coin to a stupid child who doesn't know any better?" He laughed at himself. "I'm actually a little mad at myself because I'm certain that all the money I found and ignored as a child would be a small fortune today if I'd grabbed it. A ducat's worth at least, anyway. Eventually I got bored of Moun and started making my way south, to warmer climates. I was... probably a young adult by then." He actually wasn't sure how old he was. Up until recently, he hadn't cared enough to pay attention to how many seasons had passed, and now that he was trying to think about it he found his memory wasn't good enough to recall them all. On the other hand, he had seen a portrait of Dysevik painted when the man had just assumed his father's throne at twenty, and he looked almost exactly like him. That had been before he met Tala, so he was probably... twenty one, twenty two now?

"The southern lands were different. Not particularly better or worse, but warmer at least. But I still couldn't find a place to... belong." I guess you know the feeling of being an outsider, too, no matter where you go. "During one particular summer there was a fair in one of the smaller cities. One of the attractions was a game, chess, against an old man. I was bored and it seemed easy enough, so I sat down against him and beat him three or four times fairly soundly." He shook his head. "What I didn't know was that the old man was General Allworthy's old strategist, looking for a successor so he could retire. And that began my career as a military officer."

From there his story was easy enough to find for those who cared to look for it; he had won a few battles here and there, then left to find a new place to ply his trade, bored of working for Allworthy. It continued on for some time, campaigning for one lord, then another... sometimes against the one he had just worked for. It wasn't until two years later that he had made his way south far enough to run into Kothitas, and he glossed over most of that section of his history. "So there I was, working for a rather suicidal lord named Percival d'Aubrani, launching assault after assault on the borders of Kothitas. And to the credit of our soldiers, we actually managed to take two or three border towns before Lord Marlax decided this threat needed to be put down."

He finished his glass and refilled both of theirs. "I think seeing me might have thrown him a bit when we met on the battlefield." He laughed at himself again. "I found out later that with the exception of my mother's eyes, I look almost exactly as he did at my age. The Marlax blood breeds true, it seems. I met quite a few of my half-brothers and sisters when I worked for him, and there were a lot of similarities between all of us. Most particularly the nose and the jaw, although quite a few had hair like mine, albeit darker or lighter. Anyway, the first day of battle went fairly well for us, and we got him to retreat."

"Arrogant thought, that. I'd gotten complacent, comfortable with outthinking the petty lords and ladies of other city-states without two thoughts to rub together. That night I sneaked out to do what I do best and murder his generals as they slept, but I suppose he had anticipated an assassin of some kind coming for him. I got caught, and on seeing that it was me who had been captured, he had his army burn down the city we had garrisoned in and kill anyone attempting to flee, soldier or not."

"So I knew that we had something in common from the start; we were both bastards." That was probably a poor joke, but Pasha had drunk enough of the ale that he felt like making it. "As I found out, Dysevik was my father, and he found a use for all of his children; mine was just more obvious. With his armies at my command, I took back all the ground Kothitas had lost and expanded it further, and I thought that I had found a place to finally be. I wasn't happy with everything that happened in Kothitas, but I felt like I had found somewhere that I didn't have to leave." He shook his head at his foolishness. "I led his armies for a year or two before my father decided I had proved myself enough to him that I could be his regent in another city-state. We all know how THAT turned out, but I'm much the better for it." He kissed Tala's forehead.

"And... I think the time for talking may be through for now. We have this cave all to ourselves and there are much more interesting things we could be doing..."

At the cave, the next day
For once, Pasha's rest was dreamless and he found that a relief. The last few nights, when Tala had been sick, he had done nothing but dream of the dungeons of Kotitas. Perhaps he was so exhausted that he couldn't even muster up the energy to dream? He was barely awake enough to feel her slip from his side, and he watched her go to the front of the cave and wash under the waterfall through his eyelashes, feigning sleep now. ...I think I'll pretend to sleep a little longer. This is too nice a moment to startle her. She came back in, dressed, and started cooking... and now he had to get up, because he was starving and definitely needed some breakfast.

With a yawn, he pushed off the covers and stood with a stretch, grunting with pleasure as his sore muscles flexed. "Good morning," he said as he passed Tala. She'd had an excellent idea and he too cleaned himself off in the waterfall before pulling on his clothes and returning to the fire, taking a seat next to her. "May I say you're the loveliest creature in the world? I've seen graceful cats that would envy the way you move, your hair makes roses seem drab and faded, your green eyes contain all the beauty of a spring meadow no matter what season it is..." he trailed off, attempting to distract her by kissing her ear before trailing down to her neck...

...but before he could even try much of anything, there was a voice outside. A man's voice, calling for Lord and Lady Alanis. He rolled his eyes and sighed, then grinned goofily at Tala. "Remember where I was at, I want to pick up where I left off..." While she finished her cooking, Pasha headed out and spoke to the man briefly before returning. "Nikephoros and Kathos are calling a council today. We'll probably have to leave soon," he said with a disappointed sigh. The pair of them ate their breakfast quickly.

At the meeting
Pasha and Tala had went home right after breakfast to change into more suitable attire for the council meeting, and Tala was quick to give them a piece of her mind for interrupting the vacation. Pasha hid a smile with his hand and a cough as she did so, taking his seat next to her. The meeting passed quickly enough, with she and Nikephoros planning to attempt to expand the borders of Ligoria. Not a bad idea, that. They could use the extra money more lands and businesses would bring in. "No, no objections here," he said.

"We really do need a navy. Fucking vultures... sorry, I apologize for the language. I never did like the people who followed in the wake of battle, looting corpses and abandoned towns..." Pasha rubbed his forehead. Even at his lowest times as an orphan he hadn't done that. "Do you want me to do anything?" Pasha asked, meaning look for capable people, hit the books and learn something about how to command a ship, or other things.

(Also, forgot to do this earlier...)

After the meeting

When everything was said and done, Pasha and Tala headed home, hand in hand. "I've been thinking, you know, worrying over it this way and that..." he started, running his thumb over hers as they walked. "...and I think maybe we should just say, forget planning too much. Tomorrow we'll just send out a notice saying the day after we'll be wed in the town square and whoever wants to attend can. We've already invited Kathos, Nikephoros, and Hugo, so they'll probably show up."

He looked around as they walked. "I think the general mood of Talama is down and they could use a celebration of sorts, and that's what this should be. A day for the people of Talama to forget their cares and enjoy a party, and a day for us to celebrate that... despite everything we've been through, we found each other, and we'll stand against whatever hardship is going to come at us. Together." Times were going to be hard for Ligoria. The psychobitch had done a lot of damage on her way out and probably wouldn't be satisfied with just that, and the vultures were already scavenging what they could... but maybe they could pull through. They just had to keep trying.

"...What do you think?" he asked, wondering if she would support the idea or not.
