[5] The Lord truly had no reason to say no. He knew someday that the Empire would likely own all of the Storm Coast anyway. [3] He simply didn't have any reason to say yes to something that could, and would, likely facilitate his death. [4] However, he didn't see any reason to outright deny the request.

"You have a powerful backer in the Empire, given the events of late - at this time I couldn't possibly accept anything publicly. Should I still be here when the Empire makes their next move? I will assist them. Until then, however, I aim to maintain what little I have in the face of insanity..."

This was...amazingly simple compared to Ligoria...

"The Empire is generous, my lord. You shall remain leader here. No point in removing a leader that has proven himself willing to serve and shows some wisdom...Now, do you have any spare resources I could use? Ducats, ships, specialists...or perhaps some *ahem* connections?"

Of course, Retycl was lying, Polca would probably go to someone with more skill...Hell it would probably become William's simply because he was able to take it himself...and because Retycl would recommend him for the post. But as a hatcuri, the Lord would truly never know since these humans had such a hard time seeing emotion in those reptilian faces.

"Your associate has already bled me dry of any fungible assets I had for the time being. Where he is currently? Look to the darker parts of town. He's like to be slitting throats if I had a guess" With that the Lord went back to flipping through some paperwork on his desk

"Yes, yes...I should see what he's been up to..."

Retycl left the palace and returned to the ship. Whatever William was doing, it was probably best not to interfere for now. He had other ideas.

Send a message to the local gangs, asking for a meeting. Say it's important.

"Was this man a real priest...and how many more are in here?"

Chironas tils her head. Surveying the corpse with distracted iinterest.

"He was a Priest when it suited him, and the Order I suppose. I guess he must have picked up enough in his years to believe he had a chance for a few moments there...what things a panicked mind latches onto, I wonder."

She motioned them onward. There's not many more left here-only a half dozen or so. To their credit, they put up much more of a fight then the false priest.

They all die.

In time, there is no living Order members left but the single young boy, trussed up neatly and sleeping like a babe, despite the carnage around him.

The poor boy won't play a part in things to come-in this story at least-but he will have a story all his own, assuming he survives the night. As things are now, the memory of Williams Face and the carnage he witnessed will be irrevocably burned into his young mind for his entire life, and in fact, will torment him as he sleeps-and when he is older, during waking hours. To avert this horror, he will seek first debauchery-then war, then massacre of innocents, becoming a feared and hated warrior with a reputation for razing villages and tormenting captives...each sin only adding to his despair, encouraging him to even fouler lows. He will be worse monster than anyone in this room ever will be.

But right now, he's just a scared boy, who if he were conscious, would be praying for the Shining One to protect him much like the Priest did, though in his case, his meager faith is more authentic.

Chironas had meant to take the boy out of the room before he could wake...perhaps before his eyes could take in the slaughter, and by doing so averting his fate....but she would just be a moment too late. Oddly, he wouldn't scream.

She spoke to him in a quiet voice.

"Boy. I need you to take a message...back to the Docks. To Nox. To the Order. Can you do this for me?"

The boy nods dumbly. Imagining already what he would do to Chironas beautiful, hateful face is was just a bit stronger...a bit crueler.

"Tell them Chironas has retired. Tell them I live for William now. Tell them that anyone who comes after me brings further reprisals. Tell them we won't hold back next time...and, for your sake, my child-quit the Order while you have the chance."

...

Chironas and William walk out of the desecrated Church side by side. She turns to him, running a hand through his hair, and says...

"Thank you for this, William."

Time with Chironas:
William just shrugs, watching Thom and Jan as they walked ahead.
"They hurt you. I don't take kindly to things like that...I wonder what they were thinking...Since they apparently knew me...Did they think if they hurt you I wouldn't do anything?"

They arrived back at his barracks after an hours worth of walking through the back streets and darkened allies, to keep it anonymous as to who murdered the inhabitants of the church.
William nodded to the man and woman on guard, who gave a hasty salute and tried to look like they were awake the whole time.

The Docks, later that week.

"Sir, is there some reason ye've been scopin' out the docks?" He seems polite, and mannered, which seems to disturb you.

William gave his best smile to the man, a flirting one. Even though he wouldn't do that in a million years. He made his voice chirpy and cheery.
"Of course there is good sir! I am an architect, touring to help beautify the Storm Coast, and I'm very sorry for saying, but these buildings are quite dreadful! So garish and unsymmetrical..."
William shook his head sadly.
"Could you tell me who owns that building right there?" William pointed out the largest Whorehouse.
"I would very much like to meet with him or her, to try and redesign it into a work of art itself!"

Chironas seems spent.

"They thought they would break me, that I wouldn't confess. They thought wrong."

Eventually the group makes it back to relative safety. There has a been time of killing...and the scales must balance.

Chironas follows William to his room. She notices they are both in a poor state-bloody, sweaty, dirty.

"We'll, all that labor makes one dirty. Should I draw us a bath, love?"

Chironas body language says what doesn't need to be spoken aloud...

"Vanir Da'val at your service and these are my friends and bodyguards, Jahan Verin and Thomas Te'velti." William proffered his hat. His guards looked at the man and nodded their heads.
"How do you do?"

Lukas mostly ignores the other men, unconcerned by their presense and function. He leads you to the Gilded Lilly, through an ocean of employees and clients. You're led up a few flights of stairs to a a large hall and set of double doors. Passing a pair of guards on the way, you're led into an office with a woman at a desk having a quiet conversation into the ear of a burly man - who looks ready to piss himself.

"Lady S, I appologize for interrupting your meeting with Jean but his problems will take more than a day to resolve" Lukas smiles at the other man, who suddenly looks annoyed.

"I presume you have a reason for interrupting me Lukas? Something to do with the trio of strapping men at your back perhaps?" She pats Jean on the back and waves him off. He shoulder-checks Lukas on the way out, causing a small chuckle from Lukas.

"Right as usual Lady..." He proceeds to introduce everyone, "Rarely do we get much interest in our establishment itself and not its contents" She smiles at that comment and nods him off.

Lukas takes a stand to next to the door, motioning for you and your men to sit. The Lady leans back in her chair and smiles, "So what can I do for you today?"

"Its a pleasure to meet you Madami."
William gave a small bow and then sat, his men however didn't.
"I must say, your establishment is quite nice. So much bustle and business...and your guards are all so polite and refined, its quite unbelievable to me- begging your pardon -. But this building could use some more style and grace on the outside, to match the style and grace on the inside."

Count the guards in the room and what they are armed with.

"I do require a certain level of professionalism in the men under my employ. The nature of the job is to make people feel comfortable so they can relax while they're here. One cannot relax when one fears a knife in the kidney..." She notices your tense guards and continues, "Speaking of relaxing, you and your men should try it sometime. After business of course..." She smiles and clears her throat, "But yes, the appearance of the establishment hasn't kept up with the internal aspects over the years. One of the opposite problems is the attention that a well-maintained building in a rundown dock area would attract...but it's not exactly like we're hiding here. Perhaps we could upkeep the outside a bit...did you have ideas? Or were you here looking for more of a contractual sort of arrangement?"

Guard count: 2 outside the room, 1 (Lukas) inside. Lukas carries a seemingly decorative Rapier at his side. The men outside the room [2] you didn't get a good enough look to tell.

William remained seated. Smiling.
"Unfortunately I'm actually not really an architect and the name is William, if you please Madami, and sorry for all the lying and such, I expected it to be much harder to meet you.

But I'm here to offer you a deal. I've been "contracted" out to clean up the gangs around Polca and turn it into the best city of the Coast or some such nonsense. Where was I? Oh. But your operation is the perfect model of Organized Crime. So, I'm here to offer you something."
William shifted slightly.
"Your gang comes under my protection, if there is any problem your guards can't handle- which might occur - me and my men will assist, if you need any help with expanding or protecting your business, I'll assist to the best of my abilities, you'll receive a ducat to repair the outside of your...building...in return you'll...well we'll soon discuss that."

"Do you pay any bribes to anybody? I'm guessing the Guard Captain because of the lack of watchmen around these parts."
