Sail to Talama, sell the pigs.
Base sale price: 4.0d

Roll: [5]

+0.4 From staple demand
+0.8 From seasonal variation
+0.4 From Luck roll

Total earnt: 5.6d
Tax (15%): 0.84d

Total: 6.61d Before Tax.

Spoiler: Holdings (click to show/hide)

You're able to sell the pork at a largely inflated price (To some equally porky merchants :P), resulting in quite a large profit. You're fairly confident that you don't need to worry about the debt anymore...

Kathos listened carefully, sometimes nodding his approval, and at the end he was smiling.

"A good plan, general. The Queen values honesty, and because of this she also values my opinion... At least, she will listen to what I have to say. After this meeting, I will talk to her... I don't think I can convince her to stay behind if a battle starts, but I think I can make sure she will always be with a strong personnal guard.

I wanted to talk to you about something else, general. This might be interesting for you too, Avitus. Since the Dragon Empire is trying to expand in the Storm Coast, they must have sent spies in all the cities in this part of the world. Since it's ridiculously easy to enter or leave Talama, either by land or sea, we must assume that there are spies in the city."

He paused for a few seconds.

"We can still hope that there are no important spies in the city, but let's face it: that Dragon Empire will know about every rumor in Talama. That must change. Eventually, I will start to work against crime in the city. With a few regiments - I hope you will help me with that, Nikephoros, since I cannot bring my men inside the walls - and enough time, we can destroy every gang in the streets, and arrest most of the smugglers in the port. Once that's done, half of the job will be over. Do I have your support?"

"By all means. I do not want to terrorize the people with constant soldier presence, but this city is in a desperate need of a prefect and a strong city watch. I will make sure that appropriate men are delegated to the city service. If anything, you can propose this to the queen, and spies can be rooted out. "

"I have seriously considered this possibility, and I already sent word in the underground that I was looking for a spy of my own. I intended to use him as a counter intelligence agent, and since we are now a council, I request your approval, or even better a name if you happen to know a man proficient in this art."

A guard walks into Thomas's room.
"Lord Blackrose requests your audience. He's on the beach."

Providing that Thomas actually comes:
William was standing on the beach, watching a few of his men set up the ring. A makeshift archery butt is set up a few meters away. William has  a mechanical crossbow strapped across his back and he is holding a thick yew bow. A large collection of throwing knives, a few Molotov's, arrows and bolts, a retractable blowgun with darts, and a thin spear are laying in an ordered pile near his feet.
"Hello Mr.Thomas. How are you today?"

Thomas grabs his candle and follow the guard to the beach. "I am well, sir. Have you called for me so that I can demonstrate my skills, or do you have some other reason?"

Send smuggler back to his smuggling. Give him half of his crew. The other half will be made up of hatcuri.
[4] The Smuggler is confused to say the least. Not that he has much of a choice in the matter, but he agrees to the conditions.

He has one large burning question, "Under what condition do I enjoy this freedom?"

The first fight is William vs. Karafs.
There was an even number of fighters, and the current fights will be between the Crimson Guard and The Ambassadorial Guard. With the mystery fighter fighting against a Crimson Guardsman.

Sorry, i kinda got A.D.D. on the last fight

Thomas is greatly comforted by the fact that he's standing next to a large body of water. "I strongly suggest you stand back. Quite a fair distance." He pauses for William to move back. Thomas holds up his candle in the direction of one of the targets. He attempts to fire a (small) stream of flames at it.

Power: 3
Control: 4
Resolution: 3

A steady stream of fire erupts from the candle's tiny flame and heads directly to the target causing it to burst into flames. You're actually amazed at yourself for not exploding on the spot.

"That you don't say anything about who you work for and that you don't cause too much fuss. If anyone asks, these hatcuri are deserters...And I trust you to not to betray me...There are some places in Hatcur that torture traitors to death over three weeks of pain."

At the tournament...

The Mystery fighter raised it's hand and cast the wooden sword to the ground, signalling the end of the match with William.

The helmet was removed, and cast away...to reveal a young blonde woman with a slim, well muscled build, quite pretty-but she favors William with an intense look that unsettled those of weaker constitution.

"You are everything she said you would be. Worthy. I have something for you, William."

She chuckled, and stepped toward William, reaching inside her waistcoat...and pulling out a single green rose, with a written letter attached. She smiled, handed it to him gingerly, and bowed.

Quote

Happy Birthday William...
...I've always got an eye on you, my friend...
...So, take care of yourself until we meet again, why don't you?

Tala Alanis

P.s: The Woman is also a gift. I'm sure you can find a use for her. She's an admirer of yours...

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In the library...

Tala was looking for a certain book on royal geneology...and wasn't paying much attention to the man behind her. About 17 seconds passed before she raised her head, sniffling at something, a half remembered scent. Her memory brought vivid back images, sounds, smells-the bar in Dalannor that smelled of the acrid tang of sea salt, the violinist with the bad cough, the barmans bright green tufts of tobacco leaf spilled on his bright red jacket, and...

She said it out loud, as if saying his name might summon him from thin air. "Pasha."

Then she turned around, wondering if he would be there-of course he was, standing silently in the doorway, a smile playing around his mouth. That man! Well groomed ginger hair that had begun to darken ever so slightly around the edges, a set of broad shoulders framing his soldiers physique, and of course dark green eyes-which had always seemed so strange and familiar to her.

She took a moment to straighten out her clothes and hair, all too cognizant of the fact he was watching her with the old interest. She did so slowly, deliberately. They had played such games before, to mutual delight.

Then she crossed the room. They spent a few minutes regarding each other. 'Tala' broke the silence first, as she often did.

"Pasha...It's been much too long."

She sighed, and embraced him for a bit longer than a mere friend might.

Then punched him in the arm jokingly.

"..and, You cad! Standing there, staring at an innocent noblewoman...like a villian."

She smiled cagily. That last word had certain interesting connotations between them. She was hardly innocent, and he was hardly a villian-and yet, they were, in different ways.

Though she was hungry to hear him speak the name she was born with-Pasha was the only one she had trusted with her real name-she knew how careful they had to be. So very careful. He was cunning though. No one had caught them yet-at least, anyone that had lived very long.

Pasha was content to stand silently and watch as Tala searched among the books, reaching for first one and then another, changing her mind, pushing one aside to look behind it. It didn't take long for her movements to slow, then stop, and she said his name. As she turned his small smile broadened into a wide grin, and he spread his hands at waist level with a slight shrug as if to say, 'name the demon and he appears.' She took a moment to adjust the fit of her dress around her shoulders, to pull her ponytail a bit tighter, and he watched silently. He didn't think there was anything wrong with how she looked, but if she felt the need to try and appear even prettier for him, he wasn't about to argue. Instead he unbuckled his shoulderplates from his armor and tossed them, cape still attached, onto a nearby chair.

After a moment to get used to her presence once more - and she to his? - Lady Alanis crossed the short distance between them, and in the silence he studied her face. As youthful and beautiful as ever, but perhaps a little more lined with worry? Pasha had thought the life of a noblewoman would suit her much more, but now he thought that perhaps she missed the prospect of a new horizon every morning. He was the proud bearer of a gypsy soul, and he could see how she would miss the thrill of danger that her former life entailed. Hadn't he made a game of it himself among the smaller lords and ladies of the Storm Coast, using his skills to advance their petty goals and ambitions, and then moving on when he grew tired of his surroundings?

"Pasha...It's been much too long," she said with a sigh, stepping forward again to embrace him. He wrapped his arms around her shoulders and returned it, happy and perhaps more than a little grateful she hadn't changed or settled down since they had last parted ways. "It's good to see you again, my wild rose," he said, letting her go after a few moments... and as soon as he did so, she jabbed him in the arm! "...and, You cad! Standing there, staring at an innocent noblewoman...like a villain." He laughed, a deep rumbling sound, and put his hand on his arm. "My lady, you wound me!" he said. "No, really. Did someone teach you to punch recently?" Pasha grinned and moved his hand from his upper arm to her chin, tilting her head up so he could look into her eyes.

"But you're right. It's been too long. Far too long." He considered trying to kiss her, decided against it. He knew how she was. Whether or not the fire was there she preferred to let it blaze before doing anything about it, and the last time he had tried to initiate matters before she was ready he'd gotten a smack and a bucket of cold water over his head for his efforts. Not to mention accidentally falling down a small staircase (it was only three steps if he remembered correctly) on account of being blinded by the bucket on his head. While both had laughed the incident off later, he didn't think she'd appreciate the mess a repeat of it would leave on the rug, and the stairs to the first floor were a lot longer. Instead he settled for running his thumb along her cheek before dropping his hand away.

He sighed. As much as he hated it, there was business to speak of, and they might as well get it out of the way. But first... "I found these growing by the wayside on my ride into town. A wild rose for my wild rose," he said charmingly as he produced a white rose from his armor. It was a little crushed from where he had tucked it in, and the thorns had stung him pretty badly a few times, but a romantic gesture for her was worth a little discomfort. "You hadn't written in awhile," he said, "and then there were these rumors that there's been another Dragon Empire invasion and that Ligoria is planning a counterattack. I heard that and I thought to myself, 'Ligoria. Isn't that where she said she was going?'"

Pasha paused for a moment. "I didn't think you were in serious trouble, but I decided to free myself from my prior engagements and come to you anyway." Not that he hadn't taken his time on purpose after having a letter sent to let her know he was coming. He needed time to gather himself and giving her time to prepare for his arrival wasn't a downside either. Yet even though he had intentionally spent the last month dallying with other women, her presence alone got under his skin; was it even stronger than before because of how long it had been since they had last met face to face? He took a deep breath to clear his head. "I know you're hardly a damsel in distress, but... Is there anything I can do to help?"
