William draws his sword and swiftly steps in front of Hugo and pushes the point of the sword to the Sailor's gut. Not breaking the skin or the cloth.
"So tell me why you want that rangy man who got in the room and maybe we'll hand him over, no need to get violent with innocent- well probably not so innocent in my case- bystanders, they may get violent back.
"'es a criminal! 'e stole the captains sword!" The group of sailors tried to step forwards but William's blade remained drawing a small drop of blood. "Listen mate, I don't mean no trouble but get outa the way, would ya?"
"Ah! I can't be bothered with this" shouted the lead sailor who pushed himself to the front and took a swing at William's forehead.

Lead sailor + 3 sailors [5/5 HP +1 numbers] vs William + 2 accomplices [5/5 HP +1 Fighting down a stairwell +1 Weapon]
[Sailor 2+1 3/5] vs [William 6+2 5/5] [Critical hit] As the man's punch continued towards William's forehead he deftly flicks a knife from his boot into the air and snatched it from the air holding it between his forehead and the mans fist. The man howls as his right index finger flies of in an arc [Sailor 2+1 2/5] vs [William 2+2 5/5] and stumbles down the stairwell bowling {[Sailor 4+1 1/5] vs [William 3+2 5/5] [Sailor 4+1 1/5] vs [William 3+2 5/5]} two of the guards over however one just about manages to stay on his feet [Sailor 5+1 0/5] vs [William 6+2 5/5], a quick glance from William was all that was needed to send him running.

William turned to get a better look at the intruder [2] and began to speak but was shortly interrupted the madam "Hugo, what've you done this time?"

'Etiac Belladom, at your service.' he replied, making a deft bow. He didn't continue immediately, studying the others more closely. The soldier - for that was what he obviously was - had dealt with the sailors with obvious skill. He considered trying to worm his way into the man's entourage, but decided against it. Military discipline just wasn't for him. The one the madame had called Hugo looked familiar, and he realized he'd been with the lizard-man earlier. Now that was interesting.

'They were, uhh, old companions of mine on a ship that came in from Vasir yesterday. We had a... slight dispute over my payment, or more specifically, the lack of it. So I took the liberty of collecting my share when they were out drinking and decided to visit this fine city.' he paused, giving them a hopefully endearing smile. 'My apologies for disrupting the peace of your establishment, madame. I'll be sure to be more careful in the future.'

He turned to the two men. 'Well, I think you deserve a drink on me as I interrupted... err, whatever you were doing in here. I've got a room in an inn down the road you might be familiar with. Why don't we head over there to continue this conversation?'

"Actually, its getting a little late for more drinking. Got to get up early if I'm going to paint the sunrise tomorrow. But stop by the Hacturi camp some day and I will happily take you up on your offer. I'll tell you how to find it, just ask for Hugo van Vissersdorp, someone will know where I am. Probably."
Hugo briefly explains the location of the ruined inn, then heads back to his room at the bar.

For [the rest of the season (unless something happens)] Hugo catches up on his painting backlog. Notable pieces in this period include 'Nude with blindfold', graciously donated to a common whorehouse to 'replace damaged goods', 'Dim sunrise', an intriguing rendering of a sunrise done without using any bright colours or sharp lines, and 'The faceless regiment', a scene set in a barracks wherein every soldier's face is either turned away from the artist, or hidden behind something else. Numerous minor pieces were painted as well, primarily portraits for idle merchants and other minor commissions, probably for the sole purpose of earning money.

"There must be a way orf reaching that woman." Nikephoros knew that there might be something bigger going on here. Its not everyday that a monarch in the Storm Coast straight up chops up her own family and waves the sword around as if it were a toy. It was brave, but immature. And that meant war. Lot and lot of war. And she probably could not do it by herself, lest she had a deathwish and desired Ligoria to be burned to cinders.

"Listen here guardsman; I want you to tell Her Majesty that Vandire the Mercenary was here. She might have heard of me, most nobles who fought in the last 15 years know me." Nikephoros spoke steadily and with with forceful tone. I will be in one of the nearby inn waiting for a reply.
He then turned around and left for the streetsto find some watering hole and wait there until tomorrow. If she really readies herself for something big, she will be at least curious. If she is just playing in an iron dress though, then she will quickly find herself on the receiving end of the distrust and cold calculations of the Storm Coast. Tomorrow will tell.
In the meantime he needed to see to his men. See how the regiment stands up in terms of training and manpower, see to that they all have equipment and supplies and that they are all ready for whatever may happen. Some contract may have to be found, either in here or elswhere, otherwise there will be no regiment to speak of.

Leave the message with the guardsman and then leave for the city.  find a cheap inn and stay there until next day.

"Tala' has land-a title-money. What to do with them...something that would not arouse suspicion, certainly-but, something that gave her a nod into high society...she would need income, though-something that couldn't be traced back to her employers.

One name kept reaching her-'Hugo van Vissersdorp'. Depending on the speaker, he was either the greatest artist in the kingdom or a wretch who sold out, or maybe both at the same time. The meeting should be interesting, anyway.

Begin some speculative art trading-buy from interesting artists, and arrange auctions in public places.

Arrange a meeting with Hugo van Vissersdorp, of course!

Word has it that Hugo spends his days painting in a room above a cheap bar in town. If you wish to meet with him, that would be the place to go.

William waved goodbye to Hugo
"Maybe we could do that sketch some other time?"

A smile twitched at the corners of William's mouth, from the adrenaline. His hand was clenched around the blade of the knife-tip that was in his boot but he didn't let go, just yet. The blood dripped from his hand making a comforting sound.
William leaves the whorehouse following Etiac, pulling the slightly bloody red coat he found around him, once he was far enough away from the whorehouse, he grabbed Etiac and pushed him up against the wall and put the blade where he thought the man's liver, if he had one, was.
"So why shouldn't I kill you, you goddamn thief? I killed a few men for you. So why shouldn't I end you?" He growls in Proper.

"Tala" eventually arrived at the cheap bar the Hugo was staying that. She had dressed down for the occasion-moderately fashionable and sensible, since he was said to prefer men over women anyway-and, of course, she had come secretly armed.

She knocked on the door with 3 light taps. Waited for perhaps, the artiste to stumble out caught in an act of debauchery, or a wild eyed artistic rave, splattered in paint or clay. She hoped he was exciting at least. That part at least wasn't a lie-beyond the constant threat of torture and death, being a spy was usually quite boring.

Note: I may have calc'd this wrong - a lot of the combat rules are vague and they've changed a lot. Even the best case rolls it would have turned out the same.

2 Ambush Basic Infantry Units
4 Units: (1 Disciplined, 1 Disciplined/Archer) 2 Regular Untrained

Flank + Conserve vs (Assumed Conserve for 'defend only' caravan orders)
(3+2+2) vs (3+2) Success Threshold

Double Fail (-2 to bandits, -1 to Caravan)

Round 1: FIGHT!

The bandits emerged in the middle of the night. Their attempts to ambush the caravan were met with failure do to a well-skilled nightwatch.

[5-2+2 vs 4-1+4] - Victory: Caravan - Lost: NPC Untrained Mercs, Killed: All the bandits

The battle was short, sweet and to the point. The alert from the watch set up for the archer crew to unload a steady stream of -unlit- arrows into the night, catching the bandits off guard. The first volley killed nearly half the bandits while the rest ran straight into the blades of the guardsmen.

[4] The caravan master comes out of his tent and applauds the lot of you - those that survived anyway. He feel generous and decides that the share of the payments to the dead will be split to the survivors. [5] The bandits had their own camp nearby that was found the next day by the smoke from campfires. Bandits had some various goods stashed away. The guards load up what they can safely carry.

Arrival in Moun:

[5] Despite the fight, and thanks to the quickness of the ending, good time was made to Moun. [1] Unfortunately, however, the goods brought in by the guards after looting the bandit camp apparently -left- Moun in the first place. Other traders noticed the markings and stamps on the crates and sacks. They're very thankful for the return of the goods, just not financially. [5] They do decide to give you an extra bit for the goods the caravan brought ((double inc gain from the sales roll))

((3incs profit margin, t3 goods. 4 Wagons, 2 space each = 8*.3*3 7.2 profit (halved by merchants before cuts) 3.6d/3 guards = 1.2d gain for all))

Welcome to Moun! [5] Your men are slightly curious why such a well-trained outfit of Archers are running around as caravan guards.

Several moments later, the door opens. The room beyond is filled to the brim with unframed canvases, the paintings thereon in various stages of completion. Every surface not covered in paintings is covered in the various tools used to create paintings instead; brushes, cloths, paints of every sort and colour, and measuring devices of various sorts. An easel is set up in the middle of the floor, facing away from the door. In short, a mess. Not a very exciting mess.
Hugo himself is wearing a paint-covered leather apron over his clothes, the pockets of which are also filled with brushes. He looks preoccupied, and barely glances at Tala before speaking.

"You here to order, model, or pick up, darling?"

Check for prices on Grain, Flax and Wine in Vasir

You manage to get a listing on some of the goods being sold in the market, nothing is out of the ordinary though with most prices stanying the same as they usually are in Vasir.

Grain price: 3.2 Ducats per unit
Flax price:  3.2 Ducats per unit
Wine price:  6.6 Ducats per unit

Kawakai:

You being to realize that 10-15 ampheni won't make the money you need, so you then decide to make a several batches. It costs .64 ducats to get all the materials from the nearby countryside, and you don't exactly get much if due to the fact they're farmers and not specialist workers.

After a fair bit of work, trail and error you manage to get one units worth of ampheni made. Not bad considering the suitability of the materials here.
Then you head out to the marketplace (With a couple of Rectyl's guards, just in case) to sell them. By the end of the day you've made 1.4 Ducats after taxes.

[3] Out of the crowd of customers you find that most are just lesser nobles, probably getting something to show off to their rivals and friends. You do manage to see a particularly large guard, but nothing strikes you odd about him, even if he was only there to collect the sales tax.
