"Some interesting proposals, Ambassador. I have no problem with you doing excavations under the arena and in other historical sites of the city - save for the palace - as long as you share your finds with us. Ligorian artifacts will remain ligorian - you will have the right to copy works of arts that you discover - and the knowledge that you gather will be placed in our libraries, but apart from that you will be free to keep the information that you discover - unless this information could be, somehow, problematic for my nation. If these conditions are acceptable for you, I'll assign a few scholars to your search team, who will help you and make sure that you won't smuggle out anything.

As for a navy... Yes... I will be honest, we do need one. Laythe fled with our ships. How many ships do you have?"

"For now, just three, but I can easily acquire more, and at better prices..."

"I thank you for this chance to excavate the city, surely there is something down there worth looking at. And I can understand your fears so I'll comply. Is there anything else you wish to speak of, Chancellor?"

"As Lord Chancellor, I cannot hire you for your navy. That is the responsibility of the Lord Protector, and he is currently at war against some rebellious nobles. When he will come back, however, I will strongly suggest that we hire your forces. That will be able, Ambassador."

"I'm doing quite fine, Madami. I'm here to talk business, First order of business is if your little venture here wishes to be legalized."

"Legalized? Well there's never really been anything against our little business in Polca. People need entertainment and we provide. I assume you're here to enforce that the arrangements made with the Lord are to be redirected to you now?" She pulls some papers from a drawer in her desk and sets them down for you to read, "Our arrangement was a simple 20% per year with allowances for his own use of our facilities. I must admit I was generally grateful as his exercise of that allowance had dwindled over the last few seasons."

"I prefer not to take bribes, Madami. All I'm wondering is if you wish to be recognized as a guild of sorts within this city. You pay a nice sum- half of what you originally were paying- to the government, and in return you'll be considered a business with all the rights of one. The right to serve as an advisor for one. You'll also no longer have to pay protection to guards, and so on."

" But if you do not wish to do that, which I suggest, then keep all the money and your people do me a service."

He paused, letting that sink in.

"Your people tell me what the citizenry is feeling at the moment, tell me who's coming in by the docks, assist me with finding the last of the smugglers, just general news. The choice is up to you."

Question the messengers about the ambushes: the places, the direction, anything. Send another wave of messengers with the same message as before.
[2,?] The messengers are clear about when they were ambushed and pursued: Directly outside sight range of your camp. Their retreat was blocked, they were herded forwards into another ambush where they were captured and beaten.
The ambushers laughed and insisted that your messengers try again. It was almost as if it was a game to them.

Given this new information, you have second thoughts about sending out more messengers.

"Very well my lord, but know that the crews need to be paid eventually and that means I'll have to give them tasks elsewhere...Anyway my lord, the only thing left I could request is that you allow hatcuri exiles and migrants to come to Ligoria...but I completely understand if you deny my request; its too much of a demand in truth."

After Kathos replied, Retcyl said his farewell and left. But as he left the room, he said, "Oh and Hatcur isn't as strong as you think it is; too divided to do anything of note anymore; my Expedition was barely permitted to leave."

"Sounds like a fair deal then. We'll set out after outfitting in the new uniforms and such."

Laythe and her unit sets out towards the territories of the Motavi empire after being outfitted in Galamese uniforms.

[25] You're stopped nearly immediately beyond the border of the Galamese lands. There seems to have been a trade caravan ambushed, by who no one seems clear. Likely more bandits, who seem to get more ambitious by the year. Just a few bodies, and the torched wagon, of a caravan master and likely his assistant. Seems they didn't bother with, or couldn't afford, any armed escort. [6] A few units of goods are still here, mostly spoiled by the weather and the damage the attackers inflicted. Some of your men comment on how sad it is they havent the means to return with any of it - worse though is that the goods are marked [5] with the sigil of the SCTG.

"I prefer not to take bribes, Madami. All I'm wondering is if you wish to be recognized as a guild of sorts within this city. "An interesting arrangement to say the least. Very well, either way you're get your use from my people. I think this will work out nicely for us both." She takes the paperwork of the prior arrangement she had with the Lord and stuffs it into the fireplace behind her, "Then I guess this is going to be one of, if not the, last time we speak face to face. I wish you luck in your new position - whether you need it or not is to the fates to decide"

Check the goods in the crates, then mark the location and the types of goods in the caravan, and send that information via messenger pidgeon to Vasir, then continue onwards to Motavi.

[2] You send a pidgeon to Vasir, you'll probably not hear any response until sometime in winter - back in Galam. The return pidgeon will never find you out here.

[65] You've reached Veruna, the eastern-most section of the old Motavi. You and your men are recognized by several of the small farming villages for being agents of Galam. No one threatens you and for the most part those you come across just wave greeting as you pass.

"Thank you for you time and assistance. Is there anything else you wish to speak to me about?"

"Not that I can think of. That's what messengers are for I suppose"

"Hmm...Do you happen to know where the rest of those smugglers are hiding?"

After she responded, William bowed his head slightly.
"I'll be in contact, Madami. May Fortune shine on our future dealings."

Head to the Guardhouse and get info any info they have on the major criminals in Polca, and any info on the hideouts of the rest of the smugglers.

The camp must be very well observed or someone on the inside is sabotaging the messenger efforts.. Extra sentries and watch should help, in and around the camp, while August's scouts should venture out and check for anything that might lead them onto the track of the people woh ambushed the messengers.

Send August's scout remgiment to check out the forest and area surrounding the camp. Try to be stealthy. Use Ligorian Regiments for extra watch duty and post additional sentries around the camp.

[6,2] Showing remarkable competence, August's scout troop actually manages to find several pockets of riders wearing De Plume's 'uniform'. However, they also give away their position and De Plume's forces scatter rather than be pinned down.
[?] Your extra guard duty, seems to have no discernible effect.

[2] The weather is starting to grow cold. Your men are beginning to grumble loudly about chasing shadows through the forest.
