"Five ducats if she is dragged in here alive. I offer no reward if she's brought here dead; it's too easy to fake. I don't want Laythe to have us think that she's dead while she is plotting behind our backs."

These were Kathos' first words when he entered the room. He had not changed much since the last time William had seen him, but he looked slightly older, and perhaps wiser. He wore his usual black and gold clothes, but it was obvious that he had put them on quickly. He was obviously in a very good mood. The Thunderblade was at his side, as usual.

"Welcome back to Ligoria, William. Who is this charming lady with you?"

William smiled, he bowed his head slighty towards Kathos
"This is Chironas, my lover, and thank you for your welcome."

[3] The trip to Vasir was uneventful. Your men were sorta hoping for a fight on the open seas. Maybe next time... [5] Welcome to Vasir, Kingdom of Coin. Where even the untitled bleed a little precious metal every once in a while. You made such good time that the captain throws in an extra quarter-ducat to round you out. Seems his shipment was worth more the sooner he made it back home.

+1d to your accounts
One of the shadier inns in Vasir...
Terryn's head came up with a gasp, tepid water dripping from his face and down his muscular neck. His pounding hangover still remained, but at least the waves of nausea had left. Pushing back curly autumn hair- he'd need to remember to cut it- he glanced back at Oswald, who had silently entered the room after showing a sprightly and lithe young man, who Terryn had drunkenly agreed to "share a room with", the door. "We best be heading back, my friend. Sanguine's a more stable source of income than escort missions...ah...why don't we see if we can't find merchants heading back to Ligoria?"

-Terryn searches for any escort work in Vasir that is heading to Ligoria, or in the same direction as Ligoria. (ie. if escorting the caravan/noble/whoever would only take him part of the way, that's fine.)

Chironas half turned to Kathos, raising one eyebrow in mild surprise, that somehow had bothered to notice her-she had been standing somewhat unobtrusively to Williams side, and slightly behind him, like a bodyguard, not a consort. Maybe the man had just enjoyed the rear view.

She assumed this was "Lord chancellor". Her first thought upon seeing him was that he had the had the swagger of an unrepentant killer. Bad first impression, maybe.

Rather than let her mouth fly loose with some sort of scathing comment, she remained quiet and polite-William was the one with the silver tongue, after all...he did fine.

Lover. She wondered if William knew how much it meant to her to hear him say that? She could only hope he did.

Chironas nodded to Kathos a moment after William, slightly brusquely.

Kathos hided his surprise when William called the lady his lover. He looked again at 'Chironas', this time examining her instead of simply noticing her. She was a good looking woman, but that was not the only thing about her. The way she stood, her position, the places where she looked - that lady was used to fighting, and killing.

Two killers can make a good couple, I guess. He thought. But who leads the dance? He looked at both William and Chironas, and he knew. William, of course. Now, is she simply a pawn, or something more important?

Kathos smiled politely towards the lady, then he spoke to William.

"Well, I believe we'd better get right down to business. You may or may not have heard that we wish to offer you a place in the nobility once again. I defended you when you were sent into exile, for at that time I believed that you were the most competent man that we could find, and that you did not deserve such a terrible punishment for a small mistake. I still believe that now. If you wish, we can make you a Ligorian baron once again, and give you back the two parcels of land that you had back then."

William appraised Kathos for a moment.
"Heheh…What’s the catch Kathos? Nothing in life is free and a good ruler never gives away anything without a reason. Especially nothing of that value."

Well I would think that a price would be the contribution to any actions that we might take. We have plenty of work to do after all.

Kathos smiled once again, but this time much more cynically. William had not believed that he was simply doing this because he had a sense of justice or anything like that. The honorable knight image must be completely gone since the fall of Laythe. That's quite annoying; it was useful to look too naive to be dangerous. Nikephoros answered first, and Kathos waited for him to finish before he spoke. He felt like he had to add something.

"We currently lack... Competent men at our side, William. I am in dire need of men who can get things done, and sadly our only spies might not even be loyal to us. The way you handled things in Vale was quite spectacular, and I think that we could put your talent to good use.

And while we're talking about talent... I suppose that you have not been idle during the last year, William. What were you doing out there after the exile?"

William shrugged and let himself smile a bit wider. His leg hurt, his brain felt like an anvil, and his mouth still tasted of ash, whisky and wine even though he swished with some mint alcohol, he didn’t feel like bullshitting anybody.
"Planning, plotting and killing to take over Polca. I decided I need a vacation after a crossbow bolt broke my shin. So I decided to pay a visit to lovely Tala and her handsome lover, to deliver some birthday presents and, finally, to get caught up with all your sordid little insurrections...", he replied with a cheery voice.

Kathos ignored William's comments on the insurrection easily.

"Taking over Polca, that's what you were planning on doing? And how are you going to do that, William?"

William shrugged.
"You care, why, exactly?"

Kathos' smile grew wider.

"Call it intellectual curiosity. I know a good deal about taking over cities or simply destroying them, but I have never managed to become the ruler of a city with ressources as limited as yours."

He paused for a few seconds, thinking.

"Unless you count Talama, of course, but Laythe did most of the job herself."

"I should have about three regiments at my side, and the lord of the city is weak and corrupt, taking bribes and not paying enough for military. It won't be hard, I managed to incapacitate the Guard and get into the lord's office before, he managed to talk me out of what I planned to do. I‘m not going to let him talk me out of it this time."

"Ah... If I remember well, the lord of Polca is rich. I guess he knows what your intentions are, too."

Kathos grinned, fully enjoying the current situation.

"And as I said, I know a good deal about taking cities. And let me tell you, men of power will never abandon willingly their power if they have a chance of survival, William. Thankfully for the lord of Polca, there is always help available for rich lords in these parts of the world."

The Lord Chancellor paused and looked at the table, letting that sink in. Eventually, he looked up towards William.

"So, how do you plan to return to Polca with three regiments before the lord hires some 'help' from Galam, William?"

"By boat…oh and I left my Heavily Armed Crimson Guardsmen under control of Minor-Knight John, there. They'll hold. But I really don't remember asking your opinion in this matter, Kathos. "
