In short: Fight, drop package, bail

Follow Terryn's orders.


Combat: 5v4
Conserve Forces: 4

The plan goes off with few, if any, hitches. William's pseudo-sniper does his job rather effectively - luring the smuggler's guards out. They're led into an ambush of William's and Terryn's men. No one fights anyone that counts as a challenge. The tactics employed by Terryn cause an easy opening to unload the package by the runner.

The explosion is spectacular. Seems there was a rather large stockpile of incendiary goods in the smuggler den. As a side effect of this explosion - the drydock is now unusable by the city (not that it's been used in a while anyway) considering it's full of water.

In the aftermath, an angry guard unloads a pair of crossbows on William from outside an optimum range and clips him in the shin with one of the bolts, shattering his shin. William's men pick him up and drag him off - after the sniper plugs the guard from the side...in the temple.

The explosion fails to do much more than destroy the drydock - and kill the smuggler's contact at the docks.

Result: Smuggler activity has been greatly reduced in Polca. Free smuggler bonuses have been eliminated and the Lord of Polca now makes a few ducats per year less from 'contributions'.

"Ach, hell. That smarts..." William's men leaned him up against a wall in the alley, one of the guards opened up a small container at his side and pulled out a small tube. After a series of clicks, it was the same size as Williams shin, the guard set this aside and pulled out some thin clean gauze.
After few moments of medical care, William stood up and visibly winced. He caught Terryn's eye and smiled.
"Good plan, Terryn. Your pay will be in your tent by tomorrow. Keep safe now. I have big plans for you, which will bring you much gold...and power." He winked at him, then turned and left.

Head back to the "Barracks". William will keep his guard up.

"Glad to hear that, Sanguine. Watch yourself, eh?" Terryn replied without looking as he wiped blood from his long sword's blade with a piece of cloth torn from the body of a fallen foe. His employer was hurt, sure, but the entire operation had been a success. It was the least he could do not to collapse with a sigh of relief. They had been outnumbered, and he hadn't seen a situation like that since David had decided the best way to deal with a group of raiders was from the inside. Nevermind the fact that it was Terryn's first time truly taking command for a battle.

Turning, the Hedge Knight Commander slapped Oswald on the shoulder. "C'mon, Ozzie. Let's reconvene with Donald. Drinks're on me tonight."

Chironas had her thin blade out, forming the front of the protective circle drawn around William-prepared for any jackals that might spring on a wounded lion this night...she would rather have supported him as he walked, but in that case, she wouldn't be able to fight...

"Only a scratch, my love. You'll be fine...I saw that guards face too, the one who shot you-looked like a Brighthall man, copper ring in his nose, bung left eye, ratty black hair in a knot. Maybe we'll pay him a visit later, show him some pointers on marksmanship..."

Her joking tone masked her worry. It had been close. Very close. Chironas realized that the bolt landing a few feet to the left, right, higher or lower-and her love would have been crippled for life, or killed outright. He would have died right in front of her, maybe fast, maybe slow...but, that was Williams life-to move ever closer to the edge, narrowing the gap with every escape...she could only hope Williams Luck held out...

Or she could start taking risks of her own.

“I don’t really think that'll be necessary, Love. Seeing as Lizzy already showed him something about it with a damn good shot..."
"Thank you Will. It was mostly luck though, sir." A muffled but obviously female voice from the back replies.
"Still a damn good shot."
Lizzy shrugs, her eyes flicking across the rooftops for anything, while the crossbow is safely loaded and pointed at the ground.

Chironas nodded. She had missed the Guard being hit. A quicker death than he deserved, maybe.

She made a silent note to start taking lessons in archery from Lizzy soon. Her own style was more hastily improvised crack shot-not enough, not enough...

It is now Autumn
As summer comes to an end, the Storm Coast prepares for the coming Winter. Ligoria is recovering, slowly, from the events of the Summer as Polca seems to be amidst the grasp of an Unknown Terrorist - bombing several ships and locations within the city. Despite being heavily known to be owned by smugglers and the like, people are paranoid and concerned about the coming days and what lurks around the corner.

[1] Harvests of all kinds look to be lower than usual. Many staple and minor industrial goods seem to be more expensive than usual (+1 inc) in preparation for the bleak harvest at the end of the season. Everyone fears the coming winter and what a poor harvest will mean to their respective kingdoms, and more importantly - them.

Previous Season (spring 416a), Next Season (doesn't exist yet!)

The Storm Coast is no longer a static place, where the events of the land are defined only by a select few. Rulers have begun to move in response to certain pressures laid on them.

[3] Galamese mercenaries, with apologetic letters and the returning of a full seasons worth of their wages, are departing by ship and land, returning home. They offer no explanation, other than they must regretfully abandon their contracts.

Fiumefurt, is on the move. Long has its city been plagued by a ridiculous influx of immigrants. This has led to a burgeoning crime rate and the hiring of many additional soldiers. Clearly it was in preparation for this: Fiumefurt has begun a methodical annexation of nearby lands, and is rounding up its criminal class as slaves to work their newly annexed land.
Several nations are expressing alarm at this turn of events. Diplomats are riding out to renew and create agreements between city states.

Events that occured in Summer of 416:
  • Tala and Pasha Alanis announce they are engaged, and plan to marry. The wedding celebration is most likely going to be lavish and ornate.
  • General Nike and Kathos Thunderblade lead a successful coup against the "Mad" Queen Laythe, who flees Ligoria by boat. They put themselves up as joint rulers of Ligoria.
  • Good Queen Laythe flees to Galam, where she meets with General Eshir and asks him for help in regaining Ligoria, a nation where her family has ruled for well over a hundred years.
  • William meets with some people and blows up a few smuggler controlled ships and a smuggler controlled drydock.
  • A gutsy bandit lord raids Moun. Most people say he escapes, but some people say he was burned at the stake.
  • A hit-man by the name of Franz appears in Ligoria's- major and only -city, Talama. He is said to have killed three people and a Hatcur, which the guards want to talk to him about...But more importantly he is wanted for questioning about the death of one Mister Sniffycuddles, a very rare toy dog, belonging to a high class merchant.
  • A previously unknown pirate raided the port of Talama and fled with three ducats.
  • Other stuff?

Rumors from Abroad:
A new rumor is being told in taverns across the Storm Coast. Grim faced merchants, coming from the Mirish Coast region, say that Lonemine has declared war on the other powers of that land. Any merchant vessel found trading with the enemies of Lonemine will be destroyed and its crew and Captain burnt on the Iron Ring.
The rumor also has it that Lonemine is paying twice as much as usual for scholars to work as professors and inventors in Lonemine as well as a slew of other benefits.
One thing is for sure, trouble is brewing on the Mirish Coast.

Early Autumn 416a, Storm Coast Trade Guild Headquarters, Vasir

Shinall had been in Vasir for too long without leaving. The drama in the coast of late had caused an increased focus upon the Guild. So much so that the Guild reached out to the remaining nobility for assistance in planning.

Messengers were sent to the various powers involved or immediately threatened. Diplomats went to survey the potential damage and try to prevent anything worse from happening. Merchants had already been returning to Vasir with rumors of civil wars, regime changes and rampant paranoia from east to west.

He was getting tired of playing nice with the other merchants who were content to sit on their collective rotundous asses provided that they managed at the end of a year to be a ducat richer than they had started. Shinall called a mandatory Guild meeting early that fall, something that hadn't been done in years.

No one was pleased at the meeting being called, and there were only a trio of merchants that were not present. One, being a personal friend of his, was on a guild assignment in Lowlands. The others had less reason to be missing, but the last anyone had heard they were in Polca this Summer. Given the state of Polca - their absence wasn't unexpected.

The Guild Hall looked like it should have for a bunch of Masters of Commerce: Bland, organized and obvious that they were not an entity to be ignored. Standing at the central podium, before he could say a word, Shinall was interrupted by a robust elderly man who looked like he spent more money on socks than some nations spent on armies - "What in the name of all that is holy have you summoned us for, Grandmaster?"

The spite and sarcasm in the use of his title would have been apparent to the smallest child, but without skipping a beat he replied simply and directly, "If you had even the faintest instinct of when to shut your pie hole, you'd already know that..." The man simply glared at him and sat back down in his seat, much to the murmur of the assembled Guild. "Fellow Members of the Guild. We've long spent our time trying to emerge from the failures of the past. It has taken a great effort on all our parts, some more than others, but we have emerged from our darkest times to be stronger for it. In response to this, the Storm Coast seems to be poised to lose it's mind recently - Civil Wars, riots and personal wars are raging up and down the coast. What have we against this insanity? A fleet of merchant vessels and the good graces of mercenaries and other swords for hire. While they're more than happy to collect their payments protecting our goods from port to port - none of them would stand to our guard in the face of invasion."

He looked around the room a little to gauge the reaction of the assembly before continuing, "It's no secret that Vasir hasn't had a military force in years. This needs to be rectified and quickly given the state of the region. I've sent messengers to what is left of the Vasiri Nobility and other landowners in raising what will be an entirely defensive guard. We made the provisions when the Guild took control of Vasir that we wouldn't raise an army or remove the nobility. They got to sit fat and relaxed, and in truth - so did we. If things continue down the path they've started...then we may soon need eachother once again. The Landowners have the manpower to raise an army, but they're unable to support one without riots of their vassalage. We can support it easily at very little cost to any of us."

The notion of having to increase their obligations to the Guild didn't sit well with anyone there. "I have ideas in mind for how to do this, but I will refrain from saying anything currently. I have yet to hear anything from the landowners as well as the runners I've sent to get more solid information on the state of the coast. With that, I call this meeting ajourned until the mid-season mark. At which time a choice will need to be made."

He turned and left the Meeting Hall to the sound of disgruntled questions asked to the air. Shinall knew he made no friends this day, but it couldn't be helped. If things in the Coast are going south, then something needs to be done to ensure that Vasir has nothing to fear from anyone outside of Vasir. The biggest threat to Vasir, and largely the Guild, has always been it's own people.

Rectyl's Office:
A messenger wearing a Crimson Guard coat walked into Rectyl's office.
"Hello sir, my lordship would like to know if you have an extra boat to carry another regiment?"


Terryn's Camp:
A chest of gold containing one and one quarter ducats were in the tent that held  meager supplies. The chest also contained a message to Terryn.

Regardless William heads to Ligoria- leaving his all but three of his Crimson Guards in Polca, but hopefully taking Terryn's Knights - using Rectyl's boat. He tries not to be seen as he leaves. The Crimson Guards are to start spreading rumors about him laid up in bed in Polca with Training Injuries.

Ah the smell of Home! Disgusting...

Ortwin Bloodoak stood in the harbor of Ligoria and like when he left it smelled awfully of foul water, sweat and people who hadn't washed sicne years. Ignoring a few beggars in his way he directly went to the palace in hopes of getting an audience immediately. He made sure that all his belongings were still there, his weylandish waraxe, his battered shield of swastamik oak wit the emblem of the Bloodoak's: a red oak on yellow background and of course the letter from his brother's wife.
Ortwin cursed himself for not brining home anything of value after so many years of travel but that goddamn ship captain had cost him the sapphire he was given by the sultan of Dar'cheng to the east of the Dragon Empire. He sighed in memory to the massive feasts that were thrown for him.
Finally he reached the main gates of the palace.

politely request an audience with the current king of Ligoria...

Bjorn, one of the tubby and balding Thornbred, shrugged. Oswald grunted, and mumbled "Seems we'd be better off followin' 'im." "True enough." Terryn replied simply, stepping outside of his tent, "Brothers! Put away the camp. We're on the move."

Terryn follows William's orders, and heads to docks with the Thornbred Knights
