Go to the Queen's palace and meet with her. Bring a scribe along. Once at the throne room, kneel and wait for the queen's reply.
You bring Baroktycl with you to the palace, following the courier back there. Once there the guards let you in, after a brief inspection for weapons. You're guided to the throne room, where upon the throne you see a young, black-haired woman sitting on the throne in some dark looking armour, looking either bored, pissed off or a combination of the two. You and Baroktycl start to kneel, before the queen, before she she says something.

"Stand."

Kathos arrived at the city before noon. The citizens recognized him quite easily. He was a tall, strong man, and behind him rode ten guards, one of them holding his banner (lightning striking a golden sword on a black background) and he was wearing his usual black and golden clothes, with his longsword at his side. He had not been seen in the city for months now, and he was glad to be back at the capital. His manor could be a little... Boring, from time to time.

When he finally arrived in front of the palace gates, he dropped from his horse with ease and walked towards the gate. His guards stayed behind while he started talking.

"I am Kathos Thunderblade, and I would like to meet with the Queen."

Go to the palace, ask to meet the Queen.

'Tala' Wasn't having any of that either. "Outrageous! I am the honored daughter of the Noblewoman Alanis-a long supporter of the throne-and, I'm here on Holiday! I demand an audience with a ranking official to discuss terms of my stay, if I am to be denied hospitality so rudely."

Ask again, to be let in-insist on meeting someone a little more cultured than these swine.

Gain entrance into the palace guest quarters proper-using my new identity, of course...
They let you in, after checking your signet ring and documents, and a couple escort you to the guest quarters

[5] When you do arrive, you find that the room has a nice view overlooking the port and the gardens from the glass window, and the bed and other funiture are of quite decent make, being of imported wood and inlayed with gold and silver. (And generally fit for a high-ranking noble.)

A man walks up to the gate and addresses the guards therein.
"My...my lord William Varaum, wishes for a council with the king, queen, or ruler of this city...err... please don't kill me.."

Spoiler: OOC (click to show/hide)

A strange one, this was. A woman wearing armour in the middle of a palace, the heart of her realm. Prepared for combat if need be and something that displays her power. Strong-willed perhaps...This wasn't going to be easy.

Retcyl stood up and gestured the scribe to do so as well.

"Lady Queen, I, as you can see, am not human but hatcuri. Perhaps you have heard about our race? it matters not. The Emperor wishes to extend friendships with humanity and to that extent he has sent me to ask for your hospitality and if you could allow I and my expedition to serve you. "

Time to see what this queen was made of.

Guard:
"Her highness is currently holding an audience, tell your lord to come afterwards. Or we could send a courier to tell him."

Meanwhile, In the Palace:

[3] "Alright, but I warn you, I see any trace of your betrayal to me, and your scales will be decorating the palace floor as a rug. As for hospitality, I can relegate you to either one of the abandoned manse's in the noble quarter, or or some of the larger Inns, Your choice

Go to the palace, ask to meet the Queen.
The guard notices you and sends you though to the guards outside the throne room. They tell you to wait while the queen finishes her current audience. Your guards get sent to their own barracks for the time being.

"Of course, of course..."
He pauses for a moment.
"My lord's encampment is a longbow's shot away from the city wall...Goodbye...Si-Sir."
He walks off rather quickly and with a limp.

Ha! Locanil had said that the king he had found as a patron had warned him about being killed too. Now...which one to stay in? A manse would be useful, he would need space for his retinue. However, the inn would work as well...Course it was probably less secure. Well you had to take risks sometimes...

"I thank my queen for this. I shall take a large inn. Also, my ships will reinforce your navy if you so wish.  If I may, I take my leave."

If the queen has nothing more for Retcyl  then exit the palace and visit the inn. See the problems with it and move in my guard and retainers into it. Tidy it up and fix up as many problems as possible.

"Very well, You may leave."

The guards shuffle you out while a noble waits for his audience
[1] You kind of figure out why the queen offered the Manse as well. The Inn is an absolute wreck, you see several holes in the walls, a section of the roof that had fallen in and there's filth everywere around it, not to mention the drunkards. It would take a fair bit of money to get it back to something livable/Profitable. ((About one or two Ducats, depending on the roll))

[3] By the time you've managed to clean the place up a bit, it doesn't look half bad. Unfortunatly, it will take more effort into getting into a fixed state. And you don't have anyone that knows enough about architecture or brewing to do so right now. The owner is offering half price on the rooms though, due to your help.

At the gate:
"Of course. Depending on how long these two take, tell your lord to come now anyway."

Back at the palace:
A guard ushers Kathos into the throne room after the Hatcuri are escorted out. "Another noble 'ere to see you Ma'am".

"Lord Kathos, I presume?"

Look for a job my regiment of mercs can do
[3] You find a few jobs protecting the odd caravan, but nothing special or lucrative.

Well, there were worse inns and places to call home. The rent would probably be cheap as well. He would need ducats to get this place operational, and that could take some time.

Retcyl gestured two of his subordinated to him.

"Go and see if there is any brewer in the city wanting to serve a lord. Do make sure that they know the condition of this place. Also, go look for an architect and ask him if he could come here."

Now, what else...He needed a source of income. This inn would work perfectly...but it was too damaged to function. Perhaps he could lease his ships for service? He would not have need of them for now and it was best to keep the crew disciplined. Retcyl got one of his retainers to send a message to the captains and tell them to offer their services to anyone willing to lease the ships.

Now...where was that mechanic? Still on the ship most likely...Well she would find out about the inn when the messenger gets there.

Also, he would need to know more about this city...He would rather explore it himself but he was too busy setting up his base of operations...So he again sent more subordinates to scout out the city and report any anomalies or rumours.

After all was said and done, only his honour guard, the scribe, and a 3 retainers were still in the inn.

Get subordinates to look for a brewer willing to serve a hatcuri. Make it known the condition of the inn. Also look for an architect and bring him back. Send messengers to the ships and tell them to find someone to lease the ships and crews. Make sure the mechanic knows. Send most of the remainder to scout out the city and look for anything interesting in the city. Listen for rumours.

Kathos entered in the throne room and bowed deeply.

"Indeed, your Majesty. I am terribly sorry I could not remain here for your enthronement last year, but I had personnal matters to deal with at my home."

Mainly, the death of his young sister, the last member of his family.

"However, I did not only travel to Talama to offer my apologies - I wanted to be useful. We made sure you could rule without opposition..." By we, he meant the nobles supporting the Queen and himself. "...And now everything is calming down. Now, if I may ask... What are your plans for the future of the kingdom, and can I help you to achieve them?"

Thirty minutes later...
A red caped man in painted red plate mail appears at the gate and walks past the guard.
William hands small gold coins around to everybody he sees as he passes the gatehouse and continues towards the city center. His smile fades to a sneer and then back to a smile as he approaches the gate of the palace.
A bookish man is produced from his small- only three men - retinue and pushed towards the front, in perfect but accented Mirish he asks,
"Can you speak Mirish, my good sir?"
