Too much ore.
« on: September 28, 2011, 12:19:11 am »

I have more ore than I can possibly process and I'm not sure what do do with it.

I have literally everything I may want to have made out of steel already, and I have a lot of ore left according to DFprospect:

44,416 tetrahedrite (+~1500 mined)
27164 galena
21827 native gold (+5 veins mined)
15148 sphalerite
11951 native silver
8815 hematite (+~2400 mined)
8528 magnetite (+~1200 mined
7414 bituminous coal (+~1500 mined)
3318 lignite (+~1300 mined)
2706 limonite (+~1300 mined)

Also, 142k microcline.  Fuck microcline.

Someone think of something insane for me to build with all the potential iron(steel), silver, copper, gold, and lead there.

Or anything else above-ground.  Several magma forges on repeat, and you still won't have enough iron to finish an above-ground megaproject.  Those things CONSUME resources.

Mine out all the layers, process the stone into bricks, the ores into metal bars, and then rebuild the layers just as they were with veins in their respective places, but out of bricks and bars.

Just think of the fortress value!

I don't mean to alarm you, but it appears that your Dwarves are all in fact elephants.

Legendary +5 Furnace Operator.

Several of them by the time I'm done.

your tower would take, based off the design I'd use and some basic math, 16,104 bars +/- 200, so I'd be able to build it of iron but not steel.

Take the first born dwarven child, and burrow him in the furnaces.  This is his life, he is never to leave the heat and the rocks.  160 solid years of constant smelting.  No friends, just ore dropped down a garbage chute and a blind hauler that comes in to take out the laden bar bins.

I have a hall with 10 magma furnaces and 8 magma forges.

They still can't keep up with my 5 legendary miners (in fact, neither can the haulers) and I'm training a 6th miner on Bauxite right now (the map has no soil).

It's absolutely Dwarven.

You clearly don't have enough migrants.

I have 200 dwarves, but a lot of them are military because I'm at war with 4 civs right now.

Blind hauler?

Break out the optometry!

I"m playing the world's smallest adamantine violin, and it's playing "My Heart Bleed For You." I can't get any useful ore; just gold, gold forever. Or lead-producing nonsense.

Noe that that's over with, build a giant facsimile of a forge:
gigantic steel anvil (bonus points if you forge the steel anvils, then melt them down for their bars)
Lead floor
Iron Walls and ceiling
Giant hammer "sitting" on the anvil, with a head made of silver (similar bonus points to the one described above) and the handle made of copper.

Atom smash every. single. piece. of microcline. If you've made any buildings out of it, demolish those buildings, and atom smash those pieces of microcline, as well as anything that was made in those buildings. If any artifact has a piece of microcline on it, arrange a collapse on it. Channel out all microcline floors.

Sometimes, I think I'm the only person who likes to build out of microline. Nothing says 'cower' to goblins like a gigantic neon fortress. It's like vegas fortress.

Do this, make lots of tables and chairs, and mint lots of gold/silver/copper coins as poker chips. Bonus points if you manage to make some forms of slot machines. Mega-Dwarf Bonus Points if your dwarves actually play the machines and use those nice masterwork stone tables and thrones to play poker.

But yeah, if you're at war with more than the elves and the goblins, use the iron/steel for armor/edge weapons, the silver for blunt weapons, the copper for shields/more blunt weapons (or make bronze for more armor/edge weapons if you find any tin), the lead into bins--which makes looting your fort in adventure mode a whole lot easier--, and the gold into crafts to sell for things like more iron/steel/silver/copper/fuel.
