That would definitely not be a good solution for people in dorm rooms, or multiple people using a wi-fi spot or something.

Likewise, I'm turning against my own suggestion for moderator approval of the first posts from a new account.  Whatever the spambot problem, as far as I can tell, most new accounts are real people coming with gameplay questions or comments.  Moderator approval would mean either Tarn/Zach checking the forum every hour for new posts (not a solution), more moderators (has its objections), or new accounts having to wait up a day or more to get their first question answered (which is definitely bad).

So yeah, I'm stumped.
I have an idea: Allow appointed editors from the forum to check to see if first posts are legitimate. Toady and 3toe can be removed from the equation altogether.

Toady and ThreeToe have always done all the moderation themselves, except in specific cases like subforums. It's their thing.
Yeah, but they could just be trusted community members who just see if posts are legit. They wouldn't be able to do anything else otherwise.

Think about it. Would there be anybody here who'd you entrust this kinda power? Answering "Yes, me" doesn't count.

Yeah, they wouldn't have any other moderating privileges, just the job of approving the new users. It's barely even considered "power," it's more like a job.

Maybe I've been oblivious but I haven't noticed any significant drama on bay12. I don't see any of the prominent members going mad with power and banning everyone.

They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

That actually COULD work. But it would be a tough job. And if you didn't like someone's first posts you could just deny them.

I'd trust Duke 2.0 and Footkerchief. Duke has moderating experience on another (larger) forum, and Footkerchief is Footkerchief.

Corruption like that is very improbable, and the job could be made easier with a lot of editors.

Off the top of my head:

Aquizzar, Jim Groovester, Vector, Janet, Pandarsenic, Toonyman, Kael, Barbrossa, Aklyon and Duke 2.0 just to name a few. Any of the old creed would do fine.

Vector would be my choice, I mean she can tell when ANYONE is lying. I mean have you ever played Mafia with her?

Hey guys. Why don't we let Toady voice his opinion on the suggestions before we go around nominating moderators/editors/approvers/what have you? I mean, it's all well and good, but it'd be kind of pointless if Toady decides to go with another system. :\

True, true.

Also they'd actually have to AGREE before becoming an editor too.

No, we should force them. They are editors untill they DIE.

In the meantime, I'm calling 50/50 on weather or not he decides that there's need for a change at all.

That's like saying there's a 50% chance of rain, or saying "it might rain".
